Hello. We have this home for approximately 5 years. My father and I purchased the home as a family camp due to its close proximity to Crystal Lake and Pageant Park Beach. We renovated our home about 2 1/2 years ago and added a new kitchen and bath. It has a large porch and yard - great for family memories!
Our long drive to Barton was coming to an end.. We were at Exit 24 and the skies opened up with torrential rain and lightning. Rain came to a stop and we finally arrived at our destination. A nice yellow house with a porch. I thought, I cant wait to have my coffee on that porch in the morning. The house and property is clean and well maintained. It gives off a warm homey feeling and is provided with all the necessities. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. Town and the beach is near by. We hiked Pisgah mountain. Village Pizza and Carriage House in Orleans, Everybuddys in Lyndon and The Cow Palace in Derby were all good restaurants. The only suggestion.... There is no cross ventilation in the back bedroom, perhaps a ceiling fan would help. Truly everything was wonderful and we wouldn't hesitate to rent this house again.
We have stayed in this house for the past several years for our annual Vermont vacation. The house exactly what we need. Always clean and a great location. Our favorite place to stay in Vermont.
We travel across the U.S. every year to visit a lot of family in this area. We picked this as a vacation spot years ago because it met the needs of our family including our 3 young adult children. After our children stopped coming a couple years ago, we stayed at a couple of other locations in the area but nothing was quite as comfortable as this house is. The porch is amazing, the furnishings are comfortable, it has 2 bathrooms and enough space inside and outside so that we can have a lot of family visit (or not). The location is also wonderful because it is close enough to the beach but not right on top of it so you don’t get the noise. Wonderful hiking, beautiful waterfalls, a fun fire pit for those yummy S’Mores and a lush lawn just make it an outstanding and fun place to stay. Since we’d rather spend our money on vacationing and not eating out, this home meets our need since the kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans and most importantly, a wonderful coffee maker, so you can make all your meals if you choose. It has become “our” place and our family anticipates our arrival at this location each year. Hopefully you will enjoy all the benefits this home has to offer but please don’t take our favorite week(s) in July.
Great weather for a getaway on the Fourth, but we had some issues/concerns with the property. The property was as pictured, but the location was not what we had envisioned. A few steps away from the beach was HIGHLY exaggerated. I'm sure there is a nice lake view in the winter when there are no leaves. Not true in the summer. There is a campground right across the road from the house. Smoke and noise were coming from the campground until later in the evening. Due to the wind conditions smoke usually found it's way into the house as well as the noise from our campground neighbors. The ONLY road into the campground goes right in front of the house causing traffic noise well into the evening. The screen door on the sliding door in the living room area was damaged when we got there. It looks like someone tried to break in at some point. Maybe someone thought that they could steal something out of the house before it gets sold. After all there was a realtors sign on the front lawn. The rug in the dining room almost caused my wife and I to sip and fall. There is a product that goes under rugs to stop them from sliding on the bare floor. We ended up rolling the rug up on the end by the little island to prevent injuries while we were there. The house was clean and there were enough pots and pans and dishes for our use.
In the initial sentence that I sent you I said we were looking for a little quiet getaway for the 4th of July weekend. Road to campground, campground neighbors not so quiet. The best time we had was in Newport not on Crystal Lake.
We had a great time. The home was so warm and cozy with the sound of a beautiful waterfall just behind it. We slept like babies. Loved sitting on the wrap-around porch. Also, we would take a short walk to Crystal Lake (Pageant Park beach) and sit on the picnic tables and enjoy the sunset. Krista is very pleasant to deal with.
Me and my band stopped at this house along our tour to rehearse and record new songs and had an amazing time. The landlord is very accommodating and easy to get in touch with. The house was bigger in person then in the photos too! I wish I could live here all the time!
