Secluded yet central location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 stayed at Old Salt July 8-15/17. The house came equipped with everything we needed and is centrally located to most South shore sites. We did day trips to Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Ovens Caves, Halifax and Brier Island for Whale watching (which we highly recommend). Beware the ticks were quite abundant on the property especially on the walk down to the water which is not clear and very hard to maneuver. Only made the trek once. Lesson learned. We saw a deer or two a couple of times at dusk. Beautiful sunsets.

JoAnne was very informative, helpful and patient with my many many emails which I am sure got quite annoying.

We would recommend this property to anyone and would definitely stay again.

We had a fantastic time a Nova Scotia. We where with the six of us. there was enough space, the view was breathtaking. The house was well equipped. The cleaning lady could do a better job and the washing machine needed to be replaced. But seeing deer in the early morning in your garden makes you forget this small issues.

The weather was great (no rain so unfortunate the water pressure became very low ) so fantastic kayaking, whale watching, fishing and of course nice dinners with lobster.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review - we appreciate all suggestions on ways to improve. All of Nova Scotia experienced unprecedented drought last year and many homes in the area had water problems. We were lucky not to have run out of water and did not know about the low pressure since we've never experienced this before. We will certainly keep this in mind in the future and will be proactive with our guests if we're unfortunate enough to have another drought. This is the first we've heard about issues with the washing machine but we will have that checked before the rental season this summer. And, I'm sorry you were less than pleased with the cleaning. We've had great comments about our new cleaner this year and wish you'd mentioned this sooner because I would have had a different cleaner come in at my cost and make sure the house was up to your standards. It bothers me that such a simple fix was missed and that I didn't have the opportunity to make your holiday outstanding.

Stayed for a few days in the Winter. Beautiful property and home. The house was clean and there was tons of books and games. The view is amazing! We saw gorgeous sunsets every night. Also saw deer every morning and night! There's a bunch of beaches close by and Halifax is not a far drive. Will definitely be staying here again when we come back to Nova Scotia.

Secluded & serene get away with ocean views and plentiful wildlife...

  • 5 of 5

Fall get away for my wife & myself and our 2 dogs. The property was just what we needed to get away from it all. Secluded and peaceful. The water is a short walk down the hill away and the rocky beach is beautiful. Would go back again if we ever head to Nova Scotia in the future. Took day trips to Peggy's Cove, Lunenberg, Mahone Bay and Halifax..all had lots to offer on many different scales. We cooked fresh lobster from Ryer's (Peggy's Cove Rd.)and would highly recommend them as well as White Sails Bakery nearby. The owners were quite helpful beforehand providing information about areas.

We spent 4 nights at Old Salt. It was a clean, comfortable place with plenty of space for the 3 adults in my party to relax and enjoy the terrifc view. Being in such a remote location, I was worried about internet connectivity. However, service was good and I could both enjoy my vacation while taking care of a litle bussines. Using the cottage as our base of operations, we were able to visit Mahone Bay, Peggy's Cove, Lunnenburg, shops and museums in the immediate area. I would reccomend it to anyone.

Refreshing and inspiring

  • 5 of 5

This is not my first visit to this wonderful cottage and it will not be my last. This historic home sits on a large overlook with a fabulous view of Little Tancook island, Mahone Bay and the ocean. It is very clean and has all of the modern conveniences including internet, washer & dryer, and a large full kitchen and pantry stocked with all the essentials you need to get you through until you go shopping. The beds are comfortable and the decor makes you feel like you are visiting a good friend and includes hand hooked rugs on the floors. Very private with plenty of indoor and outdoor space. We enjoyed being entertained by wildlife in the yard that included deer, rabbits, porcupine, ravens, hawks and gulls. There are no large towns nearby so at night we enjoyed the deck viewing the amazing Milky Way and stars. The Northern Lights were seen 2 nights before we arrived. We took day trips to Mahone Bay, Peggy's Cove lighthouse, the Chester Farmer's Market and Lunenberg. Of special interest to us is the nearby Hooked Rug Museum of North America with it's marketplace and colorful art. If you enjoy art or history that is a great place to visit. Old Salt is charming and feels so comfortable. It is a place to leave the world behind and renew yourself. Thank you again Jo-Ann!
