Are you looking for a waterfront cottage on the quiet, family oriented side of Silver Lake with large yard and private beach? Well, look no further. Our cottage is located right on the water, 3rd house from the west end of the Lake with 55’ of private frontage. The neighbors on each side are private homes. The Dunes are directly across the lake from the yard. This end of the lake is typically less windy, and it is a shorter distance over to the dunes. We are located on a dead-end street, walking distance to Mac Woods Dune Scooters and Whippy Dip. There is access to the channel that runs from Silver Lake to Lake Michigan (great for kids to explore or canoe). The beach where the channel meets Lake Michigan makes a great place to enjoy the “big lake”. Little ones can play safely in the warmer channel water, while the older ones can enjoy the waves, watch the sunset or walk to the lighthouse.
The cottage yard has both shady and sunny spots for relaxing all day long. There is a fire pit just a few feet away from the beach for evening entertainment. The water here is knee deep and clear with a sandy bottom. The drop off is over 150’ out. Getting over to the dunes or fishing will be easy in our rowboat with motor (if rented), or paddleboat. Of course, you are welcome to bring your own boat or jetski. We have a boat tie all set up for you.

Silver Lake is world famous for its sand dunes: between Lake Michigan and Silver Lake are 2,000 acres of moving sand dunes. Open to the public to drive your dune buggy, jeep, truck, or 4-wheeler. The dunes are divided into three sections. The northern area is reserved for off-road vehicles where licensed drivers can test their sand driving abilities. The center region is for hikers and has access to both Lake Michigan and Silver Lake. The southern section is leased to Mac Woods Dune Rides. These are long, open-top jeeps that people of all ages can ride in and experience the dunes. Of course, hikers are welcome in this area as well, just be sure to look before crossing the dune buggy tracks.
Our family has dearly loved this property for the last 20 years. I have fond memories of it as a child during the 1960-1980 timeframe. Our kids are highschool & college age, so are usually too busy to spend much time there anymore. We haven't rented it too much over the last few years, but I never say no to my repeat renters who insist on not giving up their week at Silver Lake. This year, we've finally decided to rent it more. So, that is why it was only listed as of April 1st. In normal rental years, it would've been fully booked by this time.
This property was originally built by my grandparents in 1960. It is very sentimental to us and will stay in the family for many years to come. Renting it helps to pay the property taxes and upkeep, not to mention make a beautiful property available to be enjoyed by others. My grandparents loved to share it with family, friends and renters. Family cottages, like this one, are quickly disappearing in this area, which is a shame. We hope you will take advantage and enjoy it as we do.
The incredible views of the dunes, the large yard with shade and sun and the very quiet, safe setting. The neighbors are great too!
My family and I just recently stayed here and absolutely loved it. It was a quiet, relaxing location, with a great view of the sand dunes across the lake. This home was extremely clean and had every thing you could need away from home (plates, pans, utensils, etc). My young boys loved that it was within walking distance to the Dune Rides and Whippy Dip!! The water behind the house was about knee-waist deep (to our kids), so they really enjoyed spending time splashing and playing in the water - and my husband and I enjoyed the fact that we could just sit right there in the shade and watch them. There was a fire pit that we used a few nights - nothing better than having a fire near the lake!! All in all, this was a wonderful place to stay. Couldn't have asked for a better location and vacation!!! Thank you!!! :)
We truly enjoyed our stay at this cottage. It was neat with every amenity. The location was quiet, yet right on the lake. The pictures are a bit deceiving... it was roomy for six adults. We will definitely return, when we can.
