This unique cottage on 12 acres in Brownsville is perfect for horses, mountain bikers and skiers. Or, hike, read, snowshoe or take advantage of local sites. This cottage is on the VAST trails and in a perfect location for riding on Class 3 roads or cross-country! Close to Mt. Ascutney for hikers with endless opportunities for snow shoeing or cross country skiing. We are six miles from GMHA and only 12 miles south of Woodstock Center so there is easy access to that historic area including Billings Farm, the Woodstock Inn and Queechee Gorge. We are also a short drive from Dartmouth College which affords access to all the culture and art you could desire!
The cottage is four rooms including a large living room, dining room and kitchen area and two bedrooms. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other has twin beds. There are large windows which allow day and night views of the mountains.
A field is fenced for horses and there is a very nice, large new run-in shed for two horses
The cottage is a perfect place to get away... it's quiet, peaceful and clean...we can't wait to go back!
Upon approaching the cottage there is a very nice feel. Its tucked away off a dirty road nestled in between rolling fields that provide a nice view during the day. Upon entering the property it was no warmer than the outside air. There is only one gas fireplace for heating the entire cottage. While its located in the living room, the entire room is lined with windows so sitting on the couch required a blanket slippers to keep your feet warm. The owners seemed confused about the dates we would be staying and actually showed up before 11AM on the day of departure to kick us out. Standard check out times are at 11, but usually an owner is not forcing entry into the rental while you are cleaning up and getting ready to leave. There are no blinds or curtains on the windows which made for an uncomfortable morning while Sandra and Jim lurked outside. This rental is really only suitable for the warmer months when the fireplace is not needed. Be sure to double and triple check with Sandra on the dates you will be staying and when departure time is. Jim was extremely rude when entering the cottage and even commented on the temperature, insinuating it was too warm. We enjoy renting cottages for the authentic feel and have many great experiences but will never be returning here.
We arrived to a lovely vase of welcoming flowers and personal note. This cabin is clean, cozy, very private and quiet. It was equipped with everything we needed to put together a full thanksgiving dinner. The Thanksgiving 5k turkey trot in Woodstock followed by excellent Bloody Marys at the Woodstock Inn was a great start to the Holiday! Plenty of places to go within driving distance for food, shopping and cocktails then nice to come back to this private little cabin... Thank you!
This was a great little place to stay for me, and a lovely good-sized pasture and huge run-in for my horse. A perfect place for us to easily attend an event at GMHA, but still give my horse the 24/7 turnout she's used too (she is not happy about being stalled, and GMHA stalls are not huge). The human accommodations are homey, cozy, immaculate, well-appointed, and sooo peaceful. Directions and instructions from the owner were excellent.
