View beautiful Elk Lake through the woods from your charming log house with stone fireplace. Follow a lovely path to a spectacular setting on the lake. We have eight acres and 650 feet of frontage with a nice lawn and beach area where you can enjoy swimming, boating, playing volleyball, or just relaxing at the beach. The 80 foot dock is perfect for sunning, picnicking, or watching the kids swim at the sand bar. In the evening the reflected sunsets, stars, and sometimes fireworks or northern lights can be enjoyed from either the shore next to the fire or out on the dock. The comfortable little house is freshly stained and painted, extremely clean, and very convenient with a newly remodeled and well equipped kitchen. Your vacation should be extremely enjoyable.
We are two miles from a public boat launch and Elk Lake is part of the Antrim County chain of lakes, consisting of Elk, Skegemog, Torch, and Clam lakes flowing into Grand Traverse Bay. The chain offers 45 miles of inland boating through the lakes and four rivers.
Turtle Creek casino is six miles away, the Horse Show by the Bay is 6 miles away, and Traverse City is 14 miles away with all the amenities of a tourist oriented city.
We are a retired school teacher and semi retired auto executive and consultant. We have three adult children that were raised in this house, and 8 grand children. Our primary recreation is boating on this chain of lakes and the great lakes.
The Owner purchased this house in 1964
We offer the "family compound experience", sharing the largest lakefront property in the township with our family. We have family history in the area (my grand father settled on the next lake on the chain when he came to America in 1860) and it is a beautiful area to live and play in.
You have the opportunity to share a former resort with the owner couple. You have privacy and recreation activities available on the property, as well as many shopping and sightseeing opportunities in the near area. There is an indian casino five miles away, a nice tourist city (Traverse City) 14 miles away, several ski areas within a 60 mile radius, local festivals, a nationally acclaimed horse show, and the lakes and trees of northern Michigan. Boaters can explore over 40 miles of the Antrim County chain of lakes, including Elk, Torch, Skegemog, and Clam lakes, as well as Elk, Torch, Clam, and Grass rivers.
"Thank you for a wonderful envioronment. Our family enjoyed the setting, hospitality and accomodation. I loved the fishing!! We thoroughly enjoyed the vacation and will recommend your house to our friends. Best of luck, thank you for everything, and we'll see you again."
Was actually here last August 2012 but it doesn't go back that far. Grew up going to the UP since 1962 to family cottage but families had since moved on and away but still have some up there and friends. So now I rent. Last summer my mom and I stayed here and it was just beautiful. There is nothing in the world like Elk Lake. Water as soft as silk and clouds billowy white. Always something in the area to do from festivals to sight seeing, to museums, And not so far away further north for a nice day trip is Mackinaw Island. oh and the best cherries around. Short trip in to go to the Cherry Street Market in Kalkaska which is the best around for fresh veggies and fruits. And dont forget the Murdock's Fudge. Yep Greatest place on earth. And the Cabin here is quiet with lots of room to roam the yard for kids to play or just to walk around. Very nice owners. Cant wait to go back. Elk Rapids is close by with nice shops and restaurants with local fish. Can go out on a fishing expedition, or just walk the docks and look at the boats. Or a short drive into Traverse City for many other options. Beautiful sunsets await you. I hope to continue and go back for many years to come.
The Turtle Creek Casino is 5 miles away. The Horse Show by the Bay is 6 miles away. Traverse City is only 14 miles away with all the opportunites for entertainment of a tourist oriented city.
The 80 foot dock and moorings make boating convenient and enjoyable -- Elk Lake is a large, deep, clear lake that offers 45 miles of boating on the Chain of Lakes. A large fire pit at beach with plenty of firewood makes evenings a joy. Of course there are picnic tables, lawn chairs, and chaise lounges at the waterfront, as well as at the house. Badminton and volley ball can be played on any of three lawn areas. We have a canoe and rowboat available.
