Hello All! Our names are Ed and Patti Dewing and we have lived in Hansville since 1990 where we raised our two daughters Chelsie and Lindsay. We love this area and have been exploring it for all these years and still find new and fun spots to enjoy. Ed has been a flight attendant for Delta Airlines for 34 years and Patti has worked for the North Kitsap School District for 17 years. Chelsie, the oldest daughter, works for Children´s Hospital in Seattle and Lindsay is currently serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras. We love the sun, sand and beach and although Washington may seem like a unusual place to find that we have found that some of the best of what´s around lies right outside our backdoor. We hope you can come and find a bit of your own paradise in the Pacific Nortrhwest!
Ed and I decided to buy a vacation rental because traveling is in our blood and we have been so lucky as to travel to many parts of the world. We have always thought about how we would create the perfect getaway and vacation environment and we decided that the perfect place would be here on the Kitsap Penninsula. We know the area very well and can give information about all the secret hideaways and fun places to visit. So we have taken on the challange of creating a cozy and fun home away from home! Another reason we purchased this home in particular is because the home we live in looks out over the Hood Canal but the vacation rental home looks out over the Puget Sound Shipping Lanes yet the homes are only a few miles apart. The difference between the two water views is amazing and we have really enjoyed the contrast between the two bodies of water. Hansville and the Kitsap Peninsula have a lot to offer and we are so close to the home that we can help you create the perfect weekend getaway or extended stay. Its a wonderful location because you´ve got some incredible Northwest beaches that reside in a small but lively town yet, Seattle is only a ferry boat ride away. All in all it has been a blast creating a home where people can come and enjoy the beauty of our town and still feel at home!
While staying at our property we enjoy mostly the view that is constantly changing and in motion. The amount and variety of boats that pass through the Shipping Lanes on a daily basis provides some of the greatest and never boring views we have ever seen. We enjoy the hot tub that looks out onto the water both at night and during the day. There are constantly different types of wildlife, depending on the season, that can be easily spotted from the house including deer, racoons, many species of birds, eagles, fox and whales. There is a wonderful walking path right outside the front door, and from there, are miles and miles of nature walks that can be explored. We also enjoy the functionality and diversity of the home. The house is fully stocked with everything you could need in the kitchen. There are board games, a library for adults and kids, as well as movies, music, and a full on game room. At the same time a guest could easily decide to do nothing but relax and take in the views from the hot tub or the jacuzzi in the master suite. Its ready for a family or a romantic getaway for two. The Shipping Lanes house is a home away from home... even for us and we live only 2 miles away.
"Amazing views from this well appointed vacation home! Every wish anticipated right down to puzzles, book, games, game tables (set-up garage) movies, music, hot tub and much more. We can't imagine not enjoying this wonderful get away place. We can certainly look forward to the next visit."
Again, we enjoyed our stay and can look forward to our next visit. Daughter and son-in-law came up from Tacoma on Saturday to have time with us and they really enjoyed the view of the water. Thanks again!
This place is worth six stars but they won't let you give that many. It is a large home, well laid out for privacy and traffic flow. Spotlessly clean. The kitchen was fully equipped with pots and pans and glassware and table service. It's on a very private lot, well screened from traffic on the road and from the neighbors. There were decks all around the side and front with multiple areas for watching the interesting parade of boats. Everything from sailboats to fishing boats to giant container ships. We got to watch a coast guard rescue one night. Appears one of the small, pleasure craft lost power. They were towed away. We saw a deer, a doe fat with fawns browsed all around the edge of the property one evening. Lots of eagles soaring. The dining room table was a wall of wrap around windows so we could watch the ocean activity from the first cup of coffee in the morning until full dark. We recommend the Nature Preserve walk to Foulweather Bluff about a mile past the house. We had the trail and the beach all to ourselves on a Saturday afternoon. The Point No-Point Lighthouse walk is also good and very nearby. Good location for flying kites. Sandy beach for the kids to play. Be sure to stop for a good look at the tugboat house on the way to the lighthouse. People are living in a section of an giant tugboat that has been hauled up on land and turned into a house. Worth a photo stop. We highly recommend a stay at the Shipping Lanes House.
Very comfortable, felt just like home. Game room was a nice surprise.
My wife and I visited the Shipping Lane House for a little getaway. From the moment we walked in we were incredibly relaxed and overall impressed. The home is extremely comfortable, well stocked, clean and cleverly laid out. The beds are very comfortable and there is not enough I can say about the view, deck and hot tub. The house feels some what remote and it is very quiet outside but there are several amenities nearby with most all you would want, especially if you like to cook at home and spend a good amount of time relaxing and enjoying the view. We came to this house to get away and that is exactly what we experienced. Additionally the owners were very accommodating and responsive when we had questions or needed assistance. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Shipping Lane House. Any improvement recommendations I could make are so minor they are not even worth considering nor did they affect our overall experience in any negative way. This is a wonderful destination and we hope to visit again some day.
We really enjoyed our stay in your home with the outstanding view of Puget Sound! We went on some very nice hikes in the area and enjoyed the hot tub and all the games that you have provided. It is a great place for couples or families. We would love to return some time! The only small inconvenience was we couldn't find the gas tank for the barbecue.
All the best,
Bill and Marlene
This lovely home did not disappoint and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay so much we are planning our next trip back! The house was clean and the kitchen especially well equipped. The layout takes advantage of the beautiful views and was easy for my elderly father to get around and enjoy. Communication with George was easy and delightful and our hosts left plenty of information on things to do in the area. We loved the walks around the Greenway and Lighthouse, and a trip into Poulsbo. But also very happy just to hang around the house and watch the ship traffic. Thanks so much for a delightful stay!
Great location to everything in the area. The home has everything you need from essentials to loads of movies and games. The view from the hot tub is wonderful!
