FISHING - Dorado, Marlin, and Yellow-Fin Tuna: The Puerto Vallarta fishing area is located on Mexico's open, central Pacific coast at about latitude 20 degrees north. Puerto Vallarta's offshore sport fishing water temperatures range from the low-70s in February-March, to the high-80s in August-September. During the summer-fall months of June-October and into November, the peak yellowfin tuna season brings tuna of all sizes, including huge fish pushing close to the 400-pound class, to Puerto Vallarta's outer waters. Closely following as water temperatures and sea conditions stabilize from about September onwards are peak seasons for dorado (also called mahi-mahi), black marlin, blue marlin, sailfish, and wahoo. Inshore fishing for jacks, snappers, and other species is always available, with a good midsummer roosterfish run during July-August, jack crevalle peaking during February-March, and the various pargo or snapper species. Excellent fishing much of the year--especially for really huge tuna and marlin. We can make reservations

BEACHES - the best in the Bay of Banderas: Unargueably, the best beaches in the Puerto Vallarta area are on the north shore - Destiladares, Manzanilla, Sayulita, Bucerias, and San Pancho (also called San Francisco). The beaches here are endless: you could easily walk along its medium-coarse beige sands from La Cruz all the way south to Nuevo Vallarta. The surf is gentle enough for swimming but also has body-surfable waves. The best beaches for surfing and boogie boarding are Destiladares and Sayulita.

La Cruz - charming fishing village: La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is home to the new 400-slip Marina Riviera Nayarit which includes world-class fishing charters - e.g. dorado (mahi mahi), huachingo (red snapper), sailfish, and marlin. 7 Golf Courses surround Casa Parota. Along with numerous fabulous restaurants, beach clubs, and sightseeing. La Cruz is located in the center of the newly-emerging North Bay area, which extends from Bucerias to Punta Mita (home of the Four Seasons Punta Mita), and beyond to Sayulita and San Francisco (also called San Pancho). 7 Golf Courses nearby - and more golf courses being added every year. Two more courses nearby coming online at the emerging Ritz Carlton located at the new Fonatur resort area between Punta de Mita and Sayulita.

About Amy or Bill Welch

Mexico is wonderful - the first thing people ask is, 'Is it safe?' We have driven all through Mexico and have had wonderful experiences from Merida to San Miguel de Allende, the Copper Canyon, Guadalajara, Zacatecas, the Yucatan, Michoacan, Puebla, Oaxaca, and throughout the Puerto Vallarta region. Come experience the magic of Mexico - the food and people are fantastic and welcoming.

Why Amy or Bill Welch chose La Cruz de Huanacaxtle

La Cruz has so much to offer - world class fishing for marlin, mahi, rooster fish, sailfish and yellow fin tuna. Then there's always restaurants, music and meeting great people!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi Amy,

I want to express our groups great satisfaction with the property, staff and complete experience we had. It was damn right awesome, we loved the place and will definitely be back! Lalo was a magnificent asset to us during our stay. He went above and beyond to help us on numerous occasions. The meals Lupita prepared were exceptional. We didn't spend much time in the place as we fished almost all day every day but our time spent in the house quarters was amazing. We kicked some major fishing ass with Danny Gomez and friends! We left $100 for the maids and tipped the girls and Lalo extremely well, i'm sure theyll be happy to have us back lol.

Thanks for helping make this vacation one for the record books!

Thanks, Blake

Once you enter the front doors, you can't believe the privacy and special enclosed areas to sit outside. The courtyards are amazing. Privacy, seclusion, a wonderful get-away. And all overlooking the new La Cruz Marina. Great fishing! The charter fishing boats, are located just steps away below Casa Perla. We can help you with charter fishing booking. We recommend the Osuna brothers' boats - Danny, Scotty, and Alonso.

Beautiful house in a perfect location loved every minute at Casa Perla

  • 5 of 5

We went with a group of 12 people never once did it feel like we had too big of a group. Loved the layout of the house we spent most of our time in the pool and hot tub. The house was beautiful nice linens and great kitchen for cooking meals. We enjoyed the market down on Sunday and fresh fish from the marina. Can’t wait for my next stay at Casa Perla.

Excellent Accomodations and Subperb staff!

  • 5 of 5

9 of us stayed here while we fished La Cruz for a week. We loved every part of this property. The sleeping quarters are spread out brilliantly for getting some privacy with master bathroom suites attached and numerous outlaying patio areas. The main kitchen/dining/entertainment room was plenty spacious for all of us to lounge around, cook and eat in. The entire property was furnished throughout with new appliances and accommodations while maintaining its authentic Mexican feeling. The bathrooms were spectacularly upgraded as well. The on call Chef and on-site property manager were both world class! Book this place, you will not regret it!

Perfect Spring Break Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We have been vacationing in La Cruz for several years now, and we love the area. This was our second stay at La Perla and we loved it even more than the first time. I really like the renovations that were done to the house including the outdoor kitchen and eating area under the palapa and the expanded pool (especially the wet bar area). We took advantage of the outdoor grill to cook some of the awesome lobster and shrimp that we bought at the fish market. Sunday market is very lively, I love finding some really neat art and craft things, and do try the local hibiscus flavored wine (it is a perfect base for a lovely sangria). Lalo the manager was great and checked in with us every day, and I really like that when booking this property Amy was very responsive and provided a lot of helpful tips and hints about the area. I already look forward to another stay at Casa Perla.

Spring Break Vacationer

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a week stay in Casa Perla. Wow, What a gem! Would recommend this property to anyone. Spacious, comfortable, convenient doesn't begin to adequately describe the home. Beautiful views of the Pacific from several rooms. Farmers Market on Sundays at the Marina across the street is fun. Fresh fish daily at the Marina you can bring home to BBQ. Massive pool if you just want to float. There were 8 in our party and we never felt crowded. Lalo, the caretaker, is bilingual and available to address your every need. Also, take advantage of Lupita, the cook, who will prepare great authentic Mexican meals if requested. Perfect place to call "home" while you explore this part of Mexico. Can't wait to return.

The Perfect House for any Occasion

  • 5 of 5

Casa Perla is the perfect house for any occasion! This was my third time staying at Casa Perla and it most definitely will not be my last. The first two times I came with college friends and this last time was with a for a girls weekend. Each group I have come with has had the most incredible and memorable vacation. Every time I come to this house I am even more amazed by the breathtaking views, great hospitality and the overall condition of the house.

This house has the perfect amount of rooms to accommodate a large group of people. There is no such thing as a bad room in this house. Each room has large beds and plenty of space to walk around in. A few of the rooms have the best views you can imagine that overlook the pool and the ocean. It is amazing to wake up this view while relaxing on vacation.

Although the rooms in the house are unbeatable, we never spent too much time in there because the pool area is where you want to be. This is definitely the best part of the house. The pictures do not do it justice. With a swim up bar, the pool shallow enough to walk with your head above water or swim if you would like, and the option to have it heated, there is really no reason to leave the house when you have this. The best part of the pool is that it waterfalls down into the largest spa I have ever seen. Off to the side of the pool is the outdoor seating area that provides a very large table that can fit your entire party around it. This allows you to talk with those who are siting at the table while you relax in the pool at the swim-up bar.

Besides the pool, my second favorite part of the house is the palapa lounge. This is the most amazing view I have ever seen, truly breathtaking. I loved waking up in the mornings and walking onto the palapa to see the view of the entire marina. When I imagine what paradise looks like, it's this view.

The house itself is in a great location. It is close drive to large grocery stores, local restaurants that are outstanding, and a short drive into town. When I visited the first two times, we took a quick drive to a local beach that was not crowded, had perfect waves to boogie board and was just absolutely beautiful. A paradise beach you would expect to see when visiting Mexico.

The hospitality I have received each time I visit this house is impeccable. It is far better than any resort I have ever stayed at and is one of the many reasons I continue coming back to this house.
