About the property

Les Patis

Situated in the heart of the Pays d’Auge, lower Normandy, Les Patis is the perfect place to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The area is renowned for its rolling hills, half-timbered houses and gentle way of life where long, leisurely lunches under a shady tree or in a little cafe are an integral part of the day.

At Les Patis, guests can relax by the large, heated outdoor swimming pool which includes a hot tub, play tennis or go fishing on our well stocked private lake. Bicycles are also available for those that wish to go for a ride to take in the delightful scenery. You can spend your days relaxing, picnicking by the River Vie or venturing further afield.

The pretty town of Vimoutiers is less than one mile away that has an array of shops and restaurants including a small supermarket. Twice a week the town holds a traditional market, where you can sample delicious local produce, however for good, solid Norman cooking, visit one of the area’s fermes auberges (working farms) which welcomes paying visitors to share their meals.

The lush diary pastures of the Pays d' Auge are responsible for the world famous cheeses of Camembert, Livarot and Pont l’ Eveque which are intermingled with apple and pear orchards yielding the best of Norman ciders. You can discover how the famous cheeses are made at the cheese dairy at Livarot or unveil the secrets of producing cider at one of the many distilleries along the Cider Route.

The area is also renowned for its stud farms that breed some of the finest thoroughbred horses in the world. You can admire the natural beauty of the Pays d’Auge from horseback or visit one of the many stud farms to learn the tradition of rearing racing horses.

For the history buffs, Vimoutiers boasts to having one of the last remaining Tiger I tanks from WWII. Additionally, Mont-Ormel memorial is a 10 minute drive from away. The memorial is dedicated to the servicemen of WWII who gave their lives during the Battle of Falaise. It has exceptional views over the La Dives valley where the battle took place including an interactive museum.

If modern day history isn’t your forte, then why not visit the birthplace of William the Conqueror at the Chateau de Falaise, approximately a 30 minute drive from Les Patis. Exceptional for the whole family to enjoy, tourists can wander the fully restored castle using handheld tablets to take you back to what life was like in 12th and 13th Century Normandy.

Further a field, the Normandy Beaches of the historical D-Day landings including other WWII sites are an easy drive from here. Bayeux with its magnificent hand worked tapestry, majestic Cathedral and many restaurants, is less than one hour away. Monet's House and Gardens at Giverney, though a little further, are a memorable way to spend a day. Honfleur with its charming fishing port, surrounded by first class seafood restaurants, is also very close.

Nature sport enthusiasts will find plenty to amuse them in La Suisse Normande from hiking, mountain-biking, paragliding, climbing and canoeing. Additionally, the open-air leisure base in Pont d’Ouilly offers, among other activities, the possibility to paddle down the River Orne, which is a great day out for all the family.

However, there is plenty to do without even leaving the grounds of Les Patis; the choice is yours. Come and enjoy, relax and unwind in the lovely 'garden of France', the Pays d'Auge.

Fabulous setting with everything you would want

  • 5 of 5

The property itself was fantastic, it had a nice rustic feel to it and was surrounded by a woodland setting. The barbecue area was to the corner of the property with a large seating area (very private). The pool was very big and the jacuzzi easy to use. Inside the property the bedrooms were very comfortable and the living room space was large. All facilities were in good shape and the English TV a plus for the evenings!

The host was lovely and the tour of the property area very explanatory. I have to say that it was very well situated to the local village and sights. Do not forget to visit the local museum "Memorial de Montormel"; small, but one of the best for information on the battle that turned the tide of World War 2.

We would absolutely return to this property.

Les Chenes - May 2017

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the week at Les Patis. The cottage was absolutely fantastic, with Tony and Pat being great hosts. Weather was great too, very warm, which made the outdoor heated pool and Jacuzzi even more tempting! I also enjoyed time fishing on their lake and caught quite a lot of nice Carp! I have rented lots of Gites in Normandy over many years and can say hand on heart this is one of, if not the best, we've had the pleasure of staying at. Location is very quiet, little noise, yet only 2 mins down the road to Vimoutiers. I can't recommend this site enough, stay, you will not be disappointed. We're actually going back later this year!

Rural Normandy with all mod-cons

  • 5 of 5

Les Chenes is a spacious (both inside and outside), well-presented, detached house. The accommodation has been renovated to a high standard, and has all necessary for dining indoors or ‘al fresco’.

Les Patis is set in a quiet, very pretty corner of rural Normandy, Camembert being very close. The property is within peddling distance of Vimoutiers which has at least four boulangeries! Falaise (worth a visit for the castle alone) and Lisieux (good for basilica / cathedral / shopping) are a short drive away.

The owners (UK ex-pats) were extremely welcoming, and did everything possible to make our stay as pleasant as possible

We have stayed at Les Patis twice now and would thoroughly recommend.

Normandy is a beautiful region of France, easily accessible from the United Kingdom and yet a world away. It is a verdant land of delightful scenery, little colombage cottages nestling in the hills, friendly local people and of course delicious food and wine. The pace of life is slow, long leisurely lunches under a shady tree or in a little restaurant are an integral part of the day. The cheeses of the region are legendary and are named after many of our local towns Livarot, Pont L’Eveque. The village of Camembert is just 2 miles away. The North Coast with its golden sands and elegant seafront promenade is a pleasant drive away.
