We are a family of nine, with seven children age 18 and under.
Ryan or Barbara purchased this house in 2007
While on a weekend ski trip over President’s Day 2004, we fell in love with Massanutten Resort and purchased our first second home, The Retreat at Massanutten. We have now vacationed at Massanutten for more than ten years and used the home for many years to get away from the hustle and bustle of Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, for winter skiing and summer outdoor fun. We now live in Idaho but still vacation often at Massanutten Resort as it remains one of the family's favorite vacation spots. No other resort near Washington, DC offers as wide a variety of activities as Massanutten, and at such a great value for the family to get away together. Since 2004, we have added two additional Massanutten homes to our inventory, including The View at Massanutten, and rented to more than 630 families. We hope you will enjoy The View at Massanutten as much as our other guests have.
The View at Massanutten is one of the best homes that we own at Massanutten Resort. Aptly named, The View provides some of the best views of the ski hills on the mountain. The View is the perfect home to accommodate family gatherings, both large and small. As with our other homes, The View is exceptionally well appointed and because of its new construction, is in pristine condition. The View is stocked with activities, such as foosball, movies, an arcade game, kids toys, and books. The View is also uniquely situated at the top of the mountain, right in the middle of all of the activities. It backs up to the George Washington National Forest and is perfect for enjoying your getaway vacation.
The exterior pictures do not do this home much justice. It is simply gorgeous and it was too much house for us. We take a family trip together every year and vowed not to repeat any sites. My family seems perfectly willing to break that vow. LOL.
We had a good time at this home. It was big. And it had great views. We hope to return again.
After much discussion, we have decided to leave an honest review of this rental house. Unfortunately, the owner has communicated to us that he will not be refunding our security deposit because of our review and he threatened to sue us as well. Despite these threats, we felt that it was important that others are aware our experience. When we arrived at the house, we were surprised to learn that the "6th bedroom" in the house is actually a sliding door that divides one of the rooms into two areas. On one side of the divider are two sets of bunk beds with a king set on the other side. Because we had multiple couples and children, this created some challenges with our room planning.Plus, the doors were broken, so the divided room concept didn’t work. We just want others to know for their planning purposes.
Some of the previous reviews note various cleanliness issues, and we found that this was true for us. The place was dirty when we arrived. On the first night, we saw a mouse run across the kitchen floor and noticed mouse droppings (small black mouse pellets) in many places throughout the house, including bedroom, kitchen and living room floors, in and on the sofa, and in bathrooms. Additionally, some mouse droppings were found on cooking utensils, dishware, pots, and pans. We would leave during the day and come back to new mouse pellets on the kitchen counter and kitchen table. We have young kids and planned to have most meals in the house so this was troubling. We also found that towels were limited, and the ones available did not appear to be clean, as they smelled like they had not been washed. The place did not appear to have been maintained, including the patio furniture which was in disrepair. There were multiple light bulbs out, and some of the cookware was not usable because of its condition (broken or damaged). We found holes in walls as well.
We attempted to communicate these problems to the owner after the weekend. He offered to pay us $250 to avoid leaving a review, which we thoughtfully declined. We felt that it was important to communicate our experience, despite his offer. When we communicated this to him, he became irate and threatened to sue us for slander. We are a thoughtful, professional, and responsible group, and felt that it was important not to be intimidated by this owner. We will return next year to the area, but not this rental
None of the issues that Christina referred to have been fixed. The furniture is still broken and dirty...the floors were sticky with dirt. Many towels and bed sheets had NOT been cleaned from previous renters. The house has plenty of room....but the house keeping issues continued to be a nightmare. The house itself needs major maintenance.
Great open floor plan. Plenty of room for a large group. However, many upkeep issues. Couch and bar stool were broken and dirty. Bunk Bed was missing a corner peg and a ladder, and was unstable. Pocket doors to kids bedroom were non-functional. BBQ grill was small and had a bent grate. Refrigerator had broken shelves. Dishwasher had a broken top rack. There were broken mini-blinds. Multiple drywall holes in several rooms. Loose railing post on top balcony. Loose wooden step off the back deck. Many light bulbs out or non-functional. Shower curtain was dirty. Carpets were dirty. Microwave was dirty. We were expecting the conditions to be a little nicer for the amount we paid.
We loved all of the activities at the resort for the kids, including the indoor waterpark which really was a lot of fun. The weather was great and we were able to do some easy hikes just along the ridge. And we fished in the pond just a couple houses down from this home. We enjoyed the home. It was a great base to enjoy all that the resort and the area had to offer. We had no problems at all, easy checkin and checkout. Three days was not long enough, so we hope to come back again.
This is a great home. The views are worth the stay. It really takes advantage of the mountain views and makes for a great getaway. There is plenty of space. We liked having three king beds which provided more comfort for each couple. It is a gem.
The Massanutten Water Park is a very impressive, 4 acre water park, with about 42,000 sq. ft. of indoor water park area in Phase One open year round, and 88,000 sq. ft. of outdoor water park area open in the summertime. There are numerous slides inside the park, along with a lazy river and many other water activities. The outside area has a racing slide, a wave pool and several other water amenities. The complex also houses a food court, lockers and showers, a 'state of the art' video arcade, and a full service restaurant. The park is the finest such facility on the East Coast, at a cost of over $30 million dollars. The View is stocked with a full line of brochures providing information on numerous additional area activities, including snow tubing and canoing
