About the property

Les Patis

Situated in the heart of the Pays d’Auge, lower Normandy, Les Patis is the perfect place to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The area is renowned for its rolling hills, half-timbered houses and gentle way of life where long, leisurely lunches under a shady tree or in a little cafe are an integral part of the day.

At Les Patis, guests can relax by the large, heated outdoor swimming pool which includes a hot tub, play tennis or go fishing on our well stocked private lake. Bicycles are also available for those that wish to go for a ride to take in the delightful scenery. You can spend your days relaxing, picnicking by the River Vie or venturing further afield.

The pretty town of Vimoutiers is less than one mile away that has an array of shops and restaurants including a small supermarket. Twice a week the town holds a traditional market, where you can sample delicious local produce, however for good, solid Norman cooking, visit one of the area’s fermes auberges (working farms) which welcomes paying visitors to share their meals.

The lush diary pastures of the Pays d' Auge are responsible for the world famous cheeses of Camembert, Livarot and Pont l’ Eveque which are intermingled with apple and pear orchards yielding the best of Norman ciders. You can discover how the famous cheeses are made at the cheese dairy at Livarot or unveil the secrets of producing cider at one of the many distilleries along the Cider Route.

The area is also renowned for its stud farms that breed some of the finest thoroughbred horses in the world. You can admire the natural beauty of the Pays d’Auge from horseback or visit one of the many stud farms to learn the tradition of rearing racing horses.

For the history buffs, Vimoutiers boasts to having one of the last remaining Tiger I tanks from WWII. Additionally, Mont-Ormel memorial is a 10 minute drive from away. The memorial is dedicated to the servicemen of WWII who gave their lives during the Battle of Falaise. It has exceptional views over the La Dives valley where the battle took place including an interactive museum.

If modern day history isn’t your forte, then why not visit the birthplace of William the Conqueror at the Chateau de Falaise, approximately a 30 minute drive from Les Patis. Exceptional for the whole family to enjoy, tourists can wander the fully restored castle using handheld tablets to take you back to what life was like in 12th and 13th Century Normandy.

Further a field, the Normandy Beaches of the historical D-Day landings including other WWII sites are an easy drive from here. Bayeux with its magnificent hand worked tapestry, majestic Cathedral and many restaurants, is less than one hour away. Monet's House and Gardens at Giverney, though a little further, are a memorable way to spend a day. Honfleur with its charming fishing port, surrounded by first class seafood restaurants, is also very close.

Nature sport enthusiasts will find plenty to amuse them in La Suisse Normande from hiking, mountain-biking, paragliding, climbing and canoeing. Additionally, the open-air leisure base in Pont d’Ouilly offers, among other activities, the possibility to paddle down the River Orne, which is a great day out for all the family.

However, there is plenty to do without even leaving the grounds of Les Patis; the choice is yours. Come and enjoy, relax and unwind in the lovely 'garden of France', the Pays d'Auge.

Lovely spot shame about the weather

  • 5 of 5

The property, facilities and surroundings were lovely. Plenty to do in the area which was as well, as the weather was awful, meaning we couldn't take advantage of the facilities on offer. The property itself was charming and very comfortable / well equipped

Absolutely stunning

  • 5 of 5

Just back after an amazing time staying in the quite stunning surroundings of Tony and Pats grounds. The accommodation was lovely and both the pool and hot tub well used by my 7 and 8 year old kids. Tony is very attentive without being intrusive and is very respectful of the fact it's your property for the duration of your holiday whilst at the same time being on hand should you need to know anything! This is a must visit place with decent surroundings however if your anything like us you will enjoy sitting by the pool just relaxing. Only small complaint I had was it was a little dark down at the pool late on however this was hardly an issue. Great value and a perfect getaway spot.

A quiet corner of rural Normandy

  • 5 of 5

Les Epiciers is a well-appointed, comfortable, one bedroomed apartment situated close to the pool and hot-tub. The accommodation has been renovated to a high standard by the current owners.

Vimoutiers (the nearest small town) is archetypal provincial France having boulangeries, restaurants, fishmonger etc.

Les Patis is within a short drive of Falaise (castle closely associated with Willian The Conqueror), and Lisieux (basilica / cathedral / shopping).

The property is situated off a quiet lane to the south of Vimoutiers, and a few miles from Camembert.

Love it

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed several times, which must be a review in itself. Les Epicieas is an ideal retreat for me as a writer, but of course it is ideally for a couple (I believe it can also accommodate a family of 4). Everything is well ordered and cared for, comfortable and on hand. But it'ss the peaceful aspect of this particular gite which appeals to me the most. During the summer months it may be a little noiser, due to being near the (excellent) outdoor heated pool - but then again, so very convenient for your morning or evening dip! Outside of the main holiday period it is a refuge, surrounded by the same beautiful gardens and landscape. There is a walk I particuarily enjoy taking you through the meadows to the river (all within the grounds). Also, it must be said that Tony and Pat are the perfect hosts, attentive and sensitive to those needing help or those needing seculsion. The surrounding countryside, the Pays d'Auge, is superb, and in all directions. Think west Dorset, only more luxuriant. Vimoutiers, the nearest town suffered in the war (the nearby memorial of the Tiger tank adds to the proof), however, is convenient for traditional bread, local fish and groceries. Les Patis, as a whole, enjoys a wide range of facilities - something for all ages and interests - and as a location I would say it's ideal as a springboard for all the major Bass Normandie tourist attractions. Or, of course, you might just like to wander aorund the local countryside and remember what England was like, say, 40 years ago.

Normandy is a beautiful region of France, easily accessible from the United Kingdom and yet a world away. It is a verdant land of delightful scenery, little colombage cottages nestling in the hills, friendly local people and of course delicious food and wine. The pace of life is slow, long leisurely lunches under a shady tree or in a little restaurant are an integral part of the day. The cheeses of the region are legendary and are named after many of our local towns Livarot, Pont L’Eveque. The village of Camembert is just 2 miles away. The North Coast with its golden sands and elegant seafront promenade is a pleasant drive away.
