Of course, the cottage includes a fully equipped kitchenette, linens and baths. On the property you’ll have access to a sandy beach, kayaks, a canoe and 2 paddleboats. The iboat launch is just a short drive around the corner and you will have use of our dock. You will find plenty to do including visiting arts and crafts shops and New Hampshire’s famous “Antique Alley”. Northwood is central to many of the New Hampshire activities you want including the White Mountains, Lakes Region and the Atlantic Ocean. You’ll want to finish your day at some of the greatest restaurants around, including those in either Portsmouth or Concord!
The Cottages at Harvey Lake are located in the center of one of the 5 GREAT DRIVES in America, as featured on the cover of ENDLESS VACATION MAGAZINE. (The other great drives are in Hawaii, Missouri, New Mexico, and Washington).
We purchased this property a about 7 years ago with the intent of using it as both a retreat for ourselves and something that we could share with others. We lived in Londonderry and both worked full-time jobs (Lee is a pharmacist, Nancy is recently retired from the Postal Service), We just moved to Northwood this year. We purchased the Moonlight Maple Farm next door and have had a great time turning it into our home. This lake property allows us a release from the day to day activities. Since moving in we feel that we have come home to our own gettaway and look forward to our next boat ride, swim in the beach, or cookout. We've enjoyed many gathering with old friends and new and find Harvey Lake to be the best place anywhere to make our new memories!
Nancy or Lee Carver purchased this cottage in 2007
We chose Harvey Lake because of it's central location to the Mountains, Lakes Region, Portsmouth and Concord. You can't find a nicer location if you want to take advantage of all that New Hampshire has to offer. Our home is located in the center of 'Antique Alley'. New Hampshire is rich with history, so having a chance to take a look at many of the items used at any of the 100+ shops is a lot of fun to us. Perhaps the most important reason we chose this property was the size of the lake. Harvey Lake is just 125 acres. This is large enough to use a powerboat, yet small enough to feel comfortable using a kayak or canoe. The larger lakes often have large amounts of boating traffic. In the years we've had the property, it's rare to see more than 3 boats on the lake at a time. It's absolutely fantastic!
Harvey Lake is located nearly center between the ocean (Portsmouth), the State Capital (Concord) and the largest lake in the state (Winnipesaukee). On the property you can have a campfire, go boating, fishing, swimming or just relaxing in the sun! Nearby you'll find great hiking and areas for the family picnic lunch. Later in the day, take a short trip to buy lobsters or visit many of the fine resteraunts.
We had a fantastic time! 18 family members stayed in the "big old wonderful house" (and had room to turn around!) We canoed, kayaked, swam, grilled, ordered steamed lobsters locally, had smores by the camp fire, took naps on the swing, sat peacefully by the lake and vowed to return and do all it again! Family came from Florida, Ohio, South Carolina, Maine and New Hampshire for a reunion and the Cottages at Harvey Lake was the perfect setting.
Thank You, our gracious hosts, Lee and Nancy. This is your warning...we're coming back!!
We went to the lake for a long weekend, Friday to Monday with our two dogs. The cabin had everything we needed, we got a one bedroom cabin (pink), and the dogs seemed to feel right at home as well. Saturday was fun for the dogs, playing with the owner's boxer and going canoeing to the island. The place was booked out Saturday night and Sunday night, so the larger group took over the beach area with the children, but we still snuck in a quick swim for the dogs. The owners were great and quick to answer any questions. The kayaking was great, and it was easy to access the boats to use whenever we wanted. The price was very reasonable and it was just right for a weekend away, on the lake.
"This is our 3rd year renting at the Cottages at Harvey Lake. We have a fantastic time everytime, and it keeps on getting better.. The owners of the place will bend over backwards to ensue that you have a great time. We have stayed at the big house and the cottages. They all have a beautiful view of the lake. The fishing is fantastic. Our 10 year old caught 25 fish, and our neice caught the grandaddy of them all. It was huge. Great location, great fishing, quiet, and fantastic owners make this place the BEST DEAL OUT THERE!!! We will be there once again next year!!
Thank you for accommadating my daughter and her family. The pink cottage is truly on the lake. We spent much time on the screened porch with the lake breeze blowing in as we watched the Egret fly about on a daily basis.
They will be back up in September. This was as quaint as you get. Very quiet even with other cabins around.
To put your toes in the water within feet of walking out of your cabin is great especially when you have little ones.
My husband and I only live 7 miles down the road but expect to get-away here for the lake and the peacefulness that your cabins provide.
For the past 7 years, I have missed my relaxing, NH lake vacations. Now, I can't wait for my next one! I'm a native of Concord, NH and most of my family and friends are located there or nearby. This location was perfect for folks to come, hang out, enjoy the water and boats, and feast with me. Nancy and Lee keep the cottages and property neat and very clean and are very accommodating hosts, focused on making your stay the best possible. My only concern upon on arrival was traffic noise but by Sunday, it had become "white noise" because of the beauty and peacefulness of the lake. My sons, nieces, and nephews are mostly young adults. All of them started talking about what a great place/ location this would be to spend a week with family and friends.
Friday, I was sitting by the water and my heart told me I was not ready to say good-bye so I called Nancy to find out if there was a cottage available for an additional night and happily there was. The better news was on Saturday morning when my sons announced they wanted to stay that extra day, too. They weren't ready to return to their Boston area, hectic lives.
This property and location afforded me one of the best vacations with quality family time that I have had in a long time.
Thank you, Nancy and Lee!!!!
With Winter approaching all too soon, I've been reflecting on what a great time I had when I stayed here in June '09. For a little over a week my husband & I rented a cottage & my parents rented one as well. We are still remarking about what a wonderful, relaxing time we had & plan to reserve for the same time next year. Nancy & Lee are the new owners of this property & have done so many improvements & provide a great experience. (Cottages had been grossly neglected for many years prior to their recent purchase) Upon arrival, whatever may not have been completely up to par, we pointed out with immediate remedy to follow. (ie, newly installed waterheater had not been switched on, needed a broom). All the basics were provided ie, clean linens, A/C, sm. flat screen TV/DVD combo, DVD's, toiletries, dish soap, sponge, sm.microwave, stovetop, sm. refrigerator, toaster, coffemaker, mugs, plates, cutlery. This family made us feel so welcome & bent over backward to accomodate us, so rare these days. However, as another poster pointed out, if you are looking for luxurious accomodations, please, look elsewhere. But, if you are seeking simplicity & pure relaxation, in a somewhat rustic, cute little cottage, in a small encampment at lakeside, this is it. You'd be hard-pressed to find better accomodations in the area for the very affordable rates. And, if you enjoy fishing, early one morning my step dad caught a 5+ lb lg mouth bass right on shore!
Ahhh, visions of waking early to the gentle sounds of Loons with a cup of hot java in hand, watching Swallows swooping down over the lake while planning my day along with the choices of canoeing (graciously provided), fishing, swimming, lounging lakeside, a bonfire at night, S'mores (not provided) & my own little screened porch directly over the water where I can read, craft, play a game, casually entertain another couple or do absolutely nothing at all ... I can't wait to return next June!!!
Many thanks to Nancy, Lee & Adam & we look forward to staying with you again in 2010!
The cottage is located in the quaint New England town of Northwood on the waterfront. From your front porch you will not only see the water, but also a backdrop of mountains. Northwood contains the shoreline of 9 New Hampshire lakes an ponds and is only a short drive to the excitement of the seacoast or NH lakes region!
