About the property

Les Patis

The cottage is one of five gites on the Les Patis estate set in eight acres of private gardens. Located in the heart of the Pays d’Auge, lower Normandy, the area is renowned for its rolling hills, half-timbered houses and gentle way of life. The area is also steeped in history and tradition. From the atrocities of WWII, to its famous gastronomic products of cheese and cider, to the many stud farms that surround the area.

Activities at Les Patis include a large and heated communal swimming pool with an outdoor hot tub for adults, a tennis court with basketball ring, table-tennis and bicycles to explore the local area. Fishing on our own private lake will yield large and healthy carp, tench and roach; no license is required. Additionally, guests can take a stroll within the grounds taking in the natural beauty or enjoy a leisurely picnic by the River Vie that borders Les Patis.

The pretty town of Vimoutiers is less than one mile away that has an array of shops and restaurants including a small supermarket. Twice a week the town holds a traditional market were you can sample the delicious local produce. The small village of Camembert, the birthplace of the famous Camembert cheese, is just two miles away and the Graindorge cheese dairy at Livarot is less than six miles. Vimoutiers also boasts to having one of the last remaining Tiger I tanks in France from WWII and the Mont-Ormel memorial, dedicated to the servicemen who gave their lives during the Battle of Falaise, is just a 10 minute drive away. Furthermore, just a 30 minute drive from Les Patis is the birthplace of William the Conqueror at the Chateau de Falaise and the French National Stud, Haras national du Pin.

Further a field, the Normandy Beaches of the historical D-Day landings, including other WWII sites, are an easy drive from here. Bayeux with its magnificent hand worked tapestry, majestic Cathedral and many restaurants, is less than one hour away and the charming fishing port of Honfleur, surrounded by first class seafood restaurants, is also very close.

Yet, there is plenty to do without even leaving the grounds of Les Patis; the choice is yours. Come and enjoy, relax and unwind in the lovely 'garden of France'.

What makes this cottage unique

Close to channel ports, quiet with very good local facilities, excellent on site facilities, extreamly comfortable accomodation.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The gite forms part of an estate surrounded by mature trees. There are 3 other gites on site as well as the owners. Les Roses was perfect for us and easily accommodated our large group. The gite and the grounds are beautifully well kept by the owners Tony and Pat as are the pool and hot tub. This is an ideal spot for families.

Lovely accommodation in an attractive location

  • 4 of 5

Les Roses is a lovingly converted dwelling which comfortable accommodated our family of seven.

It is well equipped with a rustic feel to decor. However, the DVD control was missing & the portable radio CD player was not working.

The pool, hot tub and sporting facilities were ideal and it never felt overcrowded despite sharing them with three other families (note a forth property conversion is planned for 2018). Our only observation was that the pool area required better lighting for evening entertainment. The lake is well stocked, but ensure you take your own equipment.

The location is relaxing whilst offering a number of local attractions to visit in the Normandy region. The local village is a pleasant walk/cycle ride away.

The owners, Tony & Pat, were friendly and helpful with any queries that arose during our stay.

Overall, we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and happily recommend it to others.

Owner's Response: We are pleased you had an enjoyable stay, the DVD and CD player are not part of our standard equipment, and where only in the property as the previous occupier asked if we could supply one, ( we should have removed them before your stay)., sorry you found the lack of remote a problem. We are very excited with regards to our new Gate planned for 2018, it will offer our future clients an excellent facilities in a detached stone 3 bedroom cottage beside the Lake, yet only a short stole from the very large heated swimming pool, tennis courts. We take note of you other observations, the external lighting around the pool is on a manual switch, as the hot tub and pool are closed before it go dark this time of year, we did not think it necessary to put them on, we will endeavour to change this to some form of automatic lighting asap. We are clear with regards to equipment and ask all guest to bring there own fishing rods, tennis rackets, table tennis bats and the like, there is some equipment for free use, but generally this is equipment left by other guests. We thank you for your review and hope to see you in the future. Tony and Pat

Nice stay, wonderful location and welcoming owners

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Les Frenes which was just refurbished that time. It was fresh and clean and enough space! The swimming pool and the hottub were very good for relaxing. Also the surrounding is great and the lake at the property is fun. Pat & Kirby were very hospitable and helpful during our stay.

Some great sites to visit: Falaise (esp. the Castle), the WWII Memorial Museum at Mont-Ormel, Camembert and Cerza Parc des Safaris (Lisieux).

A lovely Normandy setting near the ferry ports.

A fabulous gite in a beautiful setting, it has recently been upgraded and is perfect for a large group. The pool and hot tub were fantastic and the property, gardens and grounds are well maintained. Tony and Pat were great hosts and we loved Jessie the dog. We had our own outside space and enjoyed barbecues with all the family. Will be back next year.

We really enjoyed our stay at Les Roses. It's a well equipped and very charming old building, located in a green oasis of piece and quiet. The living space is large and comfortable. The huge domain is a perfect place to let your kids run around, that is if you can get the out of the well maintained pool and spa.

Before the holiday I was a little nervous about having other tenants in the same building, but it was not a problem at all. We never heard any noise inside and every unit has its own private outdoor area. With only 4 units on the domain, it just never gets too busy around the pool either.

Les Roses is for 10 people, but make sure to do the maths beforehand - it has only 3 bedrooms which sleeps 3, 3, and 2. I'd say it's perfect for 2 couples with 3-4 kids. It only fits 10 people if you use the sofa bed in the living room. There were 7 of us, so that was fine.

Tony and Pat live on the domain and are always around and helpful if you need anything.

The area is very non-touristy, yet very beautiful. Great price/quality balance.

Normandy is a beautiful region of France, easily accessible from the United Kingdom and yet a world away. It is a verdant land of delightful scenery, little colombage cottages nestling in the hills, friendly local people and of course delicious food and wine. The pace of life is slow, long leisurely lunches under a shady tree or in a little restaurant are an integral part of the day. The cheeses of the region are legendary and are named after many of our local towns Livarot, Pont L’Eveque. The village of Camembert is just 2 miles away. The North Coast with its golden sands and elegant seafront promenade is a pleasant drive away.
