About Ruth or Fred Strohmeier

Fred's Grandfather purchased the property in 1935. Grandpa, Dad and 2 Uncles built the cabin in 1955-56 by hand with trees off the property. They cut, pealed and bleached the logs devoting many hours when not working their regular jobs so that we could enjoy the outdoors with shelter to return to in inclement weather.

We enjoy observing and interacting with nature. It is our place to get away-from-it all, not worry about getting all prim and proper unless we want to. Of course, we can get creative and find many things to do outdoors and attending local activities available in the communities around us too.

Our Grandchildren love coming to the cabin, exploring the woods, swimming, boating, fishing, wild berry picking in season, eating well, making up games, running around, building camp fires, making smores and listening to stories; some real some made up (if you can imagine that).

Ruth or Fred Strohmeier purchased this cabin in 1955

Why Ruth or Fred Strohmeier chose Fifty Lakes

This is a unique experience. No hustle or bustle, good fishing and swimming, private location, limited noise of other people and their kids. Our goal is to provide a vacation experience with positive memories to take home.

What makes this cabin unique

Screen house among the trees to enjoy lake breezes without our famous mosquitos and direct sun. Great for lunches, reading books, and board games.

Kego Lake - Our favorite vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

This was the six year that my family has visited Kego Lake. Ruth & Fred are wonderful hosts and provide a fully furnished home-away-from-home! They've thought of all the little things you might need for a week's stay. We went a week later than we have in years past and it was a little bit colder, but the fishing was amazing and the change in the fall colors from one weekend to the next was awesome. We didn't even take the pontoon out as we had so much success fishing from the dock! We've already made our reservations for next year!

Owner's Response: Even with cooler weather there are lots of things to do. We're always glad to have our guests returning. We also like to see new guests. Another great year ends. There is next year to look forward to. Ruth and Fred

Private getaway

We had a wonderful stay. The cabin is very private, you only see other cabins when on the dock. The cabin was very clean and comfortable! Ruth and Fred do a wonderful job to make you feel welcome!

Owner's Response: Wishing you a most memorable anniversary..Glad to know storms and strong winds don't break you. Others around us didn't fair as well. There were lots of trees down, holes in roofs, pontoon boats upside down in the lake and docks broken. It was a bad early morning, for sure. We're glad everything else went smoothly. Ruth and Fred

Amazing Autumn

  • 5 of 5

We have never stayed at this cabin in the fall but it was even more charming than we could have thought. Fishing was better, and the campfires were even more enjoyable. The cabin has a wonderful heating/cooling system for those chilly mornings or hot afternoons, but having the windows open is the best! As always Fred and Ruth are the perfect hosts as Sky and Jaques are great fun for our four-legged companion, Murphy.

I hate to say too many good things for fear of having too much competition for fall rentals, but in all fairness, this cabin meets all our needs and more.

Owner's Response: Fall is the perfect time for the fall color of leaves. It can be cool or warm, it can be wet or dry. Fishing usually picks up as the lake cools off in the cooler nights. Any time you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life is a treat. We enjoy our guests. Ruth and Fred

Just fantastic! we could easily retire here and never look back!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was so spacious, the beds very comfortable and with a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom no hotel I have ever stayed at was ever like this. Our dogs loved the pontoon ride as did we. was a bit chilly the first night but after that there are no complaints what so ever. Thank you Fred and Ruth we will be sure to return, and I already see that you all are booked up through august of 2018, we need to start saving now because it's very much worth it.

Owner's Response: This cabin and area is a unique experience. We have board games, puzzles and a few books or there are many unique shops and restaurants when the weather is not to your liking. We are nearby if you need something or just want to chat but we also respect your privacy. We are always glad when our guests enjoy their stay. Ruth and Fred Strohmeier

Favorite 2 weeks of Summer 2017

  • 5 of 5

After many years and many times renting Fred and Ruth's cabin, our week back in June, and this past week in August, have again left us with so many special memories. The cabin and grounds are Always clean and well-stocked, but if you ever need something, they are only a few minutes away, and couldn't be more helpful! The setting is one of a kind---Acres of tall Pines and the few residents on the lake, make this so uniquely private. Our dogs have lots of room to run and explore. We don't own a boat, so we love to take Fred and Ruth's pontoon around the lake. We always see and hear wildlife that we don't at home (love that loon call!). Grocery store nearby, plenty of restaurants (we seem to find a new one each visit). Cook dinner on the Weber grill, eat 'al fresco' in the screened porch, have a bonfire (and s'mores?) while watching the gorgeous sunset, relaxing on the wooden swing (and maybe chatting with our hosts). Ahh! Can't wait till next year!!

Owner's Response: We enjoy our guests and their comments regarding housekeeping. Ted advised us of a leak with the shower head. Fred fixed it permanently, we hope. If Ted hadn't told us of the problem we wouldn't have been aware of it. Thank you. We like to keep things working properly which requires your assistance through communication. Thanks. Ruth and Fred
