Modern and exquisitely equipped country house for up to 10 guests
El Cobijo is a beautiful modern villa built in traditional Andalusian style on a lightly sloping olive grove of approximately 3 acres. The villa’s main level is built around a charming, open patio with fountain, around which one has access to the living room with fireplace, a terrace with beautiful views of the sierra and Ronda, the dining room, a fully equipped designer kitchen, a powder room, and a guest room with bathroom. A hall way on an intermediate level provides access to two additional bedrooms each with bathroom. The bright, master bedroom is located upstairs with a large bathroom and private roof terrace with gorgeous views. An additional bedroom which doubles as the TV and game room with sitting area and a bathroom is on the villa's lower level. There's also a utility room for 2 washers, 2 dryers, and additional refrigerator. The swimming pool is surrounded by a large sun terrace with a shower house and a roofed, poolside bar with BBQ.
Ronda is a beautiful, historic Andalusian city. It is a perfect destination to stroll through the narrow streets of its ancient historic city center with its centuries old, iconic bridge over a 100 m deep gorge that divides the old and the newer parts of the city and with the famous, and also oldest bull fighting arena in Spain. Ronda is located in midst of the scenic Serranía of Ronda dotted by the picturesque, white Andalusian villages such as Gaucín, Grazalema, and Zahara, an ideal region for sight seeing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and sail gliding.
Golfing and general tourist attractions:
The property is surrounded by over 30 of Spain's finest golf courses on the Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz many of which are reachable in less than 50 minutes by car. Some of Europe's most important cultural cities such as Córdoba, Granada, and Sevilla can easily be reached for enjoyable and extraordinary sight seeing excursions. These cities offer historic sights of incomparable beauty as well as an opportunity to meander through charming, narrow streets, and visit fine Andalusian shops, tapas bars and restaurants. In addition, one can drive through Spain's unique Sherry wine regions of Jeréz and Sanlúcar, visiting such famous Sherry bodegas as Domecq, Gonzalez Byass, Lustau, Hidalgo and many others. While there, visit the famous Domecq Horse Show. Not far away is one of Europe's most intriguing bird sanctuaries, The Doñana National Park, a protected reserve and a popular attraction for nature lovers. A day trip to Tangiers, Morocco with a visit to the fascinating and colorful local souks is only a few hours away by taking the high speed ferry from Tarifa.
If you don't plan on spending too much time traveling by car, you can choose among many local, charming destinations such as the magnificent, nearby village of Setenil de las Bodegas with its breath taking gorge in and around which this Andalusian village was built or the Roman ruin of Acinipo with a well preserved amphitheater and stunning views of the region. Or you can take the scenic mountain road towards Algeciras to the lovely village of Gaucín, one of the most attractive gems among Andalucía's White Villages.
Other recreational activities:
The beaches of Costa del Sol are situated along one of Europe's most formidable summer resorts including Marbella, Puerto Banús, Estepona, and Sotogrande on the Mediterranean Sea. On the Atlantic side, the endless, white sand beaches frequently have steady winds making this area ideal for wind and kite surfing. One of our favorite beaches on this side is Bolonia, where you can also visit its well preserved Roman ruins Baelo Claudia.
If you love horses, we can help you plan a morning ride through the area's beautiful scenery. If you plan to travel in early spring, consider the highest snow peaks of the Iberian Peninsula located in the Sierra Nevada, very close to Granada, with some of Spain's best ski slopes. Although at least 2 and a half hours away by car, you can still plan on arriving at the slopes before noon and returning home for dinner. Sierra Nevada has over 90 km of well maintained, tree-less ski runs, some of which provide breath taking views of the Mediterranean Sea.
The owner may from time to time be in residence in a separate part of the villa with separate entrance. However, the gardens, pool and terraces are exclusive for the use of guests. The owner will be discrete at all times and will personally ensure the house and all services are run to a high standard.

Lovely stay in a great villa!
This villa was really luxurious and offered everything we needed for our one week stay. We were most impressed by the standard of the property and it was immaculately clean. Special thanks to Maria that came to the house every day to tidy up even do our washes. We didn’t see anybody but the pool was checked every morning. The water was crystal clear and still cold even with the high temperature we got (38 degrees..).
We had 4 kids in tow (age 7-9) and this fabulous place worked perfectly to accommodate and entertain them. There were lots of board games, lego and at the heatest moment of the day, the X-Box was a nice distraction. We loved the pool and the large and verdant garden.
The rooms are very elegant with wonderful artwork and lots of welcoming touches. Every room has their own facilities and very good (and silent) air-condition. The build quality is exceptional and all bedrooms are quiet and very private.
The kitchen is well equipped - and we all ate together at a large table on the veranda, overlooking the valley and the sunset. There are breezes to cool the villa - although it looks as though it would be wonderful even in winter as it has a woodburner and cosy furnishings in the beautiful living room.
We all would definitely recommend a stay here and would definitely stay here again.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and kind words. The cool nights help keep the water temperature down even in this very hot summer. We love it when our guests enjoy their stay.
Beautiful Villa in Arriate, Andalucia
Excellent in all senses; wondeful Villa, very tastefully decorated and furnished. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend. Everything was as good as or better than the description. Plenty of interesting towns and villages to visit. Raynold was extremely helpful and kind. Thanks Very Much Indeed.
Lovely and well thought out villa - perfect for families.
The owners could not be nicer or more helpful and generous. The view from the house is one of the loveliest I've seen. The house is beautiful, very spacious and well laid out for large families. We had a really wonderful time.
We all love it! The villa, the location, the weather, the people. Simply WOW!
Luxury and privacy in a peaceful setting
We, family of ten, had a wonderful week at the beautiful villa El Cobijo. The house was clean, spacious and well equipped; we didn't miss a thing. The owner, Raynold von Samson was very hospitable and gave us some good tips what to see and where to go. We made daytrips to Sevilla, Ronda, Cordoba and the pueblos blancos. We made hikes near El Bosque or just stayed at the villa to enjoy the beautiful view or take a dive in the pool. We really enjoyed our stay and we are all sure that we will be back soon.
Great property, great location
Without repeating everything other reviewers have said, let me summarize by saying all of the positive things said are true. We were a party of 8 adults. The house is well appointed and offers a beautiful view across olive groves and fields to the distant mountains. We had Maria prepare wonderful dinners for us 3 nights, ate at El Muelle 2 nights and prepared our own 2 nights with ingredients obtained in Arriete. The village is charming and "real", unspoiled by too many tourists. The local shops had everything we needed. El Muelle is very good and we had fun joking and chatting with the owner, Frank. Raynold arranged a visit to a local winery located in a restored monastery. The owner, Flávio spend a long time with us talking about the wine as well as many other subjects. We enjoyed Ronda and the various white villages and typically ate lunch in one of them. A day trip to Seville with a walking tour was worthwhile, but it was nice to leave the hordes of tourists and come back to the tranquil El Cobijo. We have recommended El Cobijo and the area to many friends.
The local winery is Descalzos Viejos which is worth visiting not only to taste their lovely wines but seeing their beautiful restoration of an old convent as well as the stunning views.
The property is accessible through a remote controlled iron gate along a small driveway leading up to the house. The house is located 1.5 km away from the charming, rural village of Arriate and 8 km away from historic Ronda. Ronda is situated 1 hour from the airport of Málaga, 45 minutes from Marbella and the Costa del Sol, as well as 1 hour and 15 minutes from downtown Sevilla. The scenic Serranía of Ronda is well-known for its magnificent views, its beautiful hiking trails and the famous white mountain villages. In addition, one can reach the Alhambra in Granada in one and one half hours (145 km) as well as Córdoba in just over 2 hours (200 km) by car. Gibraltar and Algeciras are 100 km away, and the endless Atlantic coast beaches of Tarifa up to Cadiz, one of Europe´s most famous windsurfing resort, can be reached in 2 hours. The region provides over 40 of Spain´s finest golf courses, some of which can easily be reached in under 50 minutes. Other Activities: hiking, visiting Ronda, Sevilla, Córdoba, Granada, fine dining
