Hello All! Our names are Ed and Patti Dewing and we have lived in Hansville since 1990 where we raised our two daughters Chelsie and Lindsay. We love this area and have been exploring it for all these years and still find new and fun spots to enjoy. Ed has been a flight attendant for Delta Airlines for 34 years and Patti has worked for the North Kitsap School District for 17 years. Chelsie, the oldest daughter, works for Children´s Hospital in Seattle and Lindsay is currently serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras. We love the sun, sand and beach and although Washington may seem like a unusual place to find that we have found that some of the best of what´s around lies right outside our backdoor. We hope you can come and find a bit of your own paradise in the Pacific Nortrhwest!
Ed and I decided to buy a vacation rental because traveling is in our blood and we have been so lucky as to travel to many parts of the world. We have always thought about how we would create the perfect getaway and vacation environment and we decided that the perfect place would be here on the Kitsap Penninsula. We know the area very well and can give information about all the secret hideaways and fun places to visit. So we have taken on the challange of creating a cozy and fun home away from home! Another reason we purchased this home in particular is because the home we live in looks out over the Hood Canal but the vacation rental home looks out over the Puget Sound Shipping Lanes yet the homes are only a few miles apart. The difference between the two water views is amazing and we have really enjoyed the contrast between the two bodies of water. Hansville and the Kitsap Peninsula have a lot to offer and we are so close to the home that we can help you create the perfect weekend getaway or extended stay. Its a wonderful location because you´ve got some incredible Northwest beaches that reside in a small but lively town yet, Seattle is only a ferry boat ride away. All in all it has been a blast creating a home where people can come and enjoy the beauty of our town and still feel at home!
While staying at our property we enjoy mostly the view that is constantly changing and in motion. The amount and variety of boats that pass through the Shipping Lanes on a daily basis provides some of the greatest and never boring views we have ever seen. We enjoy the hot tub that looks out onto the water both at night and during the day. There are constantly different types of wildlife, depending on the season, that can be easily spotted from the house including deer, racoons, many species of birds, eagles, fox and whales. There is a wonderful walking path right outside the front door, and from there, are miles and miles of nature walks that can be explored. We also enjoy the functionality and diversity of the home. The house is fully stocked with everything you could need in the kitchen. There are board games, a library for adults and kids, as well as movies, music, and a full on game room. At the same time a guest could easily decide to do nothing but relax and take in the views from the hot tub or the jacuzzi in the master suite. Its ready for a family or a romantic getaway for two. The Shipping Lanes house is a home away from home... even for us and we live only 2 miles away.
"Amazing views from this well appointed vacation home! Every wish anticipated right down to puzzles, book, games, game tables (set-up garage) movies, music, hot tub and much more. We can't imagine not enjoying this wonderful get away place. We can certainly look forward to the next visit."
Again, we enjoyed our stay and can look forward to our next visit. Daughter and son-in-law came up from Tacoma on Saturday to have time with us and they really enjoyed the view of the water. Thanks again!
It was mostly beautiful weather to enjoy this beautiful property. It was less than 2 miles to my daughters house. So made for easy access without disrupting their busy schedule. My daughter did not get the Seahawks game but we did. So we had company!
There are not many rentals in this area with the amenities this lovely house had. It was larger than expected and very comfortable. Maybe a little hard for 6'4" husband to get out of the low couches but they were comfortable. We always bypass a rental with a futon. We are 58 and 60 and comfort has changed since our younger days. The beds were comfortable and we slept well considering we are used to a king size bed. It had homey touches of quilted bedding and décor as well as cute beach décor. I made 2 apple pies while here and the place smelled wonderful. We enjoyed such a variety of ships and tugs and sailboats going by. We watched an eagle in the trees for a long time. He was huge and plump. We listened to the chipmunks chatter and fight. We did not use the hot tub but it was available if we had wanted to. I will stay here again. This is in my top 2 rentals I like. I would recommend this place to others who want to have a nice vacation. The layout of the house was great and clean. So much I would have liked to have done, if I was more mobile. We did manage to visit the lighthouse and have coffee at a nearby park a couple of times. With the books I brought and with what they have available to read, you could never get bored. I have never seen so many baskets of books! Oh yeah, and the best feature: windows clean to see the view out of!!! I can't say how many times this has been an issue at other places. Thank you Patty and Ed
We had a wonderful time. Views were awesome. One of the people with us had an app on his phone that told us the names and origins and destinations of all the vessels that passed thru. Highly recommend the app. The owners did a great job of decorating and made it feel like a home away from home. Very clean and well maintained. The house was everything it was described to be. We would highly recommend this listing to our friends and family. We spent a day exploring the surrounding areas, Indianola, Port Gamble, lighthouses and both casinos. A lot of fun and memoires created on this trip. We'll definitely return. Debbie & Dave
The Shipping Lanes House was perfect for us. We played lots of board games inside and out, shared cooking meals in the big kitchen, played on the beach, which is a short walk away along a path and enjoyed the hot tub. The beds are super comfortable with plenty of closet and drawer space to unpack. But.... it's the awesome view that makes this place so perfect. We could watch all the ship traffic from several rooms. Loved it!
This beautiful, clean home had everything we needed to have a wonderful vacation. Kitchen was well stocked. Washer/Dryer worked great. Hot tub was enjoyable. After visiting Olympia National Park, or going Whale watching out of Port Angeles, or eating and walking around in Poulsbo, it was a relaxing spot to come back to. We watched the Olympics in the evenings, or opened the Hot tub.
Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Overall a very good experience. Everything you need for a good vacation.
It was just me and my fiancée for the 4th of July weekend. We have stayed in dozens of VRBO rentals, and this was by far one of our top favorites!
Kitchen came fully equipped, lots of different seasonings and spices, pots and pans, even baking items. All we had to buy were the groceries and olive oil! Fridge is huge!
Perfect location. Great view of the water all times day or night. Mostly nobody can see you however there is a neighbor semi-close in the backyard so if they are coming or going they can see the deck. Was heavenly having Whidbey's fireworks going off laying in the hot tub.
We did not hear from nor see the owners once. Correspondence by email was excellent. It was very nice to be able to fully relax in their beautiful home whIle still maintaining complete privacy. There is one house behind the backyard but we only physically saw 2 people when we were there. Heard voices though. Still very private!
-Lots of natural lighting and windows
-Jetted tub in master bath spacious. Fiancée is 6'1" and fit comfortably. I am 5'8" and could nearly lay down.
-Game room in garage is AMAZING!!!!! Perfect addition.
-Small (ish) bedrooms
The master bedroom is very decently sized, however the 2 side rooms are a little on the smaller side. The queen beds take up most of the room, but it is necessary to keep the queen size. Perfect for children however if it's 2 adults it's a tight squeeze. Nothing they can do about this of course, but if you come with other adult guests or 2 other couples then they might be a little cramped.
-No TV in master bedroom
We understand many people try to leave TV behind, however we don't have one so it's nice to watch TV in bed on vacation. If there was a TV in the master bedroom, the bedroom would be perfect. That was our ONLY issue with it! Updated TVS around wouldn't hurt. Also, the cable is basic, very limited channels (however their movie library is awesome and the wifi worked great!
-Needs King Bed in Master Room!
Being on a septic tank I'm assuming has something to do with this. If nothing can be done so be it, however the rainfall style showerhead just didn't have enough power for us. If nothing can be done then it's not the end of the world :]
Overall very pleased and made for a great fourth of July vacation for us. Quick Tip - Limited food availability, STOCK UP ON GROCERIES! Not wheelchair accessible, lots of steps outside and a few inside.
We WILL be back
