3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, sleeps 6 villa great beach view
Our property is an Alojamento Local Licenced property. This means that it has had an inspection by the local council authorities and it conforms with the appropriate standards.
This is our privately owned detached villa which is situated in an elevated position overlooking the historic castle of Sao Joao do Arade, the river Arade estuary, the Marina de Portimao & the Angrinha beach. The villa has its own private south facing pool, tropical gardens & terraces where you can benefit from the sun & solitude throughout the day.
Praia Grande's beach 150 metres with Angrinha even closer.
The bright, airy & spacious lounge & dining area has south & west facing patio windows with direct access to the sun terraces that provide the perfect setting for a dream holiday. Ideal for alfresco dining whilst watching the waterborne activities.
Patio doors from both of the middle floor bedrooms lead directly onto the pool area and the lower floor bedrooms also have small patio areas and access to the landscaped gardens.
The villa is situated on the south side of Ferragudo village which is a picturesque unspoiled fishing village which appears unchanged for many years. The village is only a short stroll away through narrow cobbled streets or take the flatter route along the path behind the beach to the quayside.
Transfers to and from Faro Airport:
It is perfectly possible to enjoy a holiday here without a car although to fully appreciate what the Algarve has to offer we would recommend car hire (details of competitive suppliers can be provided on request).
Full directions to the property will be supplied.
We can guide you with arrangements for a taxi from the airport (approximate cost is 60 euros each way).
As an alternative, why not take a taxi from the airport and hire a car later in the week – car hire can be arranged in the village.
Once you are at the villa the shops, beaches, restaurants and entertainment are all within easy walking distance from our property.
Organised coach tours, can be arranged in the village, to attractions such as Slide & Splash and Zoo Marine or even further afield. There is a regular local bus service (with a stop close by) which runs between Portimao and Carvoeiro. As a novel way of getting around you could always book a water taxi to take you across the river to Praia de Rocha and Portimao. In 2016 a hop on hop off circular bus route, covering Ferragudo, Carvoeiro and Lagoa, was introduced.
Other attractions which start out from the quayside in the village are boat trips to Silves and the caves around the Algarve and a whale/dolphin watching trip -Wildwatch Algarve.
Layout of the villa: The villa is approached through a small terraced garden area with a safe enclosed paved area suitable for children's play. The hall opens out into a large sitting/dining room with separate kitchen.
To the left of the main door is the master bedroom with double bed & en-suite shower room. This is particularly suitable for the elderly or infirm (there is, however a flight of steps down to the pool area). A separate WC is also available on the living room level.
Stairs lead down to the second double-bedded room, a twin-bedded room (both with beautiful castle & marina views) & bathroom with bath/shower.
A second staircase leads down to the ground floor level where there is a further double bedroom, twin bedroom and a full bathroom. This section of the villa will be closed off to parties who only book 3 bedrooms.
All bedrooms have ample wardrobe & storage space & all have cold air-conditioning/heating units.
At the front of the house is a terraced garden with orange, lemon, figs, almond, walnut, apple & banana trees. Around the pool area there are ample sun lounger’s & a shower.
Activities for all the family: The villa has its own private pool (supplement charged for heating the pool) & there is a communal pool close by which, with prior agreement with Vila Castelo reception, may be available for use.
Ferragudo's Praia Grande is a large unspoilt Blue Flag sandy beach with 4 great bars/restaurants & lots of space for the kids to enjoy volleyball, football, digging, fishing or swimming. It's a safe beach sheltered by the harbour walls & it has a wind-surf centre. Pedloes, canoes & kayaks available for hire. Supervised canoeing up the river can be arranged through the Tourist Office in the village. Zoos, a marine park & aqua parks within easy driving (organised excursions available). For the active types there are attractive coastal & inland walks with great photo opportunities.
Portimao Retail Centre (Aqua) is 6 kms away & Portimao also has a good traditional shopping centre. Recent investment in Portimao has created an attractive town & riverside area. Music concerts are held on the waterfront & the annual sardine festival is worth a visit.
Bookings can be made for the 6 golf courses, tennis & boat trips (with fishing and/or dolphin watching) all of which are close by.

Yet Another 5* Review. And Well Deserved!
Having researched Ferragudo and read the previous reviews of this villa, I had a good feeling that this was the place for our family holiday and my "special age" celebration. And how right I was!
Owner Stephen has been absolutely brilliant with all forms of communication from my original enquiry right through to the time we got home. And since I must add, including the very prompt return of our deposit.
On arrival, we were met by Paula (pron.Powla!), who gave us a lovely warm welcome, and an introductory tour of the well set-out, spacious and spotlessly clean villa. Our 2 young grandchildren took great delight in choosing where they were sleeping (with our agreement obviously!), but then couldn't wait to get into the pool which they absolutely loved and were very sad to leave behind at the end of the week. As was I!
The location could not be better, it being about a steady 10 minute walk (if that) to our favourite beach, Praia Grande, with it's excellent facilities, whilst going the other way into the village takes a similar time. Or longer if you have a refreshment stop just over halfway! The small baker's shop and mini-supermarket are amongst the first shops you come across and provide a decent choice for food shopping etc. In fact, my granddaughter had me going with her every day for opening time .8am! No lie-in for me but I loved the sun appearing whilst having my wake-up cuppa on the villa's balcony anyway! Although there were several other spots I could have more than happily enjoyed it as well.
Stephen suggests various places for dining in his very informative information pack and we took him up on several as well as trying a few others. We enjoyed all, especially my celebratory evening at Fim do Mundo (thanks especially to Stephen again, and restaurant owner Jo), having pre-booked this before we left home as recommended. Another wise decision.
So all in all, a wonderful villa in a wonderful village in a wonderful part of the world where we all had a most wonderful holiday!
We look forward to returning sometime in the not-too-distant future.
I am delighted that Dave and his family enjoyed their stay in our villa. It is great to hear the positive comments on the way his booking was handled and also the additional information supplied about the property and Ferragudo generally. I am delighted that he enjoyed celebrating his birthday at a recommended restaurant. Dave, Sue and family would be more than welcome to come back to us in the future. Thanks for the positive review.
Perfect villa choice
After much research, we booked this villa for our summer holiday. It was fabulous. Very clean and spacious. Ferragudo town is easy walking distance from the property where many good restaurants can be found. The beach ( and some great beach bars ) is only a 5 minute walk away.
At the property, the pool area is very well maintained with plenty of sunbeds/ shade.
The owner replied to any of my questions very promptly and efficiently .
This property is a gem . We would definitely rebook in the future.
This is a great property, perfect for big families or groups of friends. Child friendly with games, safety and its location. The pool is just perfect and the layout of the property allows for Sun or shade at any time of the day. It's within walking distance to the centre of the village and amenities that you require for a perfect holiday.
The beaches are 10 mins walk and are stunning.
The owner is very accessible and helpful, no hidden costs or attempt to mislead and any questions or queries are answered almost immediately.
You get what you pay for and this property was excellent value.
Perfect Algarve Family Villa
This is a lovely villa in a beautiful village, highly recommended. We would definitely return.
The Villa itself is very clean, and has every amenity a family needs. Pool is large enough to swim in. Ample space to sun bathe.
The owner is very helpful, and provide great communications at every step. Local management (Paula) was great.
Easy walk to the beach, Kalu Bar and Club Nau highly recommended. Also a short walk to the village centre, with its many great restaurants and bars.
We traveled in September, and didn't require all rooms. The owner kindly offered us the top 2 floors at a reduced rate. Although I guess this isn't possible during peak season it certainly made up our minds, and we were not disappointed.
Glorious week in Ferragudo
Great villa split over three levels which accommodated two families perfectly. Loads of balcony and patio space and a great pool. The location was wonderful too. Just a Short walk to a great beach with restaurants etc. A short walk the other way takes you into The town centre which had loads of restaurants etc but felt pretry unspoilt. Absolutely loved being able to walk into town for evening meals etc. We would definitely go back. Dan
Home from home
Having previously missed out on staying at this property we were excited about arriving here, disappointed we were not.
Stephen the owner had been very helpful from the moment we booked, giving detailed information on the villa prior to our arrival, even helping out with the transfer from Faro.
Linda who looks after the property, changing bed linen, towels etc, was there to meet and greet us, showing us around the property both inside and out, making us all feel at home.
Being only four of us we were spoilt with all the space available to us, using only two of the three floors. A larger party I'm sure would find this more than adequate. Having ones own pool did make a big difference, the beach though is only a five minute walk being very safe with plenty of space to lose yourself on.
The property was clean with all modern conveniences to make our two week stay more than comfortable.
Knowing the area there are many places to eat if you don't want to be preparing meals in the villa, if you do though eating out on the top terrace watching the sun go down, fishing boats come in is a pleasure.
You can almost manage without a car as there are local supermarkets and you can always take a taxi to one of the larger ones if you need a big ship, we like the InterMarche at Carvoerio.
There are places to visit if you do have a car, the castle at Silves, Zoo Marine and if you are into diving I recommend you book with Subnauta in Praia da Rocha www.subnauta.pt. They have some excellent places to dive and recently three ex Navy ships were sunk just for diving with a fourth due to be sunk this month.
I would recommend this property if you want somewhere to relax in and be private in the Algarve sun.
The comments made by James are really appreciated. I feel that it is important to provide as much information as possible so that guests can start their holidays running. James and his family were already familar with the delights of Ferragudo so I didn't need to try too hard to sell the place to him. Thanks for mentioning the diving - this is going to be a real attraction for the area generally. I do hope that we can welcome you and your family back in the near future.
Ferragudo is charming and for a relatively small village it is blessed with an abundance of good quality restaurants (at least one for each night of a two week stay!) serving fresh fish and all manner of typically Portuguese cuisine. The children will find plenty of their favourites on the menus.
The village square comes alive during the summer months when it is the centre for an eclectic mix of entertainment including Portuguese folklore, English & Portuguese popular music groups dancing and children’s entertainers.
The bars surrounding the square are popular, relaxing and family orientated where you can enjoy a bottle of Portuguese wine, a cold beer, a coffee or an ice cream. The popularity of the area is evidenced by the growing number of ocean going cruise liners that are calling into Portimao.
By arrangement, with the Vila Castelo management, guests may also use the facilities of the complex which includes reception, swimming pool and pool bar. Also by arrangement Vila Castelo Parque may allow access to their fitness suite.
Other Activities: Aqua fun parks, soft ball play area, zoos, castles, boat trips, English speaking cinemas
