Franschhoek is a large, spacious 4 bedroom house located just outside the village of La Roque-Gageac. Perched on the hillside affords the house outstanding views of the village, the river and surrounding areas. La Roque-Gageac village and amenities are easily accessible by a short car ride, otherwise a public footpath to the village is located about 300 metres from the property. Franschhoek's 4 bedrooms comfortably sleep 8 people - two of the bedrooms are equipped with SuperKing size beds, which can also convert into two single beds per bedroom. The 2 other bedrooms are furnished with King size beds. There is a downstairs toilet and shower, as well as a separate guest toilet. Upstairs has a large bathroom with a bath, toilet and bidet. There is an indoor dining room and lounge area, but the favourite area for most is the generous outside terrace, with a large table and chairs to accommodate alfresco dining, whilst enjoying the terraced garden and spectacular views. The village hosts a number of good restaurants and snack bars, a bakery, quaint shops, an ATM, Post Office and a weekly market. Within the surrounding area, there are a number of various activities such as walking, cycling, boat rides, canoeing and hot air ballooning.

About Michael & Chantal Robertshaw
Michael - British and Chantal - South African are the new owners of Franschhoek in La Roque-Gageac. We are both passionate about exploring new and exciting destinations, and due to both of us having worked at sea for a number of years, have been very fortunate in having had the opportunity of travelling extensively. We currently reside in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
Michael & Chantal Robertshaw purchased this House in 2015
Why Michael & Chantal Robertshaw chose La Roque-Gageac
We love the contemporary Scandinavian design. The house exudes warmth, is spacious, airy and light. We particularly enjoy this area of The Dordogne, and who could resist the spectacular views that the property has to offer.

We loved every moment of our stay. The house was in such a beautiful area and was so well equipped.
The area is so beautiful and the view from the house is breath taking. We found the home so well equipped with many extra things not expected. You do need a car for the area, but there are so many things to do in such a small radius from the property. We will certainly consider a return visit.
We rented this house for a week and we loved everything about it. Nice kitchen, spacious bedrooms and living room, beautiful view of the Dordogne from the patio.
Not to be missed!
This house was incredible! It was just perfect for our family of 4 during out 4 night stay in the Dordogne region - and could definitely accommodate more. Photos cannot adequately capture the view from this property - it is truly memorable. From the back patio, you can see the Dordogne river valley, the medieval town of La Roque, just a km away and Castlenaud in the distance. It's so relaxing to sit outside in the evening, listen to the birds, watch the butterflies and take in the view.
The house is very well stocked, with a great kitchen. I would definitely recommend stocking up at the supermarket in Sarlat and eating in - once you get there , you do not want to leave. The photos do not do the property justice. Be sure to get coordinates for GPS from the owners, but specific directions would have also been helpful for our first time in. I do not recommend getting there in the dark as the route is confusing. The owners were very responsive and easy to correspond with.
Last, the location of the property is perfect for site seeing in the area. Do not miss a canoe trip on the Dordogne river or the towns of Sarlat and Domme, both nearby. A very special place.
We have just spent a fantastic week in the Dordogne staying in the house, and it was perfect. Being February it was very cold at night however the house remained warm on cosy. The house was fantastically well equipped and there was nothing we were left wanting for and it was spotlessly clean and beautifully maintained.
The location of the house couldn't be better and is within striking distance of all the main attractions.
The thing we most enjoyed about staying in this house is the view from the terrace, which is stunning.
Great house and location
Spacious, very clean and well equipped house.
We looked at many options to stay in the area and are very happy with this selection.
The house is on the top of the hill and provides great views of the river and village from the patio, kitchen, living room. The patio is equipped with large and small tables, chairs, lounge chairs and motorized retractable awning if needed.
Well equipped kitchen, modern bathrooms, good size bedrooms.
It is very quiet and private. Easy communication with the owners.
We enjoyed our stay.
Fantastic, Brilliant and Wonderful!
We had an absolutely fantastic time here and the holiday was made all the better for a perfect house. The house is very spacious and furnished to a high standard with care and thought being taken to ensure the holiday went without any problems or hassle. We are a family of 4 with a 14 and 12 year old so wi-fi is a must as far as they are concerned and they were not disappointed as the wi-fi connection was superb.
The house is situated in a wonderful spacious plot, not overlooked by other houses in a quite setting and with wonderful views. Sitting on the terrace we saw an array of wildlife: red squirrels, eagles, birds, bats and butterflies as well as watching hot air balloons in the mornings and evenings.
The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher and there is a washing machine and plenty of drying space in the 'cave' as well as outside.
We wouldn't hesitate to visit again and the owners and manager are lovely and communication with them was great - we are grateful that they share their wonderful house.
There is plenty to do for all ages in the area and a highlight of our trip was canoeing down the Dordogne.
Five of the 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France' - Most beautiful villages of France of which La Roque-Gageac is one of are situated within 15 Kms of this stunning stretch of the beautiful Dordogne river. These charming villages offer historic architecture and unique shops offering local produce and fantastic restaurants completed by stunning picture perfect views.
This along with the historic Market town of Sarlat la Caneda, Les Eyzies, Racamador and many more quaint historic villages make the area a must see.
Sample the many local markets for fresh local produce, visit the castles of Beynac and Castlenaud, as well as the beautiful gardens of Marqueyssac.
Go for a gentle sail along the river in a traditional flat bottom boat known as Garbares, or for the more adventurous try the canoeing and admire the scenery from the river.
