Idyllic late summer retreat

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed twice at this lovely place, and for several weeks' at a time and had the most wonderful stays. It is quiet, private and situated in a most lovely spot. The house is adorable and well-maintained, the kitchen well appointed and the master bed room is spacious with lovely views (you can see deer at the end of the garden is you are up early enough). Our children love the spacious garden, and the screened-in porch makes for an ideal spot to read and relax. This is a very special place and has captured our hearts.

Cute outside, but the musty smell inside drove us away

  • 2 of 5

My mother and I were to stay three nights in mid-October. When we entered, the house smelled as though every piece of material and upholstery needed to be dragged outside for a thousand days in the sun to air out. We didn't want to sit on the couch and chairs. We were very disappointed and left to find other lodging, despite the fact that this was Columbus Day weekend and we knew that locally every hotel and motel would probably be sold out. It also would have been good to know that the steep interior stairs have no railing on either side.

Owner's Response: We're sorry our place did not meet the needs of these guests. They arrived 3 hours earlier than they had indicated, while the house was just in the process of being thoroughly cleaned. They knew the house had bedrooms upstairs and had not asked for any special consideration for the very elderly mother. My housekeeper assured them that the downstairs convertible would be made up to accommodate her to which they responded with appreciation and said they'd be back in two hours. She worked hard to make it nice as ever with many special touches to welcome them, though they chose not to return without letting anyone know. Gratefully, we have a guest book of rave reviews from many appreciative visitors who love this country cottage and come back year after year.

Serenity!

  • 4 of 5

I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a real getaway. The property is extremely private and remote yet close to Woodstock. Beautiful mountain views! The meadow in front of the house is perfect for stargazing. The front porch with hammock is divine. Plenty of rustic 1800’s charm inside. The kitchen is a good size and well maintained. The owner and property managers are very hospitable and responsive. We had so much fun and hope to return.
