The Loire Valley isn’t known as the garden of France without good reason. Vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see producing exceptionally fine wines and local produce is in plentiful supply growing alongside the majestic Loire River as it snakes its way to the Atlantic Ocean. This really is a very special area indeed.
Allee De Mesnes is a truly beautiful country retreat set in an elevated position overlooking its own 7 acre lake. Nestled in almost 50 acres of mature gardens and woodland the house is able to accommodate up to 12 guests and is very well placed for all of the major attractions that the area has to offer including the famous Loire Chateaux and vineyards.
Beautiful setting, comfortable house, good fishing, no wifi, just what we wanted. Ideal place to switch off and slow down. There are no local facilities unless you get into the car but we knew that and took supplies accordingly, there is a bakers and small shop about 10 minutes away. Plenty of nice walks from the house and wildlife around. If you like peace and quiet and nature you will love it, if you want lively activities and lots of people probably not.
My only negative is that the bed was not very comfortable, nothing that a new mattress wouldn't fix.
We enjoyed a splendid first week of May with our 2 families (4 adults, 6 kids). A beautiful house and lovely outside near to a small lake. The terras has been build as a balcony enhancing a lovely view on the small pond. The great fire place and the spacious livingroom made it not hard at all for sheltering the cold of the evening in the period of the year. Kids were completely occupied by fishing and floating on the water or sneaking around to what seemed to them being the forests of Nottingham... A review cannot be taken serious without any critical remark. For summer periods a parasol would do and also 2 bed chairs available can lead to some argument... The kitchen equipment in terms of pans (size, number and quality) could be better. You see, nothing that stands in the way of a joyful stay at this remarkable place.
Hidden away in the rural forest of the Cher this is the ideal get away from it all holiday. The house is well furnished and obviously cherished by John the owner. The kitchen is well equipped. The log fire was the source of many happy evenings roasting chestnuts and playing Ludo!
The lake! A super plastic boat was provided that gave the kids hours of fun as did the fishing. There are obviously monsters in the lake buy far to sensible to be caught by us amateurs. However the six inch rudd and catfish are easy and formed the basis of a week long competition as to who could catch the most.
The woods teamed with wildlife, otters, wild duck, peacocks and goats. We heard wild boar but no sightings.
Confortable, welcoming and ideal for a relaxing holiday yet within easy reach of the Zoo, quaint St Aignan with a good restaurant and the castles of the Loire and Cher. Tours is not too far away if you need a city.
Would we visit again - almost certainly!
