About Carmelo Montanaro
We are an artisan company specializing in the recovery and restoration of stone structures located in the beautiful scenery of the “Valle d'Itria”.From generation to generation, we have been working for over 40 years to give back value and life to the buildings more typical of the “Puglia” countryside which are “ trulli”, “lamie”,” casedde” and “masserie” using the techniques that the old "masters" have handed down to us. Our many years of experience in this field have enabled us to become a point of reference for those who are fascinated by the charm of these masterpieces of stone and share our desire to bring its structure to its ancient splendours of a time.We support our customers in every step of the restoration of these structures with respect of the past, in an attempt to recreate a functionality of the spaces, always with rigorous attention to detail with particular attention to the aesthetics. We constantly focus to search for new ideas to bring the beauty of the past to the present.Every project is unique, with attention to our customers needs. We work together to create beautiful buildings which reflect your passion and emotions with our expertise, to transform them into a mix of contemporary, innovative and elegant homes, while respecting the historical memory of a profession that has never waned in the beautiful area of ”Murgia dei Trulli”.

For us a proper Italian home from home
We had a superb week this summer at Trullo Karma
We was met by Carmelo in Martina Franca promptly and on arrival at the Trulli we found fresh fruit, biscuits, white wine & water waiting for us.
The Trulli was perfect for two with a large double room and a small single room. The kitchen is was perfect size for us, and all the appliances (hair dryer washing etc.) worked fine. The bathroom was a good size with fresh towels and with a very comfortable seating area to relax in the late evening. The Trulli also has a fast Wi-Fi and good air condition.
We could enjoy our breakfast at a table in front of the Trulli and then enjoy our evening meals at a large stone table under the side arbour as the sun sets.
The pool was clean, excellent size with comfortable sun loungers, just the thing to run into when the temperature was at its height!
The Trulli is on the side of a valley with a great view particularly when the sun was setting.
The locals did own dogs but to be honest this didn’t bother us in the least.
The Trulli is not far from the beautiful Martina Franca with its fantastic Churches and the local supermarket isn’t far and is very good.
This was our first visit to this area of Italy following the footsteps of my Grandfather who had been in this area in the 1940s it was everything I hoped
I would like to particularly thank Carmelo who was great and kept in touch making sure our stay was so pleasant for us, a proper Italian home from home!
Perfect location for a relaxing holiday
Trulli Karma is in an ideal location, just off the beaten track.
The area is very quiet, perfect for a relaxing stay. The trulli has everything you need for self catering and the quality of the property makes it very special.
It's well placed for exploring the area and nearest town of Martina Franca which comes to life in the evenings and where there are lots of restaurants and a lovely old centre.
Thank you very much for your review.
It was a pleasure to have a guest like you!
Really lovely traditional property
The property was lovely and the pool earlier was great. The closeness to the lovely town of Martina Franca was a real bonus and Carmelo could not have been more helpful
thank you very much!!! see you next time :)
Greetings from Puglia!
Great place to stay with very friendly hosts
We had a wonderful spring week in this Trulli!
The welcome from the host Carmelo is hardly better. I found it very attentive that Carmelo had already deposited water and milk in the refrigerator and a well-filled fruit basket beside self-baked pastries stood on the table.
The landlord was always available for advice and action.
The Trulli is perfect for three people with a large double room and a small single room.
The accommodation was very clean and comfortable.
Also in the bathroom everything was great. Even a fairly fast WiFi is available.
The kitchen is small, but it is everything you need and everything works.
Our sunny breakfast we usually took at a smaller stone table in front of the house. The large stone table under the side pergola is great when the sun gets too hot.
The pool was very clean and refreshing and is hardly visible from the outside.
The Trulli is very quiet on a hill with a beautiful view on flowering meadows. Nevertheless you are quite fast in Martina Franca.
As a starting point for excursions the location is very good. We were in Matera, Castel del Monte, Locorotondo, Alberobello, Egnazia, Polignano a Mare .....
I would like to expressly thank our landlord Carmelo. We had the feeling from the first moment to be welcome.
What a fantastic review! love you so much!
The Valle d'Itria Trulli, gently rolling countryside, olive oil, white wine, capocollo ham, easy access to the beaches of the Adriatic and the Ionian seas and half a dozen really super, picuresque towns, including Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Cisternino, Ostuni, Ceglie Messapica and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Alberobello... Welcome to the Valle d'Itria, one of Puglia's most popular and attractive areas! Set on a high fertile plain in the centre of Puglia, the Valle d'Itria stretches from Putignano in the north to Ostuni in the south, its wooded slopes, vineyards and endless olive groves punctuated by the coned roofs of trulli, those unique cylindrical constructions that are peculiar to the area. The valley in Valle d'Itria's name is not a a typical valley but rather a Karstic depression that runs between Locorotondo, Cisternino and Martina Franca. This geological phenomenon has also created the fascinatingly beautiful caves of Castellana Grotta, which run for about 3km under the north-eastern edge of the Valle d'Itria. The caves of Castellana Grotta offer an excellent, educational and fun day trip with children and there are many more diverting activities for children in the area, including the zoo safari and amusement park at Fasano and the magical old town centre of Alberobello, a trulli wonderland that charms and delights old and young alike. Thanks to Puglia's long slender shape, even if you are in the centre of the Valle d'Itria you are never far from the sea... or should we say seas! An easy drive in either direction - your choice... east or west - will take you to the Adriatic or the Ionian sea, where you can enjoy the long sandy beaches and turquoise waters that contribute to Puglia's great popularity as a holiday destination. Food lovers too will not be left wanting! Each town in the Valle d'Itria seems to have its own speciality, whether it is the capocollo ham of Martina Franca, the meat bombette of Cisternino (barbecued directly by the butcher for you) or the DOC white wine of Locorotondo. Of course the olive oil is supreme and the cheeses, including the milky delights of burratina, are memorable! It seems obvious, then, that the Valle d'Itria offers a full and various range of holiday activities for all the family. So why not make it your next destination? Of course, you'll need some fabulous accommodation... and that's what we're here for!
