About Jake Barcelon

Our family of 4 wanted a mountain retreat from the Bay Area. We didn't want to fight Tahoe traffic so found Shasta to be perfect.

Why Jake Barcelon chose Shasta Cascade

Private yet close to town. sit on the deck or look out your windows and see beautiful trees and blue skies. no car noise or traffic!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The house was just perfect for us – we were an assortment of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews in Shasta for a family wedding. The house was great, location and layout great....and now my family thinks that I am a brilliant vacation planner.

Thank you. This was a very successful arrangement for us.

Great Last Minute Trip

  • 5 of 5

Planned a last minute ski trip (the night before we planned to leave) and worried we would not find a rental quick enough for our party of 6. The owner/mgmt company responded quickly and we were in with no issues! The place was heated, cozy, and very clean (most important thing to me!) when we arrived. Wonderful communication!

One car garage for the SUV and gear, if any. As you come into the house from the garage there is a basement area to put your shoes and any additional gear.

The main house is upstairs with 3 bedroom/2 full baths. There is internet (necessity for our family). The living room/dining room is a nice area for playing games and socializing - no TV(s) upstairs in the main living areas. TV is in the basement room.

Nice sized kitchen. We didn't find dishwasher detergent which was probably a simple oversight, but dish soap and paper towels were all there. There is a coffee pot/filters - Bring caffeinated coffee! I seem to forget these things when we rent cabins! Everything we needed was there.

My 9 & 11 year old were excited for the bunk beds upstairs but then opted for the downstairs bedroom connected to a living room area with large couch & TV. The DVD player does not take Blu Ray disks but they do have a little collection of DVD's to choose from. The wall heater warmed the bedroom/living area quickly. There is a 1/2 bath in the basement along with a full-sized washer/dryer.

It's probably not surprising but you need to keep showers VERY short, at least during cold weather...definitely cannot shower 4-6 people without staggering.

The cabin uses well water - my husband could not get over how good it tasted and we have fabulous water at home.

Takes about 20-25 mins to get to the ski resort.

Town is a few miles away from the cabin, easy drive. There is a supermarket (Rays) which is open until 11pm (small selection of GF items) and a few other small markets. Berryvale Café was nice...a small grocery with organic & GF choices, and carries wonderful local bottled water. The café offers soups, coffees, salads, sandwiches, etc. There is a Burger King, KFC, Taco Bell, Subway if you want fast food. We managed to eat at Black Bear Diner which was a good choice for a party of 6.

This is not a "luxury" home, it's an older place with older "stuff", and was exactly as advertised. Everything worked, everything was clean & we had tons of space. We were very happy and would certainly stay again.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great home to stay at. We were there two years ago in the summer of 2013 and we are looking to go back again this summer 2015. The place was very comfortable and clean. Big enough for our family of four, two small dogs and two additional friends. We went out on day trips just about every day. Not sure if there is Internet access now, but we liked it better without so the kids would focus on having fun outdoors. We highly recommend this place for families with kids. We are looking forward to coming back.

Family Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Home description was accurate, the owner was helpful in giving local store recommendations for wifi connection, instructions for the house, etc., no problems with the property, and would recommend (especially to outdoors lovers who do not have pets) for a low technology vacation.

Very nice Shasta home

  • 5 of 5

I lived in Mt Shasta for several years and return frequently for visits. This home is a great representation of "Shasta living". The house is very cozy with a simple floor plan and sits at the end of a very quiet and sparsely populated cal-de-sac. Much of the decor caries a native-american theme that conveys a spirituality which is often associated with the mountain and the area in general. The back deck is very spacious with forested views and the house was very clean and well appointed. It is centrally located in terms of attractions - 5 minutes from downtown, ten minutes from lake Siskiyou, etc. To me, this house very-much seemed like home. Highly recommended

We chose this cabin for size and location for Christmas this year with our daughters and their husbands/boyfriends and our 3 dogs..It was amazing. Plenty of room, dogs loved the property. Spacious, clean, everything you need minus your food. A 6 hr power outage on Christmas Eve lets you know how well equipped the home problems and heat from the wood burner may card playing by candlelight an unexpected treat! Close to town, movies, snow, skiing and sledding. We'll be staying here again...
