Spacious and Unique Adobe House, 2 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)
I grew up here in Northern New Mexico, and have spent many years exploring the wilderness areas nearby. Later I lived in exciting places like Washington DC and San Francisco. But eventually I felt called back home, and I haven't regretted it since. I find great solace in the wide open lands, vast blue skies, and I appreciate the diverse cultural history of this area very much.
Alicia purchased this House in 1998
Why Alicia chose El Rito
When I moved back to New Mexico I wanted to live somewhere peaceful and remote, yet not too far from civilization. El Rito was perfect. Nestled in a tranquil river valley, with countless trails to explore in the surrounding mountains, yet only an hour's drive to a hotspot like Santa Fe or Taos, I found the perfect balance. Years later, when I moved to Santa Fe for professional opportunities, I began renting Casa Ambrosia as a vacation home. For several years now, I have enjoyed sharing this nurturing home with it's beautiful natural surroundings with many guests, and it is my wish that many others may also experience the restorative possibilities that abound here.
What makes this House unique
Whether it's getting away from a busy job, wanting the peace and quiet of this serene place for rest and renewal, or looking for new adventures out in nature, this is a great place to visit. I love the amazing variety of terrain around here, from the high mountains with their meadows, lakes and streams, to the lower desert canyonlands with their colorful cliffs and magical rock formations. And with Santa Fe, Taos, Bandelier, and other interesting places so nearby, there's never a shortage of things to do or see. There's truly something for everyone to enjoy!

Serene, expansive views
This was the perfect location from which to explore Northern New Mexico; quick access to Taos and the Sangre de Cristos, even quicker access to Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch. We set our alarm one night for just after moon-set to see the dark sky, and it was spectacular. There was an air of peace and serenity that covered the whole area. The view out the bedroom door changed constantly with the light, and the sounds of distant cows and nearby birds filled the air.
The one drawback was that the wifi wasn't great, but we found a CAT-5 cable and plugged directly into the router for the couple of urgent things we needed to accomplish. My recommendation would be to just swear off the whole internet while you're there and enjoy the desert instead.
Alicia was a wonderful host and sent very detailed and helpful instructions before our trip, as well as having a wealth of information available in the retreat itself. I have to specifically call out the Canyon Road/Santa Fe art scene books she had available, which helped guide our exploration of Santa Fe immediately after our stay.
Thank you for everything Alicia!
Unique New Mexican getaway!
Unique architecture, tasteful decoration, private location, and huge windows looking out on fields and mountains make this a very inviting and restful place to kick back and relax. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there.
We used this home as our base for exploring northern New Mexico, and it worked well for us as we like driving. Just be aware that it is somewhat off the beaten track! We enjoyed the little nearby town of El Rito—if you like New Mexican food, don’t miss the tiny but wonderful restaurant El Farolito.
Picture perfect. Quiet, secluded, beautiful, we had such an amazing time staying at the casa and absorbing all the local and nearby sights. Thank you Alicia for sharing your casa. It's an experience we'll treasure.
Wonderful remote property
This is a wonderful and entirely unique house which feels qute remote but is only a couple of miles from El Rito in New Mexico. It was a joy to stay in and we would love to come back.
There is a great hot tub and the circular bedrooms/ office are superb. Everywhere you turn there are interesting views of the architecture, windows etc. It is also very quiet and private. Thanks for such an extraordinary house.
Overall good time
The one thing I would stress to anyone staying at this property is to PLEASE make sure to keep the entry doors to the house closed at ALL TIMES. If you fail to do this the critters/creepy crawlers will most definitely find their way into the house.
Overall though, we had a good stay. We slept well and we had what we needed to cook in the kitchen. The location was great as well. Very nice to be away from people.
Casa Ambrosia getaway!
Casa Ambrosia was the perfect place to get away from it all but still have access to the outdoors and the many great places in northern New Mexico. The house was well stocked, peaceful and special, and away from anything resembling hustle and bustle. And it's also close enough to Taos, Santa Fe, the Ghost Ranch and more. - and it's on the dge of the National Forest. And, if you are there in the August warmth (still cooler than home for us), there is AC as well. Finally, Alicia is very responsive if you need anything. We'll be back.
Casa Ambrosia is located in the heart of Northern New Mexico. An hour or less drive in any direction gets you to such diverse attractions as the Santa Fe Opera, skiing in Taos, swimming in Lake Abiquiu, fine dining, opera, museums, art galleries, and shopping in Santa Fe, high mountain hiking in meadows and along streams, desert cliff walks at Ghost Ranch, natural hot springs resort and spa at Ojo Caliente, ancient cliff dwellings and petroglyphs at Bandelier, and much more.
