More than meets the eye...

  • 5 of 5

We booked a last minute Labor Day weekend getaway, meeting friends half way between Boise and Salt Lake City. Our top choices were already booked, but we thought this looked like it would be clean and comfortable, we weren't sure about the location. Jim's place blew us away. He has really created the perfect mountain retreat.... From a well maintained beach area, to a killer fire pit with rigged cooking mechanisms, to the little trails he has carved out around the cabins. We brought way more than we needed because the cabin and places around were well stocked and ready for guests to enjoy. Perfect for families! You won't regret your stay at the River Cabin, you'll be sure to create memories that will last a lifetime!

Relaxing Cabin, Great Location, Attentive Host

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the River Cabin on the Southfork of the Boise River.

Accommodations: The cabin was so nice and inviting. Everything in the listing was available including a washer, coffee pot, oven, linens, cookware, dining table, and couch. We did not find ourselves in need of anything additional. Even the front and back porches had benches and chairs to sit on and we enjoyed utilizing these areas to take advantage of the cool mornings and evenings. The decor was outdoor themed and helped set the mood for a great wilderness experience.

Recreation: The cabin is situated on a nicely improved bit of private land. Jim has maintained trails and marked them with signage. The trails go to the improved fire pits (there are two), the beach, and a beaver pond. The fire pit areas have log bench seating. The beach is a nice area right on the river bend where he has set up a canopy with chairs and there are intertubes for floating the river. Unfortunately, the extreme winter and extra high river waters have washed out much of the trail to the beaver pond but we still took a short adventure down that way. Jim said he plans to repair it soon. With the river literally in the cabin's backyard, you don't even have to leave the property to fish. Outside of the cabin property, there are many more hiking trails and fishing spots. We hiked up Emma Creek and Bear Creek. We visited Big Smoky and fished many of these areas, catching at least a dozen fish during our stay.

Wildlife: There is also plenty of opportunity to view wildlife on and around the cabin property. We saw several deer, a moose, and a herd of 750 sheep. Evidently there is a wolf den about 4 miles from the cabin. We were thankful not to encounter them during our stay. :)

Host: Jim was such an attentive host. He and his adorable dog Bleu rode by and checked on the property each day. One morning, they stopped by to inform us that a moose was wandering the property so we could see it. He helped direct us to an optimal location for viewing the total solar eclipse. We appreciated his attention to detail and his efforts to help us have a wonderful vacation!

Directions: The directions provided to the cabin were on point and we had no trouble finding it.

Great Family get a way

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time relaxing and exploring the amazing Sawtooth Mountains while staying at the cabin. The cabin was clean and wonderfully decorated. However, the highlight of the trip was meeting Jim. He was a gracious host who went out of his way to make sure we had an amazing time. We highly recommend this cabin as a great place to get away from the world if even for a few days.

The perfect place to relax

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful time at Jim's cabin. We could not have asked for a more beautiful setting. The cabin itself was very comfortable, clean, and with all of the needed amenities for a family with three little kids. My children really enjoyed sleeping up in the loft. Listening to the river while sitting on the porch with a book was one of our favorite morning and evening activities. The surrounding property had so much area to explore. The beach along the river was a great place to relax and let the kids play while still enjoying the beautiful scenery. Jim was a very thoughtful host. It was obvious he wanted to make sure our stay was as good as it could be, and he definitely succeeded. We hope to return again next summer!

Fabulous, very special place

  • 5 of 5

We, 6 girl friends, get together every July at Pettit Lake but this year the cabin was being remodeled so we had to come up with another option for our retreat. So through VRBO we found this cabin in the wilderness area close to us in Ketchum, Idaho. It met our expectations and more.......we will recommend to our friends and families. Jim was the BEST and a great help in many ways.

Incredible. I selfishly want to keep this secret to myself, but I must be honest with my fellow man.

This place rocks. If you have ever thought how it might feel to enjoy the privacy of living " in the last house at the end of a dirt road", then this is your opportunity to try it out.

My family arrived with some reservations about the thought of living off the grid. Actually their concerns were far more than just concerns. When it was time to pack up and leave, everyone wanted to stay.

Great experience. Great Great location! With all of the praise that I might want to heap on to this place, I would be doing this review a major disservice if I didn't highlight our brilliant host Jim. He keeps this property in an obvious continuous state of constant improvement, he is 100% committed to making sure his guests (you) are not in need of anything he can possibly provide. Jim somehow is not seen, but on hand if you might want for something. Local knowledge, forgotten flashlight. Jim is a true gift. You will certainly go home, knowing you have just made a new friend. I do not say this litely. An awesome man for sure.

With as many places there are yet to be experienced on this beautiful earth, I tend to say, "no reruns please". This place needs to be taken in again for our family.

Make sure to consider everything you need before you depart, as there is not an AM/PM nearby for a Slurpeeor a pinch of salmon seasoning. However don't underestimate Jims ability to somehow produce a Slurpee.

Life offers no guarantees, but this is a slam dunk pleasure.i dare you not to enjoy your stay here.

Please don't reserve this destination during times that I am considering my return. 😉
