About Mark Livesey

Living in Kent and working in London, we bought Meadowview to escape the hustle and bustle and spend time together. So peaceful and relaxing, yet bike rides and walks, as well as top class restaurants, all within 5 minutes from the front door.

Mark Livesey purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Mark Livesey chose Long Melford

The pretty flint cottage met all our requirements, close enough to beautiful restaurants and shops, but without the need to have to spend the weekend driving to get to them. Sat in the rear garden, you have uninterrupted views of Constable's famous water meadows and wildlife.

What makes this cottage unique

Everything is so close at hand, yet the garden transports you to the heart of the countryside.

Lovely Little Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little cottage, very clean, comfortable and the perfect position for all that Long Melford has to offer.

A bottle of Bucks Fizz and Shortbread on arrival, what a lovely touch. Nice local walks, antique stores, cafes, pubs, restaurants and take away. National Trust House to go and visit, along with the Church and Kentwell Hall.

Wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

Lovely character cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is in an ideal location for exploring Long Melford and the surrounding area. It has all the amenities you need and is very homely. We had a great few days cycling out to Lavenham and other picturesque villages. As stated in the information pack the bathroom is due for an update which I totally agree with and is the only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars.

Mark was very helpful and answered any questions quickly.

We would stay here again without a doubt.

Great place, felt very at home and great location

  • 4 of 5

Lovely cottage, very well maintained. Very homely. Icing on the cake would have been a hairdryer in the bedroom. Surprised there wasn't one in the place. Overall super place.

A great location for exploring a lovely area

  • 4 of 5

We really appreciated the central location of the property. Long Melford is an interesting place to explore and has lots of good eating places. We particularly enjoyed the Indian restaurant and enjoyed visiting nearby Lavenham, Melford Hall and the parish church. We weren't always able to park outside the cottage but always found a parking place nearby. The neighbours were friendly and helpful. The cottage is well equipped and the beds were comfortable - always important for a good holiday. We appreciated the thoughtful gifts of Bucks Fizz and shortbread. Communications with the owner were helpful and prompt. Access to the cottage was straightforward. Thank you.

Superb cottage, home from home!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage which had everything we needed and more.... including Bucks Fizz and a great coffee machine!

Gorgeous area; we very much enjoyed walking through Long Melford and enjoying the local pub grub!

Parking on the street was never an issue, always a space there.

Mark, thank you for providing a great base for our weekend away!

Long Melford set in the stunning Stour Valley (immortalised by John Constable) boasts the longest tree-lined village street in the country. The village dates from the Tudor times and many of the fine buildings which were built during this time still remain, though today housing restaurants, art galleries, fashion boutiques and pubs. By the large village green sits the grade I listed Holy Trinity Church, with its Cathedral proportions it is regarded amongst England's finest churches. The magnificent Melford Hall also sits in the village, once frequented by Beatrix Potter, it is open to the public and still has her original Jemima Puddleduck toy. The fine Kentwell Hall sits on the edge of the village and is a must if you are a fan of Tudor re-enactments.

Long Melford is the perfect base for exploring the lovely Suffolk countryside, with many country walks setting out from the village and the South Suffolk Cycle Route is only yards from Meadowview's front door.
