Cozy winter stay not too far from the Twin Cities

  • 5 of 5

Looking for a short break from our life in Minneapolis, my wife, dog, and I stayed at David's lake home between Christmas and New Year's on one of the coldest weeks of the year. It was a beautiful setting looking out over the lake while we cozied up next to their fireplace. We had to go into town a few times to get groceries and other essentials, but it was only a short 8-minute drive. With how cold it was, that was very helpful. It was also helpful that they had a garage stall for our car - it's not heated but it kept our car a little bit warmer and out of the elements so we could easily come and go. David was also very responsive if we had any questions.

Unfortunately, it was too cold for us to take advantage of any outdoor winter activities, but snow-shoeing and cross country skiing would be perfect with the surrounding lakes.

If our stay was this nice in the winter, I can't imagine how nice it would be in the summer months. We will definitely consider coming back here then.

Perfect Place!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place for our family! It has a bedroom & bathroom upstairs / bedroom & bathroom downstairs. There is a pull out sectional couch and ample floor room if you think you need more beds! They had plenty of bedding & pillows to go with the extra sleeping spaces. You have a view of the lake in every bedroom, dining room, and living room.

We stayed in middle of winter and really enjoyed the animal tracks in the snow and watching the ice skaters and people ice fishing. We enjoyed it so much next summer we plan on staying here instead of pulling our camper across ND and part of MN!

Breathtaking Views

  • 5 of 5

I was amazed as soon as I walked into the home. The kitchen was large, as was the living room and bedrooms. The views of the property and lake were magnificent. We all had a fantastic time. I hated to leave and hope to return.

Relaxing place for a vacation

  • 4 of 5

My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Mora Lake house. We were looking for a lake home where all we were going to do was nothing. The furniture is comfortable, fire pit is nice by the lake, kitchen is well stocked with cooking equipment, back of house has great views of the lake. The drive into town was less than 10 minutes. There is a great meat market and New Generations Bakery has the best muffins ever. The only disappointment was the paddleboat was not operable. I'd return.

Quiet Lake Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We have a group of friends that have a get together every year. We have stayed at several different VRBO’s, but this is definitely the nicest one. My only “complaint” is the pictures on the listing don’t do the cabin justice. The location is perfect. It’s far enough outside of town that it’s quiet, but close enough to run in and grab something if needed. The main living room has large windows that overlook the lake and has a huge sectional with a rocker/recliner and a very nice TV with satellite for the rainy days. The kitchen is very spacious with new appliances. There’s an awesome dining room table that seats 8 adults comfortably with huge windows looking out over the lake. Both bathrooms are very nice. The flooring is perfect for a lake cabin because it can be cleaned/swept easily. The lake it’s on is super quiet. At night, we actually had to use a white noise producer on our phones because it was too quiet. Lol. The owner is very responsive and provides plenty of amenities.

Lovely Lake Home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this lake home. The view from the lake house was fantastic. David was great to work with- responded quickly and answered all questions. The home is well stocked with all you need. So fun to have fishing poles, canoes & paddle boat to use. I would definitely recommend this rental!

About David

Real estate broker licensed in the state of Minnesota. Tiny home enthusiast.

David purchased this house in 2003

Why David chose Mora

We wanted a lake home close to the Twins Cities where we could relax and have quality time with family. It has been a perfect getaway for us. It has given us great pleasure to open this home to many vacationers over the years.

What makes this house unique

We love the lake home because of the open layout and view of the lake. We have really enjoyed the recent installation of a modern gas fireplace -2017. The mix sand and gravel shore makes it a perfect lake front to cool off in the summer. We keep a swimming area virtually weed free. The fishing off the dock is a bonus. Troll around the lake with a canoe and you are bound to catch a fish. In the winter there is ice fishing with easy access to DNR snowmobile trails.

Car: necessary

Throughout the year, Mora has a lot local events. In the spring canoe race on the Snake River, summer 5K & half-marathon, fall bicycle tour of 25 or 50 miles. The summer is full of county fairs, farmers' markets, 'Crazy Days' and plenty of other enjoyable activies. The fall colors are great on the lakes and the surrounding area. In the winter there are numerous snowmobil trails and plenty of lakes for ice fishing, also the world-renowned Vasaloppet Classic consisting of 13K, 35K, 42K & 58K races that draw international skiers and spectators.

Other Activities: Ice fishing during the winter
