We asked the people who have rented our cottage during the months of September and October why they liked to come during the fall. Their responses were varied and informative. Below are some of our renters favorite activities:
Enjoying a walk or hike in one of the many parks or oceanfront paths in nearby towns and cities. (Rachel Carlson's Wildlife Refuge, Marginal Way in Ogunquit, and Fort Williams Park in Portland to view Portland Headlight).
Taste sampling the many seafood eateries or the fine restaurants in Portland. One guest last year attended Harvest on the Harbor, a five-day festival of food in Portland.
Some of our guests enjoyed sitting on the rocking chairs at the cottage and observing the brilliant foliage reflecting on Sebago Lake and hearing the call of the loons. Others took day trips. The first two weeks in October are usually the best weeks for viewing in southern Maine but the colorful foliage lasts to the end of October.
Many attended fairs and festivals. Some of the most popular were the Fryeburg Fair, Fall Festival in Freeport, and the Cumberland County Fair. Here are some more activities:
*Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta
*Harvest On The Harbor in Portland - Culinary creations from Maine's top chefs
*Fall Foliage Festival - Boothbay Railway Village
*Harvest Festival - Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village
*Fall Festival and Chili Cook-Off - Shawnee Peak
*Camp Sunshine Maine Pumpkin Festival
*Harvest Festival Pineland Farms
*Leaf Peeping Trips
*Harbor Cruises to Lighthouses
*Fall Foliage Train Trip
*Portland Museums, Concerts, and Fabulous Restraurants

We take great pride in our cottage and keep it in immaculate shape and clean. Another one of our goals is to supply guest renters with an experience greater than what they expected.
The cottage is located on an acre of land with lots of flowers and a grassy lawn. There's a sandy beach and a deep-water dock for a boat.
We bought this property because it borders our next door home. Waterfront properties such as this don't come on the market frequently. Plus it has a beautiful view and is a level acre of land.
We consider this location on Big Sebago Lake as 'Paradise', which is why our home is located next door.
Please read the many reviews by guests who have stayed at the cottage.
Due to our guests' allergies we do not allow pets or smoking in the cottage or on the property grounds. Marian and I personally clean the cottage, and groom the flower beds to make things as tidy and attractive as possible. The lawn is mowed by a service company usually on a weekly basis or as needed. The neighborhood is very quiet therefore only a maximum of 6 people are allowed on the property or in the cottage at any time.
Enjoy visiting the lighthouses that line the rocky coast. Spend a day shopping in the Old Port, exploring the natural habitat, dining in one of Portland's famous restaurants, and attending a concert in the evening. Attend the Boat builders Show, Portland Museum, or the Portland Flower Show. Take a cruise on the bay or in the harbor. Visit the Maine Wildlife Park or one of Maine's State Parks. Fish, canoe, or kayak on Sebago Lake.
See the Sea Dogs, the AA affiliate of the Red Sox play at, Hadlock Field. Attend one of L.L. Bean's spring work shops or visit the shopping outlets in Kittery, ME, Freeport, ME or North Conway, NH. Spring skiing at Sunday River may even be possible.

Marian and Bob - Thank you so much for sharing your BEAUTIFUL lake house with us. Henry (7) and Simon (5) LOVED the loft! I adored the beach and Dave's favorite part was the dock! We had a great week swimming, kayaking, fishing, mini-golfing, go-cart driving, visiting the Maine Wildlife Park and EATING more ice cream and seafood than I thought possible!! The Ice Cream Dugout was a huge hit- thanks for the recommendation!! Thank you also for the delicious lemon meringue pie, the SUPER yummy and still warm blueberry muffins and the very thoughtful hostess gift! Such thoughtful and touching gestures. So appreciated!! Thank you, Thank you!
We had another wonderful stay at the cottage. Our girls are 4 and 2.5, and they thoroughly enjoyed the private beach and grassy lawn. The home is kept immaculately clean, and the gardens are just a pleasure. The hosts are warm and make sure everyone is well taken care of. We will return next year!
This was our first time at the cottage and we were pleasantly surprised! It is beautiful, well stocked and spotless! We also enjoyed the lemon meringue pie. We spent a lot of our time on the private beach. My kids, age 12 and 5, had a blast. We did a couple of day trips, and are familiar with the area. We loved that it was close to everything, yet so quiet and secluded. We would definitely stay here again!
We have been coming here for several years with our granddaughters and never tire of this lovely spot. The cottage is always immaculate, well stocked, and you can count on a pie waiting for you in the refrigerator. The owners always greet us and make us feel welcome. The large manicured lawn and beautiful flower gardens make sitting outdoors a pleasure. When we tire of swimming, we fish off the dock, go boating, or just relax on our private beach. The view by the waters edge is wonderful and this year we watched fireworks around the lake from the comfort of our lawn chairs!! Shopping and eating out are nearby when we want it and this pleases our teenagers. If you prefer to BBQ, a grill is located on the beach. All in all, this rental property offers us everything we are looking for. When we are here we want for nothing and arrive home rested and happy with memories of another vacation well spent.
Probably the best VRBO rental we have ever done. The cottage was beautifully furnished and spotless clean. We especially enjoyed the rocking chairs outside right on the lake. The "super" moon came up one night right over the lake and was spectacular. The cottage was centrally located so we did day trips for a week and visited the coast of Maine and the mountains of New Hampshire within a one hour drive. The owners, Marian and Bob, provided some excellent tips for travel and spots to eat. All were excellent choices. They also provided blueberry pie and vanilla ice cream for us to snack during the week. Overall one of the best vacations we have ever had.
After a several hour drive from Connecticut we arrived at our cottage. We were immediately drawn to spectacular Sebago Lake. After a few moments we turned to unpack the car and were welcomed by Bob and Marian. Bob said "Welcome to Paradise". Within 24 hours we knew exactly what he was talking about. The cottage was pristine. We walked in to an overflowing vase of flowers and a fresh baked blueberry pie in the fridge. Oh and I can't forget the vanilla ice cream to go with it. We brought my 14 year old daughter and niece. They loved hanging out in the loft and on the lake. It was quiet, peaceful and relaxing. The perfect retreat from our crazy lives of nonstop running. We are hoping to go back next year. The cottage, yard and view are better than pictured! We made many memories that we will cherish for a very long time.
My family of four enjoyed a beautiful week at this delightful cottage. Everything you could want and more is here, from your own private beach and dock to a sprawling yard to explore! Our two sons especially loved the loft sleeping area and made it their camp while we visited. The owners, Marian and Bob, go out of their way to make you feel welcome including baking a delicious blueberry pie. I can not rave enough about this special place. We would love to come back again soon!
