About the property

Les Patis

Situated in the heart of the Pays d’Auge, lower Normandy, Les Patis is the perfect place to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The area is renowned for its rolling hills, half-timbered houses and gentle way of life where long, leisurely lunches under a shady tree or in a little cafe are an integral part of the day.

At Les Patis, guests can relax by the large, heated outdoor swimming pool which includes a hot tub, play tennis or go fishing on our well stocked private lake. Bicycles are also available for those that wish to go for a ride to take in the delightful scenery. You can spend your days relaxing, picnicking by the River Vie or venturing further afield.

The pretty town of Vimoutiers is less than one mile away that has an array of shops and restaurants including a small supermarket. Twice a week the town holds a traditional market, where you can sample delicious local produce, however for good, solid Norman cooking, visit one of the area’s fermes auberges (working farms) which welcomes paying visitors to share their meals.

The lush diary pastures of the Pays d' Auge are responsible for the world famous cheeses of Camembert, Livarot and Pont l’ Eveque which are intermingled with apple and pear orchards yielding the best of Norman ciders. You can discover how the famous cheeses are made at the cheese dairy at Livarot or unveil the secrets of producing cider at one of the many distilleries along the Cider Route.

The area is also renowned for its stud farms that breed some of the finest thoroughbred horses in the world. You can admire the natural beauty of the Pays d’Auge from horseback or visit one of the many stud farms to learn the tradition of rearing racing horses.

For the history buffs, Vimoutiers boasts to having one of the last remaining Tiger I tanks from WWII. Additionally, Mont-Ormel memorial is a 10 minute drive from away. The memorial is dedicated to the servicemen of WWII who gave their lives during the Battle of Falaise. It has exceptional views over the La Dives valley where the battle took place including an interactive museum.

If modern day history isn’t your forte, then why not visit the birthplace of William the Conqueror at the Chateau de Falaise, approximately a 30 minute drive from Les Patis. Exceptional for the whole family to enjoy, tourists can wander the fully restored castle using handheld tablets to take you back to what life was like in 12th and 13th Century Normandy.

Further a field, the Normandy Beaches of the historical D-Day landings including other WWII sites are an easy drive from here. Bayeux with its magnificent hand worked tapestry, majestic Cathedral and many restaurants, is less than one hour away. Monet's House and Gardens at Giverney, though a little further, are a memorable way to spend a day. Honfleur with its charming fishing port, surrounded by first class seafood restaurants, is also very close.

Nature sport enthusiasts will find plenty to amuse them in La Suisse Normande from hiking, mountain-biking, paragliding, climbing and canoeing. Additionally, the open-air leisure base in Pont d’Ouilly offers, among other activities, the possibility to paddle down the River Orne, which is a great day out for all the family.

However, there is plenty to do without even leaving the grounds of Les Patis; the choice is yours. Come and enjoy, relax and unwind in the lovely 'garden of France', the Pays d'Auge.

It is a verdant land of delightful scenery, little colombage cottages nestling in the hills, friendly local people and of course delicious food and wine. The pace of life is slow, long leisurely lunches under a shady tree or in a little restaurant are an integral part of the day. The cheeses of the region are legendary and are named after many of our local towns Livarot, Pont L’Eveque. The village of Camembert is just 2 miles away. A great stay in Basse Normandie

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Les Frenes in Vimoutiers for a week. Tony and Pat were great hosts. They are always available to help you and at the same time they keep appropriate distance. The property is great with many facilities such as a swimming pool, tennis court and jacuzzi. One can also cycle, fish and row. The property covers serval thousands of square meters.

The property is clean and well equipped with modern facilities. If I would be asked whether I would return, the answer is definetely YES.

There is a lot to see in the environment ranging from the nearby Camembert to great places such as Falaise or a bit further down Caen, Bayeux or even Honfleur. If one does want to stay 'at home', then Les Patis as the whole estate is called is a great place.

Stunning location with great facilities.

  • 5 of 5

Just left today after a wonderful week. Lovely accommodation with everything you need. Tony was a great host, very helpful and knowledgable about the local area.

The swimming pool was brilliant and a decent size. The tennis courts, table tennis and fishing lake were an added bonus.

Planning our return visit.

The most beautyful outdoor area and charming properties

  • 5 of 5

The pictures of the outside area do not tell the true story of this lovely place. It is much more beautyful in real life.

You can enjoy your stay relaxing by the pool or use the bikes to check out the local area. The lake is lovely and its easy to catch a big carp.

Pat and Tony are the most lovely hosts and they are always helpful. We will definately come back.

Nice stay, wonderful location and welcoming owners

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Les Frenes which was just refurbished that time. It was fresh and clean and enough space! The swimming pool and the hottub were very good for relaxing. Also the surrounding is great and the lake at the property is fun. Pat & Kirby were very hospitable and helpful during our stay.

Some great sites to visit: Falaise (esp. the Castle), the WWII Memorial Museum at Mont-Ormel, Camembert and Cerza Parc des Safaris (Lisieux).

Rose Cottage was comfortable and cosy containing everything a party of 5 people needed to have a great holiday. Its position gave us easy access to the area to travel and explore. The property is set in beautiful well maintained gardens in which we could wander or sit and enjoy the local food and wine. As an added bonus there is a hot tub situated by the pool in which we enjoyed a couple of very relaxing evenings.

The owners Tony and Pat Kirby were great hosts, both friendly and very knowlegable about the area giving good advice on places to visit and shopping. Market day is not to be missed.

We would not hesitate to recommend a stay at Les Patis and plan to visit again this year.

Lovely location and superb accommodation

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time during our weeks stay. we were a party of 19 so we occupied all 4 cottages. The facilities are great and staying in 4 separate cottages we all had our own space as well. Kids loved the pool, tennis court and the wide open places to play. The properties are furnished to a high standard and very clean. Host are welcoming and nothing is a problem to them. We had some fantastic days out and about the local area, but what made it for us was the peaceful surroundings and wonderful gardens. a great place to spend a holiday. We WILL be returning and look forward to some more great evening spend round the pool barbecuing!!!!!
