About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Image sitting down with a glass of wine on one of the four decks while listening to the relaxing sound of water falling, in the quiet forest with no neighbors. You kick your shoes off, feeling the freedom and realize you don't want this vacation to end. Picture yourself in a robe and flip flops walking to the hot tub deck to enjoy the sunset and fabulous mountain weather.

Charmed Cottage was built in 1974. The cottage is uniquely placed on 11 acres of private land at the end of the road and at the top of the mountain. The cottage is cradled on two sides by the mountain on which it sits, the rest is 'the view'. It is located about 17 miles from downtown.

Totally renovated from top to bottom and new on the market as of April 17, 2008. This charming cottage has wood ceilings and windows galore. The windows and doors are said to be from an old mansion in Asheville. It is situated on the mountain in such a way that it never gets the direct afternoon sun which keeps it perfectly cool during summer months.

Beautiful plantings bring a bounty of floral surprises throughout the year. The natural stream and waterfall add to the beauty and relaxation of this cottage hide-away.

The cottage features four decks:

- an intimate dining deck with a spectacular view

-an intimate conversation deck with a spectacular view

- one huge deck, the size of a four car garage for group get-togethers (maybe weddings) or lazing the day away

- one large deck on a grassy knoll with 6-8 person hot tub and that spectacular view

PLEASE NOTE: Not suitable for those with knee problems or health concerns. The cottage was built in the 70's and stair risers are higher than normal and the loft stairs are steeper than normal. NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE.

The cottage also features:

~Wood burning fireplace.

~Three bedrooms & sleeping nook (sleeps 6).

~5 beds. Two king beds, two twin-size beds & luxury twin futon bed. Twin beds can be converted to king prior to your arrival. So...essentially, we can sleep 6 adults in 3 high-quality king beds with luxurious linens and one other adult/child.

~Cashmere-like robes for 6 adults.

~Refrigerator with ice-maker, a dishwasher and a new gas range & microwave.

~Two living areas: one for reading and conversation by the fire

(with that spectacular view) and the other for watching TV.

~Two dining areas: a dining counter for 6 and dining table for 4.

~We have three flat panel TV's - all with DVD player built in.

~Large collection of DVD's for your viewing pleasure.

~DirecTV Satellite TV

~Wireless high speed internet connection.

~CD Player with IPod Dock.

~Local telephone service with an answering machine.

~All furnishings are new, beautiful and luxurious.

~Two full baths (one with refinished claw foot tub and the other a modern walk-in shower) and one half bath in the loft.

~Six to eight person hot tub on the 'grassy knoll' with a spectacular year-round view.

~A kitchen with all your food preparation and serving needs available.

~Central air conditioning & heating.

About Brea Gratia & David Robinson

I love Asheville! I live in Houston and, amazingly, manage our properties easily from afar. I own Sanctuary Spa in Houston. Many of our guests tell me our cabins are 'spa-like' wonder! I look forward to the day I get to move to Asheville. I've been working on it for many years and life events get in the way. Hopefully summer of 2013...keep your fingers crossed for me/us. I am in a relationship with David Robinson for 12 years now. He has also invested in a property in Asheville. All total we have three properties - Charmed Cottage, Chalet Quietude and Woodlands Chalet.

Brea Gratia & David Robinson purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Brea Gratia & David Robinson chose Fairview

Well - I said it before - I LOVE Asheville. I want to live in Asheville. It brings joy to my heart. I love the forest, the mountains, the sunrise, the sunsets, the snow, the summer, the ever changing views from all of our cabins - you name it - I LOVE Asheville.

What makes this cottage unique

Charmed Cottage is on 11 acres and it has a stream. I love the serenity, the privacy and the huge hot tub. The house is just about all windows and you can see everywhere. The decks are awesome (3 attached to the house). Even though it is a large cottage, it is extremely intimate. It is cozy, comfortable and spacious (ha). I love that it is one mile up the road from the main road and at the top of the mountain. The property was built by a child actor who originally owned the entire mountain...wouldn't that be great - own a mountain. I love it at the Charmed Cottage.

Amazing view!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay! The hot tub was awesome, and there was so much space. I loved the downstairs renovated bathroom. I gave 4 stars because the house was on a really long, steep loose gravel road up the mountain that was a little intense for city slickers like us, lol. Anyone more adept at mountain/curve driving would be fine. Also the stairs were very steep so anyone with problems climbing stairs would have a hard time (we had someone recovering from knee surgery).

The house was about 30 minutes from downtown Asheville (Wicked Weed brewery, for reference) so it is a little trek if that is part of your plans, but it's perfect if you want to stay in and have a relaxing quiet weekend in nature and enjoy the hot tub under the stars.

Owner's Response: Lindsay We're so happy you enjoyed your stay. The large hot tub is definitely a plus on the deck with that great, amazing view. The cottage is located at the top of the mountain and that affords the fabulous view. We're sorry you missed the part in our cottage description about the stairs - "PLEASE NOTE: Not suitable for those with knee problems or health concerns. The cottage was built in the 70's and stair risers are higher than normal and the loft stairs are steeper than normal. NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE." We hope your guest was not too inconvenienced by the stairs and was able to go up and down with no or little pain. We totally understand knee surgery and how stairs can be difficult. We've both had surgery on our knees. We always want to make sure the cottage is suitable for all. Thanks again Lindsay - We do hope you come again. Brea

Completely Charmed

  • 5 of 5

We just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed the Charmed Cottage and how fitting its name! We were happily surprised the second we walked in the door. We actually had a long road trip back to Minnesota after we stayed there so this is exactly what we needed to relax before the long journey. The only down fall was we only had 2 days…we wished we had time for more!! The owner, Brea, was more than helpful with everything and even saved the day for us when we left because we needed some concert tickets printed. She came through with flying colors!!

As for the 4-bedroom Cottage…WOW…with 2-large baths and a 3rd one up in the loft. Our favorite that we took full advantage of was the outdoor hot tub overlooking the mountains was literally breathtaking and so peaceful!! Loved the tables on the deck down by the hot tub that made you feel like you were in a foreign city eating your breakfast with the sunrise.

The cottage was wonderfully decorated including high end comfortable furnishings that made you feel like royalty and the kitchen had all the amenities to create a gourmet meal. We actually grilled out on the largest of 4-decks that was so big we wished we had booked a band! We talked about how we would love to come back in the cooler months to enjoy the fireplace…both inside and out! What a lovely place and the price was amazingly affordable. The feeling of escaping to the mountains was wonderful and the three of us truly felt on top of the world at 3300-ft altitude.

Thank you and you will see us again along with our friends and family we’ve already told in person and all over social media with spectacular photos!

Owner's Response: Kian - it was great to read you fabulous review. I have to say it was so much fun having the three of you as my guest. It all started with your text the evening you arrived "This is the nicest place we've ever seen, how beautiful to be on top of the world!" Can you imagine how wonderful it was to read that text. It was also fun that you allowed me to joke with you - that was a lot of fun. When Rick wrote and requested a place to print the tickets, it was easy for me to say I could do that for you. It gave me an opportunity to meet you before you headed out of town. That was a lot of fun, spending a little time talking to you. So glad you enjoyed your stay at the Cottage and I do hope you come stay again. Brea

Charmed Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay at Charmed Cottage. It was very quiet, and relaxing. The beds and furniture were very comfortable. The cabin was stocked with anything that you could possibly need during your trip. We loved sitting on the porch in the morning, having our coffee, and enjoying our spectacular mountain view. The best part was the hot tub view and star gazing at night. We just loved loved our stay at this cabin! This cabin was close to everything that we wanted to do durin our trip. We would be very interested in staying here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Hilary. We loved having you as our guest and do certainly hope you come again. We are happy you found everything you needed and made use of it all. The view is amazing and especially on the hot tub deck. I'm glad you enjoyed the night sky - it is also amazing in the country with no city lights to dilute nature. No noise and no city lights - how great is that!!!! Thanks again - please stay in touch. Brea

Yes, the view is breathtaking and the cottage is quirky and comfortable. I'm so glad you came and hope to hear from you again. Charmed Cottage is all that and more. Warm, welcoming and charming.

  • 5 of 5

Brea and David have thought of every detail. Charmed Cottage is charming,,,and welcoming and comfortable and tastefully decorated! Morning coffee on the balconies / spectacular vistas, privacy - all that you seek in a mountain cabin is there including comfortable seating, comfortable beds, a well placed hot tub, and a fully equipped kitchen. (We cooked Thanksgiving dinner - turkey and all of the trimmin's). If you're looking for a well appointed and relaxing and charming cabin, Charmed Cottage is your spot. It's your private cottage with your own private vistas from your own private balconies and/or hot tub. We thoroughly enjoyed Charmed Cottage. You will too!

Owner's Response: Jane - it was such a pleasure to have you spend Thanksgiving at the cottage. Having all the necessary items in the kitchen for a large meal like turkey and all the trimmin's is an important feature. I am also delighted you enjoyed the privacy, the serenity and the view! The Charmed Cottage is a fun, quirky place with unusual design which lends itself to whimsy in decorating. I love comfort and when decorating, it had to be something unusual, yet comfortable. I look forward to hearing from you again. Brea & David

Excellent, "luxury" cabin experience

  • 5 of 5

I went with three friends to stay at the Charmed Cottage and we all agreed it was an amazing experience. Brea gave very clear and straightforward instructions about how to get there (the drive up to the cabin is quite an adventure- it's a steep drive up the mountain on a gravel road, but our Mazda made it up just fine) and what to expect upon arrival. The cottage itself was beautiful. The bathrooms were equipped with fresh towels, the kitchen had everything we needed to make a home cooked meal, and there were multiple patios to enjoy the mountain air. For four people we had plenty of space. There's a little to explore outdoors around the property, but don't expect to play a game of soccer on the top of the mountain or to find any hike-able trails on the property (well there are a few hidden trails but they are short and I'd recommend wearing pants because the plants clearly grow like crazy on the mountain). The drive to Asheville is super easy (about 20-25 mins) and even getting to the nearest grocery store only took about 15 minutes. We had a blast and are planning to check out this cabin (or another of Brea's properties) in the fall when the leaves change colors. Highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Beatrice - I'm so happy you loved the cottage. It is a very charming place, full of surprises. The unique design of the structure lends itself to a fun decorating style which many find fun and amazing. The cottage is spacious as you said with two living room areas - I call one the living room and the other the reading room (but all in the same space with the huge kitchen). I hope you did cook some great home cooked meals there - with the large dining counter, it is fun to have a glass of wine, chop some greens and help the cook. Yes - the mountains do produce vegetation and with 11 acres, that's a lot of green growth. I hope you noticed how much cooler it is in the mountains as opposed to the city. It's hard to leave because it's so relaxing at the Cottage. I do hope you plan to come again as you and friends were great guests and it was my pleasure to have y'all. My best, Brea
