About the property

3 Bedrooms + Loft + Den - 2.5+ Baths - (Sleeps 8-10)

Exceptional Log Home with breath-taking views of Lake and Mountains. Walk down the driveway to boat slip and lake with private cove and picnic area exclusively for home owners.

This home boasts a Chalet style glass wall of windows overlooking lake, open great room with enormous 3-tier antler chandelier, top-of-the line leather and rustic lodge furniture, and professionally selected fabrics, bedding and décor.

There are 3 bedrooms with a king bed and 2 queens, and a pullout full size bed in lower level den. The bear-themed loft has 2 twins perfect for a children’s hideaway. Firepit and hot tub are a hit with everyone who has stayed.

Perfect for a romantic escape, quiet family retreat, or fun get together with friends. Swim and fish in the cove or explore the immediate area. There is no shortage of activities for the adventurous! Nantahala is truly unlike any lake in the southeast. The water quality is unmatched and the lake is large enough to support any of your hobbies including fishing, boating or skiing.

This centrally located home provides a much-needed break from the Florida heat, a welcome rest from crowded Atlanta and a convenient point for exploring the Highlands or Asheville, about an hour away.

The home does not cell phone coverage but has limited internet and DishTV with 2 TV's, weber grill, hot tub, firepit, gas fireplace and great opportunities for star gazing, relaxing and great conversations.

(Near Andrews, NC, Franklin, NC, Murphy, NC, Bryson City, NC, Asheville, NC, Hayesville, NC and Smoky Mountain National Park. Also near Hiawassee, Ga and Lake Chatuge in Georgia. )

About Chris

We live in Atlanta and found this property, I designed the house with our builder and it was ready to move in 2005. We are a busy family of four and love going up to our house to get away from the 4MM people in Atlanta.

Chris purchased this lodge in 2005

Why Chris chose Topton

I designed the house for rental and vacation, my wife decorated for our 2nd house and retirement location. You will see that she never really wanted to rent it, and put a lot of time in the decor in the house. The view is AMAZING and I can promise you that it will be 'even better than the pictures' We love the pace and the rustic feel of the area. The walk to the the boat area is close given the steep mountain lake terrain, but you are truly in the woods when you are at our house.

Beautiful lake views

  • 4 of 5

We had a nice stay for a week. Gorgeous views and comfortable beds. Needs more outside seating and rockers to enjoy view. Internet super slow, but family was there for disconnect so didn't bother me. Kitchen well stocked. Driveway was a tough ascent if you don't have 4 wheel drive. Overall, we had a great stay!

Beautiful home near a beautiful lake...bring your walking shoes!

  • 4 of 5

Lake Nantahala is a beautiful body of water deep in the mountains of NC and the house is perched high up on a hillside where there are fabulous views of the lake and long distance mountain ranges. Overall we had a lovely time relaxing in the rustic cabin with an upscale feel. The home was more than enough space for our family of four, and could easily fit two families or a large family with many children. The hot tub was well maintained and clean. A walk down the (very) steep driveway, across a road, and down another fairly steep path, leads you to the gated docks where you can access the water. We were a little disappointed at the distance to the lake, but perhaps should have read the description more closely. The docks are tucked into a cove, off the main water, and well maintained but don't expect a beach access or to walk into the water. Plenty of space for our kayaks and we never saw another family using the docks. The house is nicely decorated but needs some love---the rocking chair on the front porch was broken and the benches were not very stable. The towels and linens were a little tired but there were plenty to go around. We came at the end of a long rental summer, so perhaps that explains why the kitchen was missing a lot of vital tools--only one pan, no small or medium sized pots or cookie sheets, and we never found a sharp knife(as someone that cooks most meals as part of my vacation relaxation plan, this was a bummer!) There weren't any books, games or movies(there were some old VHS tapes but nothing to play them on), but again, may be related to our timing at the end of summer. Probably time to replace some appliances, the fridge had trouble keeping cool and the freezer never froze the ice cream. The grill worked but took a very long time to get warm despite being gas. We rented a boat from Lakes End Marina and had fun tubing and we ran the Nantahala more times that we can count. Overall a successful venture!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house had plenty of space for all of us, and everything we needed. The owners were also very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a beautiful place to stay with peace and quiet all around.

Gorgeous view and beautiful cabin!

  • 4 of 5

We had an excellent stay! Really, the pictures of the property do not do it justice! It exceeded our expectations in terms of location, comfort and overall condition of the property. Very well maintained and beautifully decorated.

Our only issue was that the house phones didn't work and with no cell reception and wifi available, we were very disconnected from the outside world. Lucky we didn't have any emergencies.

The driveway to the cabin is very steep and tricky to climb with a minivan. I'm not sure we'd take a chance to go there in winter, but it does look like the perfect place to spend time in the summer! Our kids really enjoyed the experience and can't wait to go there again!!

An EXCELLENT choice!

  • 5 of 5

Chris and his sweet bride gave up their family vacation for our last minute rental request. We have a cabin in the area - but a funeral in the family required that we host more than could be fit in our little cabin. Chris was willing to work with us - a testament to his character and generosity. Each night we gathered together at the beautiful dinning table and the luxurious living room to share stories, and talk together. It was the perfect therapy. We even found a chance to enjoy the hot tub and a quick swim in the lake. The driveway was a bit tight - but Chris has assured me that he's working on making that better for future guests. The beds and the furnishing were perfect. We felt like royalty! Loved the shower downstairs. I slept in one of the main floor bedrooms and my parents slept in the master room. We will be renting this cabin again in the future. Chris was a great guy to work with and this cabin is FANTASTIC!
