This place is so spacious and comfortable, I didn't want to leave. We had a group of 15 and there was plenty of room for everyone. The kitchens were well equipped and it was easy to cook a nice meal for a large crowd with two of everything. It was nice having the washer and dryer, especially with kids. We loved the huge covered deck with ceiling fans and large tables and chairs. The view was amazing and we even saw an eagle as we sipped our coffee on the deck one morning. The lodge is clean and beautifully decorated. I liked that one side of the lodge was nautical themed and the other side was woodsy themed. Everything was perfect. The beds were comfortable and there was a nice breeze provided by the large window in each bedroom. I loved the ceiling fans in every bed room too. We all took showers and didn't run out of hot water. The lodge was certainly built with comfort, convenience and character in mind.
Long Lake is clean and clear with lots of fish. The best ones we caught were right off our own dock. We swam and thoroughly enjoyed being on the lake 24/7. The back yard is spacious and we set up a volley ball net. We also enjoyed the ping pong table in the basement. It was nice being able to spread out, if some wanted to play a board game and others wanted to watch a movie. I liked that two of the bedrooms and bathrooms were on the main floor for my elderly parents that can't maneuver stairs.
We would love to make the long lake lookout lodge an annual place to gather every year. It certainly is a home away from home in every aspect. Can't wait to go again!
My hubby and I traveled 13 hours from Lancaster, PA to join our family for a Labor Day weekend family reunion. What a beautiful setting for reuniting with our family this year. Mom and Dad are in their 80's and they were right at home in a bedroom on the main floor. Their was plenty of privacy for all 11 of us and our son and his fiance didn't mind sacking out on the hide-a-beds in the main living area. Even during the big thunderstorm that passed through one night, we felt secure knowing that our new car was tucked away safe from hale damage in one of the two car garages. It was really nice have two well equipped kitchens and all the girls conributed favorite recipes for wonderful meals out on the deck. It was so nice to congregate out on the spacious deck and around the campfire at night. We appreciated having both gas and charcoal grills on the lower level under the deck. We always had cell phone reception, and I vamped up the classic rock music from my Pandora under the stars at night. What fun listening to commercial free classic rock and reminiscing with my brother and sister while gazing at the BIG DIPPER. There was plenty to do, even when it rained. The ping pong/pool table was a great source of evening and rainy day entertainment. 2 cable TV's with DVD players were great when you felt like veging out with a bag popcorn after a day on the lake. One night there was a chic flick playing on one TV and some wilderness survival show on the other TV. It doesn't get any better than that. The beautifully landscaped grounds we're perfect for fun in the sun. It was very convenient having a wash machine and dryer on the main level and their was no problem with "Michigan MUCK" out at the dock. We spotted a bald eagle pirched high up in a tree and a blue heron scoping the water's edge for its morning meal. The Canadian Geese and the solitary loon diving for her dinner created the perfect backdrop for a relaxing and memorable time with our precious family. We'll be back in 2015. Oh yes there are lots of fish in the lake so don't forget your fishing tackel and rod.
This house was awesome. The pictures and description were 100% accurate. Anytime I had questions I emailed Tom and he responded quickly. We had 5 families and there was lots of room for everyone. If you are looking for a great house with plenty of space and want a relaxing vacation you won't be disappointed. The only negative is the swimming area in front of the house. There is a lot of "Michigan Muck" by the beach and dock and it would be nice if it had more sand. However, it didn't take away from our vacation.
What a wonderful setting for our annual family reunion. The large backyard and beach area were wonderful for the kids. I hold back for an excellent review due to one MAJOR exception; there is NO dryer. We happened to be vacationing during a very sunny and warm week. This meant that the clothes dried fairly quickly on the clothes line. However, it was alot of extra work on vacation that we did not plan on. Also, if the weather would have been rainy what would we have done? Spending time at a laundry mat during vacation is not an option. It is a shame for such a lovely home not to have a dryer. Could your consider installing the unit?
Our stay at the Long lake lookout lodge this past summer was very nice. We had anywhere from 10 - 14 people at any given time and never felt cramped. The house is very spacious and well kept.
Pro's - size and condition of property was very good, 2 sides (duplex) to provide for separation when needed - 2 of everything including kitchen, owner was helpful and reliable in all transactions, size of deck and view was awesome, eagle watching in the morning, nice large yard.
Con's - a little too close to next door neighbors, beds are only average, neighbors dog used this property for her bathroom daily
Our large family (group of 16) has spent the last 18 years traveling over the 4th of July week, in various places throughout Michigan. The Long Lake Lookout Lodge is by far the most comfortable, spacious and well equipped property we have stayed at. The home is lovely, in excellent condition, and had plenty of space for our family to dine, relax, play games, and sleep comfortably. The covered deck was wonderful - room enough for us all to eat together daily! The ceiling fans on the deck were a nice bonus, too.
We brought plenty of games, and there was room enough for volleyball, bean bags, croquet and more. We spent most evenings at the firepit down by the water. The walkout basement area gave us plenty of room for indoor fun other evenings, and the two living room areas were plenty big for watching a movie at night. Having two kitchens was terrific; made feeding a big group easy!
We shopped at the grocery store in Hale - maybe 10 minutes away. There is also a small party store close by, and we did pick up a few grocery items there too. We ventured over to Tawas City one day - there is a Super Wal-Mart there, and we picked up groceries there mid-week. We spent a few hours looking at the shops in Tawas and had a great lunch in town too.
The two garages at the property were such a help, too - we were able to store a lot of our "toys" and extra supplies there throughout the week. We kept a car in each garage, and it freed up space in the driveway for us - we were able to park seven cars comfortably.
We found a great park across the lake, with a swimming area, sand volleyball court and grills/picnic tables, etc. We would go there and hang out for swimming, as the swimming is pretty weedy at the property. A boat definitely enhances the experience, as you can get out on the lake and check out the swimming areas. There is a sand bar where lots of boaters hang out, and it was fun.
There were ceiling fans in the bedrooms, which were great on those warm nights. We brought several room fans, too, and found those helpful. The bedrooms were very comfortable, with lots of storage - great closet space!
The owner was very easy to deal with, answering our questions in advance very quickly. He came over to meet us at the property and we enjoyed visiting with him. We would not hesitate to recommend him, and this property - the home is absolutely beautiful, and so spacious!
The Long Lake Lookout Lodge is located 30 minutes west of East Tawas, Mi. Perfect location for day trips to Mackinaw Island, Shopping at Tawas, the outlet mall in West Branch or exploring the Fireman's Monument in Roscommon, Mi. Also near by Higgins and Houghton Lakes.
