If you are seeking a haven of rest and an idyllic spot, look no further. We are delighted to offer our guests not just a piece of 'shoreline' on beautiful Newfound Lake, but a place of peace and sanctuary. Given 400' of private shoreline, location on the end of a private drive, and a shared border with the Audubon nature preserve, quiet seclusion is an enduring quality of this waterfront property. For those who love water this is ideal. Choose between deep water swimming and gradually sandy entry. With the warmth and charm of a 50's lake 'cottage', modern amenities such as WIFI help span the decades, but only so much as to give a respectful nod to the 21st century. Inspiring natural beauty, the lure of the White Mountains, and endless outdoor activities will make you wish email never existed and the summer would never end. Artists and writers, honeymooners and retirees, have long enjoyed the rejuvenation of an extended stay here. This summer, why not let it be you?
We have rented many house on Newfound Lake but this one was by far our favorite. It had everything we look for in a vacation spot. The house is very spacious, comfortable and wonderfully maintained. The screened in porch was a favorite spot but the views from the living room window and deck are beautiful. Thank You Alan & Diane for allowing us to introduce Newfound Lake to our grandsons in such a memorable way. We hope to watch them grow each summer at your fabulous home.
We have just returned from two weeks at the Galbraith’s Cottage, this was our first visit and hopefully not our last. Working with Diane and Alan on renting was a first class experience. I’m a worrywart with many questions about the cottage and the things we needed to bring, they were so very patient. We were coming from North Carolina and had limited room in our car, so nice not having linens to bring back and forth. They have everything that you could possible need especially in the kitchen.
The cottage is on a beautifully piece of property overlooking Newfound Lake. At the lake edge they have a great dock, walk in area with steps for those who choose not to jump. No problem diving into the water from the end of the dock. If you have never been to Newfound Lake the water is crystal clear.
The property borders the Audubon Nature Preserve, we walked it a number of times. There is a small path from the cottage that leads to the Audubon trails that go around the point.
The Galbraith’s home is very warm and inviting with all the beautiful pine boards and vaulted ceilings, the porch was one of my favorite spots with the view of the lake and their beautiful grounds. We had nice fresh vegetables from the wonderful garden; picked blue berries and black berries for our morning breakfast.
Over the years we have stayed in 5 homes on 4 different NH lakes. All places have their advantages and disadvantages, but this property was our favorite for several reasons. The lake itself is very clean and a joy to swim in. The stone patio and deck are very well maintained. The water is more than deep enough for diving at the end of the dock. There is also easy access to a sandy area close to shore. We have a son with some physical needs and the access to the water was the best in this property. The nimble among us could choose the narrow trail from the deck, while we took our son down the grassy slope on the side yard. I always hope for long views of a lake. In this case, the best view could be found by looking out from the end of the dock. There is a tiny island directly across from the dock with a tiny, very quaint cottage on it. We only saw inhabitants there on one of the days during our stay, so privacy was not an issue.
The property is huge! The garden provided some greens and chives for our salads, but lucky are those who rent during tomato or raspberry season! There is a cool wooden bridge over a small stream leading to the garden. Our boys found the spot to be a great place for frog spotting. There is also a quiet little spot with a large, very comfortable hammock. From that spot there was a lovely view of the lake and a small flower garden where we saw hummingbirds numerous times. Birdwatching was excellent during our stay! The property actually borders an Audubon nature preserve. A small deer path in the yard connects to the trail system there. It was so nice to take walks in the woods straight from the back yard. It felt like we had it all to ourselves. For those wishing a hike with a vista, there is a trailhead about 6 miles away that leads up to two peaks (Little and Big Sugarloaf) overlooking the lake. Our group of mixed ages was able to make it to the first peak in less than 30 minutes and an additional 30 minutes or so to the second.
For restocking the fridge, we appreciated that the closest Hannaford's was only 15 min away.
The owners take obvious care to maintain and stock the home with everything you could possible need. It was very clean, comfortable, and spacious. The beds and linens were high quality and unlike some other lake homes, there was no musty smell here at all. Alan and Diane were excellent hosts. Their home is really special!
Diane and Alan, thank you. This was THE lake house we were looking for, it was perfect for us! Clean and very comfortable, a kitchen with everything necessary, and plenty of room for a few friends who had to come and see this waterfront gem! The views from the deck, screen porch and the lake were beautiful; fall colors just beginning to glow. The use of the rowboat and canoe were graciously extended to us. Hiking trails were right next door. Lasting memories of a special weekend and a stay at this special home will be with us all.
My family had a wonderful vacation on Newfound Lake. The lake is lovely and the house is the perfect lake house. We swam and kayaked and canoed all day. Then we picked fresh vegetables from the garden and made dinner while the kids were exploring the nearby audobon hiking trails. After dinnwe we watched the sun set over the lake and we roasted marshmellows in the fireplace. The house is stocked with everything needed to enjoy our time on the lake. It has beautiful art and lovely ground. We got more than we hoped for. It was a magical weekend and we can't wait to do it again. Thank you, Lisa
Our family rented this wonderful waterfront home for one week and enjoyed every moment of our stay. The home is an old style New Hampshire "camp" in the best sense of the term: beautiful natural wood walls, large living room/dining room area with a large window and view of the lake, breezy screened-in porch with slate floor, well equipped kitchen, wonderful deck off the central hall and then a granite deck on the lake with two wooden decks attached. The private yard and garden were fun to walk through and explore. Huge summer squash was ripening on the vine and we picked and roasted two during our stay. One of our favorite spots was the hammock just off the house's deck. Another was the table in the screened in porch, where we ate breakfast every day and could enjoy lake views as we ate. The waterfront decks got sun most of the day but had a bit of shade in the afternoon-- a nice break after sun-filled mornings. We loved diving off those decks! Just off the waterfront decks is a very small beach where some of our young visitors enjoyed wading and splashing. There are several summer camps on the lake and we enjoyed watching the campers rowing, canoeing and windsurfing. At night, everything was usually silent, other than an occasional loon call. The fact that there's no TV at the house actually led to added relaxation; we read more than usual, played old games and headed to bed a bit earlier, feeling nicely tired out from all the fresh air and swimming. We'd planned to visit around the area but loved the setting at the house so much we barely left the property. Other than the Hebron Fair, which we just happened upon that Sunday, we stayed put. We had all we needed right where we were. Finally, the owners were great to deal with: prompt with responses as we were considering the rental, informative, fair and thoughtful throughout. They even called to check that all was well during our stay. A lovely stay. We're sure to return.
