The Great Escape!

  • 4 of 5

June 19th - June 24th 2017

My husband and our sons, ages 22 and 20 absolutely loved staying at 2 Sisters! A very comfortable home and spacious for all of us. We immediately felt relaxed and at home. When you first walk in the front door the first thing you see is the Caribbean! . 2 separate back decks (not including the lower level either or the hut down by the dock) with an amazing view of the beautiful blue ocean. Doyle (caregiver) met us at the airport and got us our rental car, and directed us to the house. 25 minutes from Governers Harbour Airport. You will love the private cove with the diving board, a dock to hang out, a very nice shaded hut with seating. Snorkeling right in your backyard and there was plenty of sea life to see! S The kitchen is stocked with everyday items you would need. Great music CD selection! The outdoor shower came in handy as well. There is a small grocery just 5 minutes south from house on Queens Highway called Cost Cutter which is handy. There is a wonderful market called Island Market towards Palmetto Point (Going north) that you must go to. Restock days are Tuesday's and Friday's and we got to tour the back of the garden! What a treat! Fresh baked breads, jams, specialty items and wonderful produce.

We made the trek to Lighthouse Beach (Southern most point of Eluethera) (WOW!) Be prepared as the road off from Queens Highway to get there, is rough terrain, but worth it! It was so enjoyable to explore the small towns along the way. Stop in Tarpum Bay to get a bite at Sammy's Definitely explore the side roads and see where they land as you will discover some beautiful beaches! Tenbay Beach was gorgeous and very close to the house. French Leave near Governers Harbour. Take a day trip and head north to HArbour Island. What a cool place and the beach is again gorgeous! Be prepared to pitch 40 -50 bucks (cash only) for the a golf cart to get you around for the day. Along the way we stopped at Gregory Town and there are a couple neat gift shops and Take aways to stop and eat. Glass Window Bridge! Spectacular view of where the Atlantic and Caribbean meet.

Go to Tippy's near Governers Harbour. Friday nights in Governers Harbour is Fish Fry! Music, Food Dancing the locals and other tourist you meet is so fun!

We want to thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home and have been bragging about it since we have been back! Highly recommend! Hope to return soon!

Canadian Christmas Holiday 2017

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent 12 nights at 2 Sisters over the Christmas 2017 holiday. Everything we found about the home and location was excellent.

The home is well equipped with kitchen amenities which came in handy as we cooked most of our meals. To that end, we did most of our shopping for basics at Midway Cost Cutters, only a mile's drive away, and for vegetables and breads we ventured to Island Farm Market where there was excellent choice.

The house is well furnished and provisioned with towels and linens, the air conditioning throughout worked well during our stay in a very warm period for end of December.

The location is superb. The full wall of screened windows facing the Caribbean, and the full vernandah, open up the wonderful view of the coral reefs in Little Bay. The highlight is the waterfront deck and the excellent diving board. It's about 3 meters off the water and the water depth is sufficient for any dive or jump. An awesome part of the experience. And the snorkelling, which we did every day, is great and all around you can see lots of tropical fish and the odd turtle. From the deck, watching the mackerel and trumpetfish jumping and chasing schools of small fish was constant entertainment, with the occasional dolphin making an appearance.

The location about midway on the island gave us great opportunity to explore in the rental car which was provided by Doyle and Ada Sands, the 2 Sisters caretakers. We covered lots of beaches, most of which we had to ourselves literally, including Lighthouse Beach, Ten Bay Beach, French Leave Beach, Double Bay Beach (excellent snorkeling there too), Savannah Sound Beach, and so many other idyllic spots. Enjoyed great lunches and dinners at Tippy's and at the Buccaneer Club in Governors Harbour. We enjoyed the views at the Glass Window Bridge, had a soak close to there in the Queen's Pool and visited Harbour Island which (unlike the rest of Eleuthera) is very busy. We also were able to have the awesome experience of attending the Junkanoo on Christmas Day in Gregory Town. Just a great experience able to tour from the 2 Sisters. Almost everything is within an hour's drive. What is most evident about Eleuthera and its people is that it is safe and friendly and so very hospitable.

Any questions or issues we had were quickly addressed by Mimi or Doyle and to sum it up, the service is more than "awesome".

From a very cold Canada, we plan on returning and look forward to doing so.

Wow! Just Wow!

It's difficult to describe how wonderful this property turned out to be for our family vacation. I went into this vacation and property with open expectations. I left the cottage and the island completely relaxed and reconnected to the family. 2 Sisters Cottage is a well equipped house overlooking one of the most picturesque Caribbean views I only dreamt existed. We spent our mornings taking turns diving off the diving board, snorkeling in the clear turquoise blue waters, and dropping a few fishing lines off the dock. The afternoons were spent exploring the more than 100 breathtaking beaches the island has to offer. Night time was spent preparing dinners around the barbecue and kitchen.

Our after dinner routine consisted of taking in a late sunset from the top deck and planning our next day's adventure. We made this vacation about reconnecting with each other and 2 Sisters Cottage was a perfect setting to do this .

The house itself lends itself well to offer both privacy from the outside world as well as convenience to exploring both the north and south end of the island. There is a new food market within two miles that offers all the basics needed if you would like to cook your own meals as we did. It's not easy for us to travel because my wife has a gluten allergy. We chose to prepare our food and found 2 Sisters to offer everything we needed to cook our meals with no issues. For anything more extravagant, Governors Harbour is just north and can offer varying types of stores. The road to the house is typical of all the roads on the island as they are not all paved and tend to be carved out of the natural landscape of the island. It makes for a neat adventure as you explore the island as we found out on the southern part of the island.

We found both Mimi, our gracious owner of the house, and Doyle, the caretaker, to be most helpful in providing both information, directions and local culture.

Mimi, thank you for opening your home to us. It was a perfect vacation and I wouldn't change a thing!

Secluded paradise

Choosing a place to stay on VRBO can be a roll of the dice - but this was a complete winner! If you are going to Eleuthera to enjoy the stunning scenery, snorkeling or diving and swimming and getting away from city stress you will not be disappointed at 2 Sisters. The view is jaw dropping, and the snorkeling right in your backyard is excellent. The house is simple and comfortable, but you should be aware that the only way to get to the downstairs bedrooms from inside the house is via a ship's ladder. There is a metal spiral staircase a few steps outside on the front deck if you aren't comfortable with the ladder. The other thing to be aware of is the road to the house off Queen's Highway is rough, and it takes time to get to the house, but you will be richly rewarded once you get there! The house is clean, and the beds are comfortable, the AC works well. We barbecued twice - we had about everything we needed. There is a great new grocery store nearby that will supply you with anything (except alcohol) that you will need to enjoy your stay. Liquor shop is just down the road. You might consider bringing a collapsible cooler as some of the most spectacular beaches are a drive to get to and there are few amenities, so packing a lunch is a great idea. There are fancier, "see and be seen" spots on the Atlantic side, but if you want a real slice of unspoiled paradise and privacy I highly recommend you stay at 2 Sisters. Eleuthera is a long, skinny island and there are sights to see that take some time to get to, but your trip will be worth it! The beaches are incredible and the people are amazingly friendly and helpful. The island is not overdeveloped, thank God, and Hurricane Andrew set them back so the people are very anxious to make sure you enjoy your stay. The food was generally excellent from the fancy-ish restaurants to the take away conch salad roadside stand. We stayed away from the really ritzy spots - just not our cup of tea, and we have no complaints. If you are adventurous don't miss the Sapphire Blue Hole (near Preacher's Cave) it's a once in a lifetime leap. Most of the big beaches are a drive from the house, but well worth it. Don't miss French Leave Beach, and 10 Bay. If you have time and a car with lots of clearance (and a sense of adventure) try to find Deep Creek Beach. We didn't make it to Lighthouse Beach so we will have to come back! We had a fabulous time at this magical and very special place! Amazing!

A week of Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic place and the views out of this world! We came for 9 days with our two kids (aged 12 and 14) and loved every minute! We loved the cozy house with the bedrooms downstairs and the kitchen/living room upstairs - the views were spectacular and had lots of fun on the diving board! So enjoyed drinking tea in the mornings looking out on the turquoise water ..... it was so peaceful!!! We snorkelled in the cove every day seeing lots of sealife and just loved the privacy - we can't wait to return!

Eleuthera is a beautiful island with lots of great restaurants and wonderful scenery. So many beaches with not a single person on them so we would take a picnic and spend the day!

Can't wait to book another vacation! Thank you!

So special

If you’re looking for nightlife, this isn’t the place for you. If you like having a lot of restaurants and touristy shops nearby, don’t come. But if you’re like us and want a true escape, 2 Sisters is ideal. On arrival, we almost turned around as we bounced down the rutted road to the house thinking we had made a wrong turn. But once you get there and see your private cove, it will all make sense. The house is cozy with everything you need. The full kitchen is fully stocked. We took the advice to bring as much food as we could with us including packaged side dishes, breakfast bars, nuts, etc. Mary said she will also bring frozen meats, but we didn’t try that because of our layover. Groceries are pretty expensive and the selection is sparse on the island. The house is also so remote that you won’t want to make a lot of runs to restaurants. We did eat out several times during the week and the food was fine. But my favorite days and nights were spent enjoying the cove, the private deck, the incredible sunsets and the nights under the stars. We bought fresh fish and lobster, which they call crawfish, from a fisherman that would set up during the week on the water in the nearest township of Governor’s Harbor. Get there right at 2:30 or he sells out. There’s also a small farmer's market a few miles from the house on the left heading into GH. They had some great homemade soups and dips and the vegetables were really fresh.

We did explore the island on several days. Mary has a book filled with good advice on places to go and see. We also met some locals and expats who told us about some great places as well. There aren’t a lot of road signs, and I never even tried to use GPS. Finding out-of-the-way places like Twin Cove Beach just added to the experience. I think we saw two other couples the whole afternoon we were there.

We rented an “island car” from Doyle, the housekeeper. It was actually an old SUV with scratches all down the sides. It ran fine and had good AC though. And after a few trips to some of the beaches, we were glad for the scratches. Some of the roads are so narrow that you can’t help but brush against the tree limbs.

We will definitely be back. Oh, and Mary has great taste in music. We had fun digging through all the old cds and playing them on the little tv in the living room.

Why Mary Winston chose Savannah Sound

2 Sisters is situated on the cliffs of Little Bay. The cove is quiet and isolated. Most of the time you will have it entirely to yourselves with only an occasional passing boater

What makes this cottage unique

We have a DIVING BOARD on our waterfront deck!!! Absolutely the most fun entry into the clear blue Caribbean waters you can imagine. Also a fabulous spot to sit above the sea and enjoy your private aquarium to view all kinds of sea creatures meandering by. The water depth below the diving board varies with the tides 10-14 ft

Guestbook comments from the owner

It was a very relaxing trip and your location is

AMAZING! My husband and I loved the snorkeling especially around the

bend to the north where the fallen rocks are. It was beautiful! Oh how

I wish it was lobster season when we were there! I could not believe

how many we saw in and around the rocks right in front of the house. We

were fortunate enough to follow an octopus for a while one day as well

as come across a spotted moray eel in some rocks right off the deck.

Not to mention the hundreds of groupers, angel fish, was some

of the best snorkeling we've done in the Bahamas!

Car: recommended

Little Bay is located in central Eleuthera about midway between Governors Harbor and Tarpum Bay,. The area is famous for numerous beautiful deserted beaches and gin clear ocean water- a blue that defies description in words. Natural beauty abounds, though services such as restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations are close by and easily accessible. You will find the locals extremely helpful and friendly.
