Monte San Savino Villa Rental Photos and Description

Private Villa, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths + Attached 2 bedroom, 1 Bath Guesthouse

SEE OUR WEBSITE for lots more photos and more description (link below).

Surrounded by fields of sunflowers and wheat in the rolling hills of the unspoiled Val di Chiana, this lovely Tuscan country villa is located between two charming hilltop villages filled with great restaurants, wines, and exceptional shopping - as well as art, history, and beautiful views.

Podere Dadino is a two-story, stone and brick house, typical of the area. It has been carefully restored, retaining the original elements of brick arches, beamed ceilings, and some interior walls of exposed stone and brick. The spacious and comfortable, main house totals approximately 3500 square feet.

You enter through a covered portico (porch, with outdoor table for ten). Inside, three large arches divide the eat-in kitchen (with antique farmhouse table), the dining room with a table for twelve or more, and the sunny living room with large open fireplace and high-end (but comfortable) sofas and armchairs. On the other side of the kitchen are a bathroom with shower; a study with large antique wooden table/desk and a daybed; a TV room with access to the garden and pool area; and a laundry room with plenty of storage space.

A stone staircase leads upstairs to the high-ceilinged, airy, sitting room; four bedrooms (two bedrooms, each with a king-size bed, and two bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed); two baths (one with shower, and one very large bathroom with shower and separate jacuzzi tub); and a large walk-in closet.

The house has plenty of space to be 'together' as a family or group of friends - whether at the pool, playing bocce, cooking delicious meals and enjoying them indoors or out, or chatting in the living room. The layout also allows for private spaces when you want some time alone - whether working (or dozing) in the study, having a quiet read in the upstairs sitting room, or finding a peaceful spot under the trees.

The attached guesthouse, approximately 430 square feet, has a separate entrance, two bedrooms (each with a queen-size bed), a small bath with shower, and a kitchen-sitting room.

The appliances are new. The kitchens are fully equipped and suitable for gourmet cooking. All mattresses, couches, and armchairs are new, comfortable, and of high quality. The bathrooms have modern fixtures. All windows and doors have mosquito screens. Otherwise, the house has been decorated and furnished in traditional Tuscan country-style, with characteristic colors, fabrics, and carefully chosen antique pieces for an authentic and comfortable Tuscan experience.

Although easily accessible and not remote (it is five kilometers from the A1 motorway exit), no other houses are visible from the house or grounds. A 400-meter (approximately 4000 feet long) private, gravel road leads to the house, so the house is well back from the road behind a large field. The house sits on more than 1.75 acres of well-manicured private garden and lawns, offering several areas for dining al fresco, entertaining, or relaxing with a book and a glass of wine.

The grounds have been professionally landscaped with lawns, roses, lavender, flowers and shrubs of all sorts, pots of oleander and aromatic flowers set around mature fruit trees (plums, apricots, pears, apples, nuts, and figs), cypress, and shade trees. The garden includes a productive 50 square meter organic vegetable and herb garden with lettuces, heirloom tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and more.

The covered front portico, with table and chairs for 10, is a favorite place for breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening - watching the morning light or the sunset with the hills in the distance.

A wisteria-covered loggia, with traditional outdoor pizza oven, dining table and chairs, is located on the side of the house near the pool, together with a large BBQ for outdoor cooking. The loggia is a perfect, shady spot for lunch! And making your own pizzas is a lot of fun.

The 6 by 12 meter (approximately 18 feet by 36 feet) swimming pool, with outdoor shower, gets full sun throughout the day. A stand of trees makes a shady spot at one end of the pool, next to the full size bocce ball court - for your evening bocce games. At the other end of the pool, a rustic, wisteria-covered pergola offers another space for outdoor dining or dozing.

The house is great for a group of friends to relax and catch up; for hosting an extended family or two; for celebrating a milestone birthday, a special anniversary, or a family event; or just as a place to experience Tuscany at its best.

The property is perfectly located for exploring southern Tuscany and Umbria, either by main road or country roads. The house is just over the 'border' dividing the provinces of Arezzo and Siena, giving you the two prettiest valleys in Tuscany - the Val di Chiana and the Val d’Orcia (a UNESCO world heritage site). Charming towns, history, art, beautiful scenery, great restaurants, wine, and artisan foods are found in every direction.

Siena is 35 kilometers away, Arezzo 20 kilometers, Cortona 15 kilometers. Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza, the Colli Aretini and Colli Senesi wine roads (and wineries), the hot water mineral spas south of Siena, Etruscan archaeological sites, and many other places of interest, including events, festivals, local markets, and the designer outlets are easily reached for day trips. We provide a detailed House Book that offers suggestions and advice on restaurants, shopping, places to visit, things to do, and much more.

Please email with any questions, and check our website. We love the house and the area - and hope you will too.

About victoria belco

We (the owners) live in the USA, and rented houses in Tuscany for 25 years before finding, buying, and furnishing Podere Dadino. In our years of renting other houses, we had many good experiences as well as some that were disappointing, so we knew what we wanted and what makes for a satisfying stay in the Tuscan countryside. We have furnished and decorated the house with care - and always keep it perfectly maintained. Our goal is that you feel at home when you come through the door, and that everything is in place to make your stay both relaxing and memorable. It is our vacation home too - and we are very demanding!

When we are here, we alternate between days of sightseeing and relaxation, swimming and playing bocce, with visits to our favorite restaurants and checking out recommendations of new ones. We cook too, grilling meats from the famous butchers in nearby Monte San Savino and using the freshest vegetables and fruits in season. The traditional pizza oven is a big 'plus.'

We get lots of 'fun' reading done and spend lots of time by the pool. When we had the pool put in and the grounds landscaped, we knew we had to have a bocce court, as we have such warm memories of bocce tournaments with our children and friends in houses we rented in years past. In all, a stay here is the perfect antidote to the rest of the working year.

Our informative House Book describes local restaurants, shopping, events, and places to visit in this beautiful part of Italy. The house itself is stocked with cookbooks, guidebooks, novels and mysteries, dvds and books for all ages.

Why victoria belco chose Arezzo

The location is ideal: the house and grounds offer privacy, peace and quiet, yet easy distance to the most charming and lovely Tuscan towns and sights. This is truly classic Tuscan 'postcard' country: hills and valleys; centuries old cypress trees; winding roads between fields of sunflowers, wheat, olives, and grapevines, leading to medieval and Renaissance villages and spectacular views. It is unspoiled and not flooded with tourists - it is still a place where Italians live and work the land.

It is also the perfect place for developing an idyllic routine of breakfast in the garden, then a drive to explore a nearby town of interest, see the historic and artistic sights and do a bit of shopping, ending just in time to enjoy a leisurely lunch at a terrific trattoria or more elaborate restaurant. Come home for a late afternoon swim, doze by the pool or in the shade, read the book you have wanted to get to, or practice your bocce ball game. Then, over a glass of local wine and some handcrafted cheeses, think about whether to cook dinner with the produce from the garden and what you purchased at the market, maybe make your own pizzas in the outdoor oven, grill some steaks, or to go out for another memorable meal. After dinner, relax some more, maybe with your book, a game of cards, or watching a dvd - or the fireflies - as you sip vin santo and plan your next day.

There is always somewhere new to find and explore: last summer we checked out Umbria and Lake Trasimeno. Our guests are always making great recommendations from their stays - guest have gone fishing, hiking, truffle hunting, biking, horseback riding, to the spas, the outlets, archaeology sites, and discovered restaurants and festivals.

What makes this villa unique

We have a lifelong local man (1 kilometer away) who takes excellent care of the garden and grounds and is available for any repairs or problems. A very efficient young woman oversees the house cleaning and can also provide delicious Tuscan home cooking for your family or group. Guests have raved about her cooking! The swimming pool is professionally cleaned and serviced every week. And finally, our friendly and bilingual (English-Italian) property manager in nearby Florence will make sure all is well.

We answer questions promptly via email - or telephone, Skype, or Face-time if you would like to talk. We are attentive to any questions, needs, or concerns. We hope that you will love the area and the house as much as we do.

If you want to experience Tuscany and Tuscan food at its best, this is the spot - whether you want to cook at home or try a different restaurant every day. Our garden provides the herbs and vegetables (in season). Our kitchen has modern appliances, granite and stone counters, a big country table, and a comfortable rustic feel. The dining room table extends to seat 12. Outdoors, there are both a built in brick and stone grill (for grilling Tuscany's famous meats) and a traditional, stone oven for making your own pizzas, plus plenty of space for outdoor dining.

Podere Dadino - A vacation to remember.

  • 5 of 5

We rented Podere Dadino which is located between Monte San Savino and Lucignano in Tuscany.  In the words of our children and grandchildren, “it was the best family vacation ever!”   The home and the grounds exceeded all our expectations.

The house is located in sunflower, grape and corn fields about 15 minutes from each of the two nearest towns.  The grounds/house incorporates a very large pool, a 6 bedrooms/4 full baths, a full vegetable garden, bocce court, outdoor brick grill with dry wood and a pizza oven.

The rooms in the house are all large.  The kitchen is large and very well equipped with the best dinnerware and extensive cooking utensils.  It has a good oven and cook top but no garbage disposal.  There was a place for organic garbage on the grounds.  The recyclable trash is deposited in large containers along the roads.  The bathrooms are very well equipped including a complete first aid kit in each.

The care and management of the house and grounds are in the hands of Lolita, who met us when we arrived and briefed us on the house and grounds and also offered an optional service along with her mother to cook meals, etc.  We also had the occasion to call her when one of our cars had a flat tire at the house.  She brought a mechanic to the house and he took care of the tire.

The care of the pool and grounds was handled by Piero, a fine Italian gentleman, who was at the house every 3 or 4 days.  He cared for the vegetable garden which provided us with tomatoes (regular and plum), cucumbers, zucchini, onions and basil throughout our stay.  We arrived at the tail end of the plum season from the tree on the grounds.  We had 3 days of fresh plums.  Piero kept the pool absolutely spotless and skimmed.

Paola came to the house each Friday to change the bed linens and bath towels.  The quality of the linens and towels was first class.  There is a washing machine but no dryer, but plenty of facility for hanging clothes on the racks outdoors.

One of our initial concerns when we were considering renting the house was that it is not air conditioned. This was not a problem.

The house also offers two TV sets, with satellite coverage (primarily foreign) and WiFi in several of the rooms.  The library of DVDs is extensive as is the reading library.

To repeat the words of our children, “it was the best vacation ever!”, certainly aided by the many  comforts afforded by this very special house in this very special area.

I honestly could not fault this villa, it was perfect for our family - grandparents, parents and 3 young children. The house is beautiful and the gardens even more so with lots of lovely shady areas to sit, an amazing pool, a garden with fresh vegetables and of course the pizza oven!

I could not recommend this property enough. We most definitely hope to return.

Loved by the whole family

  • 5 of 5

Our party was 3 generations and included a baby and 2 nearly 3yr olds. The villa catered for and was loved by all. We used the main house and annex which meant that there was ample space for 3 families to spread and be comfortable, as well as find peace if needed. All the "admin" surrounding our stay was faultless and added to the sense of relaxation while on our holiday. The owner is happy to answer queries both before and after booking, the deposit and payment process was well managed ( with very speedy deposit return after our holiday ), the villa has a great "support" staff to ensure garden, pool, etc all run smoothly and a detailed "House Book" provides all the information you could want to give you a trouble free stay. In fact we kept a copy open on the kitchen table to answer all those little " how do you ...." queries as they arose. What none of this can prepare you for is the sheer "WOW" factor when you arrive. The gardens, the pool, the house and all the equipment were way in excess of our expectations - and we had had pretty high expectations to begin with !

The house is equipped with the quality and care that you would expect from a home and that is the feel of the place - your home , not a rental. From the thick bathroom towels, to the fantastically equipped kitchen, to the well stocked TV room and library - everything is there to cosset you and make you feel welcome. A huge plus for us was the provision of quality baby equipment - cot, high chair and booster seats, and a selection of pool toys to keep all ages happy. The other huge bonus was the insect screens on all doors and windows. this was especially welcome in the bedrooms where it was possible to have a completely bug free sleeping environment, meaning we did not have to cover the children in insect repellent over night

The pool itself is magnificent - large, with gentle steps down into it and a cover that keeps the heat in, so that the water was always warm and inviting, and the surrounding area is beautifully laid out with shower, sun loungers and a shaded loggia area. Rest of the garden was beautifully maintained and a productive vegetable garden fought against some very hostile weather conditions during our stay.

A special mention to Lolita, who was able to be flexible with arrival and departure times and with her mother provided us with a variety of catering options all of which were fabulous. An amazing holiday in outstanding accommodation, highly recommended. We must return.

Tuscany at it's finest

  • 5 of 5

A family group of 10 people stayed in the villa for a period of nearly 2 weeks. We are 6 adults and 4 children ages 5 to 11. The house, overall setting and overall surrounding areas could not be more ‘Tuscan’ than if you created the perfect place in your own mind. The entire stay was full of accolades by each guest (including the children)

The house itself is perfect. We occupied both the main house as well as the attached guest house. And everyone had lots of room and we all were comfortable. Upon arriving, this picturesque villa has Tuscany and Italy written all over it and it provides a most welcoming charm. The house furnishings provided all the comforts of home (utensils, appliances, furnishings, books, magazines, and overall charm). There are several TVs available, but they were not used at all (even by the children); the WI-FI worked fine and all appliances were put to good use (washer, dish washer, ironing board, etc.). The surrounding grounds are marvelous. In the immediate area is a vegetable garden as well as fruit trees and in the adjoining fields are grape vineyards and rolling hills. While we were there, the garden was producing a nice crop of tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers- which we enjoyed thoroughly. The swimming pool is an excellent size and was a welcome sight for everyone after a day of touring neighboring villages and towns. Everyone made great use of the pool and it kept the children excited for the entire stay.

We found the neighboring town of Lucignano one of the most charming Tuscan villages we have ever visited. It is small, has some history, shops are excellent and the restaurants are superb. We ate in 4 of the restaurants in the town and each was superb. The comments provided by the owner in the ‘house book’ were right on as to recommendations of each of the restaurants. The restaurant L’Oste Matto was one of the finest restaurants I have ever visited (inventive dishes, terrific selections, each menu item had the personal touch of the owner, outstanding service). Additionally the restaurants Il Goccino and La Rocco were also excellent (we ate in each twice).

Terrific day-trips are easy from this central location. We took trips to Cortona (25 minutes), Florence ( I hour train from Arezzo) (twice), Siena (45 minutes), Assisi (70 minutes), Pienza (40 minutes- and a real find), Castello Brolio, Montepulciano (40 minutes), and several other towns.

An Adventure in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Podere Dadino was a wonderful Villa nestled in the heart of Tuscany. An ideal location for sightseeing, and a comfortable relaxing enviornment after a busy day of touring. The home meets all your needs and has beautiful grounds, views you will never forget and a wonderful place for a family to vacation and see the world. We had a hard time leaving. Seina, Florence , Pisa, Luca were just a few cities that were easy day trips. This was the best family vacation ever and we were blessed to be able to be together and experience the adventure. We made memories, that can never be replaced. I hope to return to Podere Dadino some day.

Heavenly Home in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Podere Dadino is a piece of Heaven in the magnificent Tuscan countryside. It is an extremely peaceful and private residence surrounded by nature. My favorite part of the day was early in the morning while I drank coffee outside under the covered patio and listened to the songbirds. The house is very comfortable with lovely views from each room of surrounding property. We all enjoyed the comfort of the beds, sofas, and dining areas inside and outside the home. My children (13 and 15 years old) both enjoyed the swimming pool in afternoons after our daily outings. We took pleasure in spending hours inside and outside the home relaxing and spending time together as a family.

We arranged for Lolita to make pizza for us using the wood burning pizza oven on the premises. It was delicious! She also prepared a Tuscan dinner for us another evening. My children especially enjoyed the desserts that she made on both occasions for us. We had ample left overs for the next day. She is an excellent cook and were grateful for the high quality meals she made for us.

We appreciated the location of the home and the proximity of many medieval towns to explore. We enjoyed the town of Lucignano (which is about a 5 minute drive from house). The locals are very pleasant and friendly. We shopped at the grocery store, bakery, ate at family and fine Italian restaurants, and enjoyed tasteful gelato. I was touched by a local volunteer at the church in Lucignano. He spent about 15 minutes with our family and gave us a private tour as he explained to us through gestures and phrases (since he spoke Italian and we speak English) of the treasures in the church. He was very patient and kind and genuinely so happy to share his church with us.

Besides Lucignano, two other beautiful and fascinating medieval cities we visited were Cortona and Montepulciano. We also went to Florence by train. We drove to Arezzo station and took the train into the city. It was a great adventure for our children. There are more surrounding areas to explore and great suggestions in the House Book and Basket of maps and brochures left in sitting room. We only stayed one week, but could have easily stayed longer with more to explore and discover.

I hope one day we can return to this beautiful home in the Tuscan countryside. We most definitely recommend it to those who want to experience the Best of Italy!
