FISHING - Dorado, Marlin, and Yellow-Fin Tuna: The Puerto Vallarta fishing area is located on Mexico's open, central Pacific coast at about latitude 20 degrees north. Puerto Vallarta's offshore sport fishing water temperatures range from the low-70s in February-March, to the high-80s in August-September. During the summer-fall months of June-October and into November, the peak yellowfin tuna season brings tuna of all sizes, including huge fish pushing close to the 400-pound class, to Puerto Vallarta's outer waters. Closely following as water temperatures and sea conditions stabilize from about September onwards are peak seasons for dorado (also called mahi-mahi), black marlin, blue marlin, sailfish, and wahoo. Inshore fishing for jacks, snappers, and other species is always available, with a good midsummer roosterfish run during July-August, jack crevalle peaking during February-March, and the various pargo or snapper species. Excellent fishing much of the year--especially for really huge tuna and marlin. We can make reservations

BEACHES - the best in the Bay of Banderas: Unargueably, the best beaches in the Puerto Vallarta area are on the north shore - Destiladares, Manzanilla, Sayulita, Bucerias, and San Pancho (also called San Francisco). The beaches here are endless: you could easily walk along its medium-coarse beige sands from La Cruz all the way south to Nuevo Vallarta. The surf is gentle enough for swimming but also has body-surfable waves. The best beaches for surfing and boogie boarding are Destiladares and Sayulita.

La Cruz - charming fishing village: La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is home to the new 400-slip Marina Riviera Nayarit which includes world-class fishing charters - e.g. dorado (mahi mahi), huachingo (red snapper), sailfish, and marlin. 7 Golf Courses surround Casa Parota. Along with numerous fabulous restaurants, beach clubs, and sightseeing. La Cruz is located in the center of the newly-emerging North Bay area, which extends from Bucerias to Punta Mita (home of the Four Seasons Punta Mita), and beyond to Sayulita and San Francisco (also called San Pancho). 7 Golf Courses nearby - and more golf courses being added every year. Two more courses nearby coming online at the emerging Ritz Carlton located at the new Fonatur resort area between Punta de Mita and Sayulita.

About Amy or Bill Welch

Mexico is wonderful - the first thing people ask is, 'Is it safe?' We have driven all through Mexico and have had wonderful experiences from Merida to San Miguel de Allende, the Copper Canyon, Guadalajara, Zacatecas, Oaxaca, and throughout the Puerto Vallarta region. Come experience the magic of Mexico - the food and people are fantastic and welcoming.

Why Amy or Bill Welch chose Nayarit

La Cruz has so much to offer - world class fishing for marlin, mahi, rooster fish, sailfish, and tuna. Then there's always restaurants, music and meeting great people!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi Amy,

Our trip was fantastic and it was very hard to leave and come back to the real world! We had Lupita prepare 2 meals which were delicious. Lalo turned out to be such a big help. Thanks for recommending him to be our driver. He helped make our trip hassle free.

Once you enter the front doors, you can't believe the privacy and special enclosed areas to sit outside. The courtyards are amazing. Privacy, seclusion, a wonderful get-away. And all overlooking the new La Cruz Marina. Great fishing! The charter fishing boats, are located just steps away below Casa Perla. We can help you with charter fishing booking. We recommend the Osuna brothers' boats - Danny, Scotty, and Alonso.

Spring Break Vacationer

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a week stay in Casa Perla. Wow, What a gem! Would recommend this property to anyone. Spacious, comfortable, convenient doesn't begin to adequately describe the home. Beautiful views of the Pacific from several rooms. Farmers Market on Sundays at the Marina across the street is fun. Fresh fish daily at the Marina you can bring home to BBQ. Massive pool if you just want to float. There were 8 in our party and we never felt crowded. Lalo, the caretaker, is bilingual and available to address your every need. Also, take advantage of Lupita, the cook, who will prepare great authentic Mexican meals if requested. Perfect place to call "home" while you explore this part of Mexico. Can't wait to return.

The Perfect House for any Occasion

  • 5 of 5

Casa Perla is the perfect house for any occasion! This was my third time staying at Casa Perla and it most definitely will not be my last. The first two times I came with college friends and this last time was with a for a girls weekend. Each group I have come with has had the most incredible and memorable vacation. Every time I come to this house I am even more amazed by the breathtaking views, great hospitality and the overall condition of the house.

This house has the perfect amount of rooms to accommodate a large group of people. There is no such thing as a bad room in this house. Each room has large beds and plenty of space to walk around in. A few of the rooms have the best views you can imagine that overlook the pool and the ocean. It is amazing to wake up this view while relaxing on vacation.

Although the rooms in the house are unbeatable, we never spent too much time in there because the pool area is where you want to be. This is definitely the best part of the house. The pictures do not do it justice. With a swim up bar, the pool shallow enough to walk with your head above water or swim if you would like, and the option to have it heated, there is really no reason to leave the house when you have this. The best part of the pool is that it waterfalls down into the largest spa I have ever seen. Off to the side of the pool is the outdoor seating area that provides a very large table that can fit your entire party around it. This allows you to talk with those who are siting at the table while you relax in the pool at the swim-up bar.

Besides the pool, my second favorite part of the house is the palapa lounge. This is the most amazing view I have ever seen, truly breathtaking. I loved waking up in the mornings and walking onto the palapa to see the view of the entire marina. When I imagine what paradise looks like, it's this view.

The house itself is in a great location. It is close drive to large grocery stores, local restaurants that are outstanding, and a short drive into town. When I visited the first two times, we took a quick drive to a local beach that was not crowded, had perfect waves to boogie board and was just absolutely beautiful. A paradise beach you would expect to see when visiting Mexico.

The hospitality I have received each time I visit this house is impeccable. It is far better than any resort I have ever stayed at and is one of the many reasons I continue coming back to this house.

Perfect for our Girls Weekend

  • 5 of 5

La Casa Perla was everything we imagined and more! We had 11 of us staying at the house and never once felt like we were crammed. Some of the highlights included:

LALO: Literally could go on and on about how amazing he is! He dropped the van off prior to our arrival at the airport and continued to stop by and check in throughout each day. He set us up with the chef, the yoga instructor, and the massuese. He drove us any time we needed to go to the store, and even offered to go for us instead so we could enjoy the trip. He made restaurant and resort recommendations and was all around knowledgable about the area and any questions we had.

LUPITA: Again, such an amazing addition to the house. We had Lupita cook four breakfasts and three dinners and they were all amazing and so reasonably priced compared to eating out!! She would customize menus when we asked and there were always leftovers for lunch the next day!

THE POOL: The pool is definitely my favorite highlight of the house! It is beautiful and all the different levels were great. There's two wading areas, a swim up bar, and the hot tub is like something I've never seen!! The house was full of floaties and pool toys and there's even a bathroom right next to the pool that's accessible from outside so you don't have to worry about tracking water in the house. There's also paddle boards and life vests to use.

LOCATION: The house has a gorgeous view right over the marina. There's a back gate for easy access down to the marina or to the beach. The house is also a short drive to the cute down of Bucerias, where there's some great beach-front restaurants. A large grocery store, Mega (think of Walmart) was a close drive, and there were also tons of little corner stores in walking distance to the house.

THE HOUSE: The house itself is like something I've never seen before; straight out of a movie! You walk into a beautifully landscaped courtyard and there are four bedrooms and two living areas up the stairs. On the main floor of the house there is a huge gourmet kitchen, two more bedrooms, a large dining area, and the living room. I have to say though, by far my favorite area of the house was the outdoor dining area. All 11 of us were able to sit around the table together and the atmosphere was unbeatable. The house was cleaned every other day by the housekeepers and was very well maintained. You could really tell how much both the homeowners and Lalo care about the property.

Beautiful house with stunning views of the marina and bay

  • 5 of 5

We had the most amazingly bh vacation @ Casa Perla. The house is huge and spread out so everyone felt like they had their own space. We were 4 couples and felt like we took up barely half the house. Lalo the house a manager is awesome!!!!! He came by every morning and helped us arrange our day, from setting up boat riders to actually driving us to Saulita and hanging out with us. LOVE HIM!!!!! Lupita is the most amazing cook! Every day she made us breakfast and everything she made was absolutely delicious! Eggs, chilaquiles,

pancakes, fresh muffins, fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice every day! And her dinners..... forget about it! Chili rellenos, fresh guacamole, fajitas, it goes on and on!!!!!! BEST. VACATION. EVER!!!!!!!!!!

Pictures on the web do not reflect the actual home. Many things were not working including the master bedroom shower!! The pool was excellent. The beds were not really comfortable. TVS were not functional in most rooms. Kitchen was so so as far as cooking goes. The homes around this home are much nicer!! And better kept up. The landscape is marginal. Location so so!!! Lots of noise at night

Casa Perla, The Perfect Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Casa Perla was the perfect get away for our group of 12. We were greeted by Lalo the property manager who checked in daily with us to insure everything was good. He helped us shop when needed and attended to some minor repairs as requested. His English is perfect which made for easy communications. He knew where to go and what to do - another icing on the cake. Speaking of food, Lupita was superb. Each day she prepared a delicious breakfast and returned later in the day for our dinner. Not only was her food superb, but getting to know her was a real treat. She is kind, caring and comforting. You add all these qualities to the home itself and you have a real winning combination. The home comfortably fit all twelve of us with room to spare. Each room had a king size bed and all the amenities needed. We loved the pool area and the proximity of the home to the fish market and great beaches. Another real plus was the close location to excellent restaurants like Osos and the Yacht Club. Walking on the beach was a real pleasure as was traveling on the buses to Punta Mita, Buciereas and PV. Thank you to Lars and Sabrina - your home was excellent and we enjoyed every minute of it.
