We are retired teachers who love to travel. We reside in Cape Cod, but we try to visit Moose Crossing during the Autumn and Summer months. It is a very special place and our Labs Bucky and Bear consider it to be their 'real' home. Bear loves to swim in our River and both dogs enjoy running in the surrounding fields and enjoying the wildlife. Bear had his first 'encounter' with a porcupine this summer and has sworn that he will never go near one again; he was quilled, poor guy!But he is fine now and looking forward to going back to the Cape with his buddies.
Mike and Connie Kain purchased this cabin in 2008
It is our own 'piece of Paradise' and it makes us feel happy and calm. We watch Bald Eagles fly overhead and circle the River. Occasionally deer and wild turkeys come around, and yes we have been visited by a magnificent Bull Moose!
Moose Crossing is in an isolated location that is very close to all that you need. It is the only home in an area that was to be custom homes and the landscape is just as it was 100 years ago, with the exception of Dish TV and wireless, and the addition of gravel roads that are easy to traverse. Nearby there are Grocery Stores, Restaurants, Antique Shops, Auction Houses and Flea Markets, Movie Theatre, Golf and much much more.
My husband and I chose this home because the photos made it look so warm and inviting. It certainly was that and more. Connie, the owner, has decorated every room carefully and cleverly, with a theme related to its wooded surroundings. It was very private, something we wanted, and somewhat isolated. I had feared that it would be too isolated but was pleased to find that that was not so. Nearby Bucksport had all of the basics that we needed: a super market, hardware store, lobster shack, ice cream store, fairly good restaurant and even walking path beside the river.
I communicated several times with Connie and she was always very nice and flexible. I felt as though I knew her by the time we left.
One warning: the cabin is air conditioned but only with window units. The living area downstairs includes wonderful two-story floor-to-ceiling windows which capture the view beautifully. However, it can get quite warm in the afternoons and the units don't really keep up. This is a problem only on unseasonably warm days.
The photos on this site do not do justice to the house. The house was absolutely beautiful. The living room had wonderful views over the river and a lovely wood burning fireplace. The kitchen was very well stocked and even had a slow cooker which we didn't use, but I have rarely seen one in a cabin rental. The master bedroom was beautifully decorated down to the flower arrangement on the wall and the intricate stenciling at the top of the walls. The master bathroom was a good size and I loved the fact there was a separate shower. The great room is in the lower part of the house where we watched tv in the evenings and again the furnishings and decor are lovely. The house has been decorated with care and it shows. There is a covered porch and an open deck where you could have morning coffee or an evening cocktail. We were lucky to have a bar b q one evening and viewed a lovely sunset from the deck. I loved the fact there was a gate at the end of the porch which meant the dog had freedom whilst outside and I didn't have to worry about her running off. Connie was wonderful to deal with and to be honest I can't speak highly enough about our stay.
Aahhhh! We enjoyed peace and quiet, fresh air, and the
beauty of nature. The fall foliage colors were evident from all windows,
and especially from the large, wrap around deck where I sipped my
morning coffee as the mist rose off the river.
The beautiful home was exceedingly well-maintained
and clean, with all the amenities we needed, and spacious enough for our
large family (5 kids). There were plenty of places to walk and explore,
from the house and within easy driving distance. We climbed
Mt. Megunticook, and visited nearby beaches. We loved our stay, and
would highly recommend this comfortable home to other families.
Great house for a family to share. With 3 floors there is plenty of privacy. A bathroom on each floor adds to the comfort and convenience. We saw bald eagles and a Mama deer with fawn. Very peaceful place. We went to Bar Harbor for the day and took a cruise. We would definitely stay at this house again.
Everything was as is or better based on the descriptions and pictures posted by the owners. The place was clean and there were helpful instructions everywhere (and a nice binder with nearby amenities and attractions). Would stay again if we ever head back to Maine.
Wonderful area! Antique shops, Flea Markets, Church suppers, Beautiful Arts and Crafts, Golf, cross country skiing and much more! Nearby Rockland hosts a world famous Lobster festival Belfast Art Galleries have 'Open House' on Friday nights. Nearby Fort Knox is famous for it's Medieval Fair, Scottish Tatoo and Pirate weekends! Not to be missed is the Historic Penobscot Maritine Museum in Searsport. Camden is just a 45 minute drive and has wonderful Sculpture and Art Galleries. Bangor (1/2 hour) has a Casino and the Water front hosts an Annual Folk concert. Rockport (1/2 hour ) is a charming Artists Community. Finally, Acadia Park is just 1 hour away and is world famous for it's mountain Vista surrounded by Ocean views. Close to Acadia is Bar Harbor with it's cruise ships, whale watching, Schooners and Sight seeing boats. Midcoastal Maine has everything!
