THE PERFECT LOCATION FOR A SCOTTISH SEASIDE ESCAPE - Rose Cottage is perfectly located in idyllic countryside in the gorgeous East Neuk of Fife. Within walking distance from each of the quaint historic coastal villages of Crail and Kingsbarns and only 9 miles (15 minutes by car/bus) from the beautiful seaside and University town of St Andrews. Year round this is a magical corner of Scotland’s east coast (“Neuk” means corner in old Scots) which is renowned for sunshine, gorgeous unspoilt beaches, nature and coastal walks, quaint fishing villages, world-class golf, art, great food (much of it grown locally) and a busy calendar of events. Two excellent tourist attractions, the new Kingsbarns Distillery and the gardens at the Cambo Estate, are both visible from Rose Cottage and just a short walk away.
EAST NEUK TIME - The pace of life is just a little slower in the East Neuk of Fife, which makes it ideal for a relaxing holiday. Short breaks at Rose Cottage are always lovely throughout the year but to really unwind and let the place work its magical we would recommend spending at least a week here.
Rose cottage owner, Sara is "The East Neuk Blogger". She hails from the west of Scotland but followed the sun east! Sara loves setting off with her trusty camera to find exciting new things to share with visitors to the East Neuk and St Andrews area on her blog - which was recently featured in New York Magazine.
Sara and her husband fell in love with Rose Cottage as soon as they saw it - walking through the door instantly relaxed them from their busy city lives and standing in the living room looking one way to the sea and the other way to the amazing garden just blew them away. Drinking a coffee in beautiful Crail after the viewing, while sitting outdoors looking across the sea to the Isle of May, it was hard to believe they were just an hour and 20 minutes drive from Edinburgh. They were in no doubt that they'd found Scottish holiday heaven!
Since then they've changed the interior decor considerably to make it a luxurious coastal holiday cottage while retaining all the relaxed, rural charm it had before. Spending time sitting in the garden room, looking out to the garden with a cuppa or a wee tipple or watching the amazing sunsets and sea views out front is always magical. Sara loves it when guests get to enjoy these things too!
Sara purchased this cottage in 2010
The pace of life is just a little slower in the East Neuk of Fife, which makes it ideal for a relaxing holiday. Walking along beautiful beaches, enjoying delicious local food and drink, exploring quaint fishing villages and trying to perfect your golf swing make for happy holidays. Short breaks at Rose Cottage are always lovely throughout the year but to really unwind and let the place work its magical I would recommend spending at least a week here.
Lots of hard work, applying a passionate attention to every little detail, has gone into making Rose Cottage a luxurious rural retreat and home from home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage and wished that we had booked for longer. The cottage was beautifully presented, very stylish and in such a peaceful location. The garden is lovely.Thank you for the delicious selection of goodies that were waiting for us, most thoughtful. Would love to visit again in the summer time and be able to enjoy your garden.
From all the cottages we have seen so far, this is our absolute favorite. The cottage has everything you need. It's clean, it's cosy, it is excellent decorated and has a beautiful garden. We spend here a week with a family of 5.
In the surroundings there are many things to do
The small fisher harbors are very beautiful. The tearoom in Crail provides delicious tea and scones. The small terrace outside was our favorite place, from here there is a beautiful view over the sea.
St Andrews is much larger with several restaurants. The distillery Kingsbarns is a visit worth. They do not yet bottle their own whiskey, as they have to wait 2 more years, but they sell some very good whisky. Further there are nice gardens in Combo estate and for excitement there is the chain walk or the secret bunker. Overall lot of things to do in the area
Sara, the owner shared a lot of information in advance about the cottage, the surroundings and how to find the location, We were very well prepared and appreciate to have this personal contact.
We hope we will be back soon
A lovely tranquil setting with fabulous views of the sea. Very clean and comfortable. Lovely personal touches and attention to detail.
Lovely welcome tray - A real home from home.
Fabulous garden room overlooking a large nice secure garden, that's ideal for children and pets.
After a couple of days we had to keep one of our cats indoors as I think she had found where she wanted to spend the rest of her life.
We really struggled to get her in and was worried we would have to leave her at Rose Cottage.
Do visit the Waterfront in Anstruther for lovely food and service. It was lovely to meet Sara and Rosie whilst we were there.
Edinburgh, Dundee and Perth are all about an hour away from the cottage and are well worth a visit.
St. Andrews only fifteen minutes drive away with lots of nice shops and places to eat.
The only negative about our stay was the un-made road with pot holes that leads to the cottage from the main road as my car sits quite low.
The Dawson Family- August 2016
A very comfortable and clean property, with everything provided. A very comfy bed, comfy seating, a lovely garden room overlooking a large garden which is nice and secure for pets. Lots of books, DVDs and games to use. All in all a good place to stay
Rose Cottage is as pretty&idyllic as it sounds. From the moment we pulled up outside, we knew that it was special. The presentation of the cottage is beautiful& everything is spot on. It is immaculate & spacious& has everything that you could possibly think of- plus more. The personal touches- which mean so much- made our stay even more enjoyable. The rooms are all spacious and very comfortable indeed. The garden is beautiful - full of amazing wild flowers & totally safe and enclosed, which was perfect for our children & 2 dogs to roam freely& explore safely. There was nothing that we didn't like about our stay- only that we had to leave! The area is also equally as stunning, incredible golden sandy beaches, stretching for miles. So much to do & see& fabulous shops full of fresh produce, beautiful paintings& fantastic rustic pottery. It gets a massive thumbs up from all of us- we were very sad to leave & most definitely plan on returning. Thank you Sara& family for making us so welcome & at home in your gorgeous cottage! A real home from home & a treasure we are so pleased that we found
We were most impressed with Rose Cottage - we had a delightful stay. The cottage felt very welcoming and we appreciated the little extras.
Sara was extremely helpful. We would be happy to stay again and would highly recommend to others.
Rose Cottage is a everything you could ask for in a holiday home. The cottage is beautifully decorated, warm, luxurious, and very well equipped. There was nothing that we needed to buy/bring with us because everything was provided. The views from all the rooms and the garden were so picturesque. It was a joy to return to the cottage every day after our travels. We had some very disappointing weather during our easter break however, we tried to make the most of it. We visited Cambo country estate, Crail harbour, St Andrews botanic gardens, St Andrews castle, Elie beach, Pittenweem chocolate shop, Anstruther fisheries museum, Craigtoun country park and Cupar deer park. I'd highly recommend all of these attractions. We enjoyed visiting the local farm shops and sampling the local produce. The owners of Rose Cottage had kindly provided us with local cheese and eggs which were delicious. We also tried the Eden Mill gin and local whiskey provided and again they were not a disappointment. For meals out the 'Inn at Lathones' was a delight. Overall it was a wonderful holiday that could only have been improved if the weather was nicer. We will hopefully return again soon.
