About the property

Townhouse, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

From the moment you walk through the front door of our Edwardian townhouse, we want you to feel welcome. Our townhouse is spacious, light and lovingly cared for. We provide high speed wireless internet, free long distance phone calls to North America, Australia and most of Europe and oyster cards (travel cards) which you can top up across the street and use on all tubes and buses. We take care of you before you arrive with our own guide to the area, including nearby stores and restaurants, a little local history and some of our favorite haunts. We also mail you directions and descriptions of our favorite London walks and a street map of London, which includes bus routes and tube stops. If you need any advice about your stay just email or call Fatijah (presently in California but still a Londoner at heart). If anything crops up during your stay, text our wonderful property manager, who is there to help.

Maida Vale, one of Central London's upscale neighborhoods, is a sought after area for Londoners, because while you can easily get anywhere in central London, it is also quiet and friendly, without the pollution and bustle of Soho or Oxford Street. The charming parade of shops boasts a florist, beauty parlor, and general store (where you can top up the travel cards we leave you) as well as restaurants and delis (such as Bon Appetit, specializing in homemade croissants).

One block away is a large park with two children’s playgrounds and a running track (where Roger Bannister trained to break the 4 minute mile). The Abbey Road Studios, where the Beatles recorded, is a 15-minute walk; as is Little Venice, with its 18th century canals and colorful houseboats. (Check out the puppet theatre barge, the canal boat ride to the zoo and the waterfront eateries.) Want to venture further? The Portabello Road Market and antique district in Notting Hill is a little over half an hour's walk.

The reception room has large windows and classic features marking the style of the late 1800's: nine-foot ceilings, crown molding, crystal chandeliers and period prints. We provide high speed wireless internet, a high-end stereo system and an assortment of guidebooks and brochures. The dining room, which can be closed off from the living room, is stocked with Portmeirion china and has a couch and TV nook at the far end. The eat-in kitchen has modern appliances as well as a washer and a dryer. The two bedrooms, on the upper floor, are large and light. The master bedroom has a queen size bed. The second bedroom has a double and a single bed, plus a pull out trundle bed. Both bedrooms overlook one-way streets with trees and little traffic. The bathroom is vast, with a tub, shower, and bidet - as well as excellent water pressure.

From Heathrow Airport take the 15 minute Heathrow Express to Paddington Station. Go one tube stop or a very short cab ride. You’ve arrived!

Our townhouse is close to two tube stations, Maida Vale and Warwick Avenue. You can get anywhere in Central London with ease. (The Bakerloo line is one of the best, with trains running every 2 or 3 minutes.) For example, Oxford Circus, London’s shopping mecca, is a ten-minute tube ride. Piccadilly Circus, the center of the theater district, is a twelve-minute ride. The Number 6 bus runs 24 hours and stops two blocks from our residence. It has a great route – stops at Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, and Trafalgar Square. You can get on and off the tubes and buses easily with a travel card. Whether you spend your days navigating the crowds on Oxford Street, touring Westminster Abbey, or awed by the Tower of London, you will welcome returning to our quiet, safe oasis.

About Fatijah Clark

My husband and I live in California, which we love - but I am English - grew up in London - and was missing my friends and family. We were fortunate enough to buy this Edwardian townhouse. We visit whenever we can and when we can't be there, we love that other people are able to enjoy London.

Fatijah Clark purchased this townhome in 2008

Why Fatijah Clark chose Maida Vale

We looked for over a year at more than 50 residences to find the perfect home base. We wanted it to be easily accessible from Heathrow, to be near a good tube line and bus route so we could easily navigate all of London, to have its own separate entrance and a spacious interior, and preferably to be a period property in a charming neighborhood (if possible with a good deli and general store across the street). Voila! This is it!

What makes this townhome unique

The townhouse was built in the Edwardian era - late 1800's or early 1900's - and we have decorated it with prints and memorabilia from this era.

Our friendly neighborhood is a quiet oasis in busy London. It is also near two tube stops on an excellent tube line so all of London is easily accessible - trains run every 2 to 3 minutes and go straight to Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square etc.

We provide a street map of London that is yours to keep. The townhouse has a library of guidebooks and brochures on historical sights, museums, parks, restaurants, walks, pubs, and day trips that are not to be missed. We'll advise you on getting around by bus or tube, how to top up your travel card, a few lesser known sights of London, and a few of our favorite hole-in -the-wall restaurants. We also provide information on walks that we love and day trips to historic places an hour's train ride from London.

We love London and hope you will too.

Great accommodations and nice to come back to home after sightseeing in city. Truly enjoyed ourselves with good cafe and deli one minute away each morning. Nice neighborhood park & pubs as well. Also owner was great providing all information to make travel around London and things to do effortless.

Our Time In London

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our visit to London and staying in the Maida Vale flat. The flat is very convenient to the Bakerloo Tube line which goes directly into London central. The flat is very comfortable and in a very nice family, quiet area. The restaurant and cafes in the area are very nice. We would recommend this flat and area for people visiting London.

A beautiful town home in a quaint part of town

  • 5 of 5

We loved this home. It was very easy to get to London and the neighbors are delightful. The owner has taken great pains to make one feel comfortable and at home. From supplying Oyster cards to having a very detailed list of things to do. If you stay, make sure you go down stairs and visit Mitch's Restaurant, He makes a great pizza and makes you feel at home. Our Son is in University in England, and when we come back, We hope to be able stay here once again. A true gem.

Charming Flat, Excellent Location!

  • 5 of 5

This flat made my Londoner husband feel right at home, only in a better neighborhood :)

Super-close to either Maida Vale or Warwick Avenue tube stops, less than 5 minutes' walk. It was in great shape and very clean, and had plenty of space for visitors: 2 bedrooms and 2 sleeper sofas. We had 5 adults in our group, plus an extra visitor one evening, and we all were very comfortable. Fatijah was wonderful to work with; we were pleased to receive 2 large informational packets in the mail that were very helpful in planning our stay.

Because the apartment is situated over 3 levels, there are lots of stairs, as can be seen from the photos, so be aware if you have anyone for whom this may be a challenge. This area is beautiful and really is part of the local lovely neighborhood, but with central London still very easily accessible.

It was the best of both worlds, with all of the original Edwardian charm along with modern conveniences, can't wait to return! [Hey Fatijah, Paul says to let us know if you want to sell it some time ;) ]

Such an amazing place!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I have just left this beautiful townhome. We spent a week there and it was just perfect. The pictures don't do it justice. It's gorgeous and you couldn't ask for a better location. The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet and quaint. And so easy to get to and from. A very short walk to the Tube on the Bakerloo Line. It's a breeze to get anywhere from this location.

The townhouse itself is great. Large and airy and absolutely beautifully furnished. If you want to cook the kitchen has everything you need. Including a dishwasher. The bathroom is huge. With additional toilets, one by the kitchen and one just outside the bath. It would be perfect even for more than just two. Fatijah thinks of everything. I've rented a lot thru VRBO and this is by far the most well prepared rental. She's fantastic. I had to laugh that this house has more built in USB outlets than I've ever seen. I'm jealous! They're in just about every room. We never needed our adaptors as there was everything we needed in the house. I think my only tiny comment is that if you or anyone with you has an issue with stairs then perhaps this wouldn't be ideal. They are steep. To me they are part of the home's charm but might be a little difficult if someone doesn't take to stairs well.

This place is truly one of the best rentals I have ever had from VRBO. Absolutely perfect in every way. If you're coming to London I wouldn't pass on this one. You won't be disappointed in the least. If I could give this more than 5 stars I would.

Ideal family apartment

  • 5 of 5

What a great apartment! It has two nicely-sized bedrooms, which was perfect for our family of four, although there were beds to accommodate two other guests. There is a really large full bathroom, as well as a powder room and an additional, separate toilet and sink; with four people, this made getting ready for bed or ready for the day easy (and eliminated bathroom arguments between teenagers!). The apartment is beautiful and conveniently located -- just a few blocks from the subway and an easy walk to many locations, such as Regent's Park. There are several shops just across the street or around the corner so coffee in the morning or other groceries and prepared foods are easy to bring back home. There is truly everything you need in the apartment, including adapter plugs. The host even leaves Oyster Cards in the apartment to add money to for using on the subway, which would otherwise be fairly costly. What is especially noteworthy is the information provided by the host -- so many tips on where to go, places to eat, transportation, etc. The host has really anticipated everything that a guest might need and that makes this apartment the best vacation rental I've used. I would totally stay here again and I highly recommend this listing.
