About Sherri Mansell

My husband and I have 4 children ages 12 - 25 and live in South Florida. We have vacationed in western NC for over 25 years where my parents have a home.

Sherri Mansell purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Sherri Mansell chose Asheville Area

We chose this location in Black Mountain because it's a very quaint town with great restaurants and so close to the city of Asheville with airport, universities and culture events.

What makes this cabin unique

What we love best about our property is that we are located in the mountains surrounded by nature but have the luxuries of home and only 10 minutes to the grocery store and other amenities.

Great Vacation!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had the greatest time at the Preserve cabin! We loved staying there. It was so spacious it allowed us to take another family along with us. The cabin was beyond clean. It really had everything we could have asked for. The property was Awesome! We loved taking hikes along the trails on the property. I even got to relax and hangout in the hammock and read. After hiking and running around all day, the jacuzzi was a super plus! The location is perfect. Asheville was so close and there were so many fun activities around. We ended up going Zip Lining and another park for a TreeTop Adventure. The whole family had a blast and everyone participated. It is the perfect vacation for all ages. (My kids are 11, 14 and 16) We loved going to town which was 10 minutes away and we had really good meals. We loved the Ale House and they had a band playing great music, it was fun. In addition to eating out, we also enjoyed cooking in your kitchen because it has everything. I even needed a blender for one of my meals and you had it in the cabin. We really enjoyed both staying in and going out to eat. I was concerned before we got there that we would not have internet but your wifi worked perfectly so when I needed to work on my computer, I was able to get through everything quickly without problems so I could go back and enjoy my family on our vacation. It is a beautiful Cabin. It was a Great Vacation and it was because we stayed at the most perfect place! The HighRock Preserve!!!!!! We can't wait to go back!!!!

Our two familys (5+4) had a wonderful time. The cabin has all of the modern amenities, and the sleeping accommodations are very comfortable. The property is also really nice, especially the outdoor firepit. There are a couple of nice trails on the property - perfect for younger kids because they're not very long. If you are looking for longer/more aggressive hiking, do some research to find some local trails.

Owner's Response: We enjoy hearing that our guests had a wonderful time and enjoyed the trails on the property. If you are looking for longer trials, we recommend Chimney Rock or Montreat trails, both 20 minutes from our property as well as many others in the area.

Nice cabin! Beautiful property! Do not rent if you have a small car (very rough terrain to get to cabin, approx 1 mile off paved road: rocks, dirts, holes, steep hills). A couple things I do have to say of the house that I didn't like were that a lot of the light bulbs were blown. Being out in the middle of nowhere with no street lights, it got very dark at night. Also, the hot tub wasn't working. That was a main reason I rented this cabin, and to not be able to use it was a very big let down. If I had known that we weren't able to use it, we would have stayed at a hotel. Another thing that isn't great about this cabin is that it was not marked well at all. With there being no street lights, the house should have a LARGE #26 on the front/side of it to alert renters which cabin is which. My friends and I had a very difficulty time finding the house at night when we first arrived.

Overall, great cabin to stay in if you had four-wheel drive and like the outdoors. Hiking is local and very pretty in the mountain! Asheville is approx 30 minutes away, but easy drive. Make sure the hot tub is in working condition before arriving! ;-)

Owner's Response: We do understand that the renter was disappointed about the hot tub not working. We did everything possible to get a repair person out as soon as possible, but unfortunately there was a 3 day wait list. We did provide the renter a partial refund due to the circumstance, and also offered a discount on any future stay as well. The renter advised us how much they like the property, but never conveyed their preference to stay in a hotel due to the hot tub not working. Had we known upon their check in, we would have offered them the hotel option and refunded their payment. We only found out about the maintenance issue just a few hours before their arrival when our property manager inspected the site. There is a mile gravel road to the property but four wheel drive is only required in the winter months (late Dec - Feb) in case of snow. We rent small cars when we visit the property, and are able to access the cabins without difficulty. A little bumpy ride to a nature paradise with a large pond, creeks and trails on the property! Mountain driving is certainly different than city driving. We thanked the renter for advising of the burnt light bulbs. We immediately replaced all of them and also invested in LED bulbs so hopefully they will be longer lasting. We appreciate when renters advise us timely of any maintenance concerns so we may fix them immediately. We do our best to maintain the cabins like NEW!

Great cabin home!

  • 5 of 5

We recently had our family reunion in Black Mountain, and rented adjacent 3 cabin homes from Sherri. All 3 of the homes (Preserve, Meadow, and Retreat) were in excellent condition, and were well stocked with cookware, games, books/magazines and linens. We enjoyed hanging out for dinners with the whole crew at each house, both indoors and out on the decks. The Preserve and Retreat had fun game rooms for the kids/adults to gather, and the pond and horseshoe area were good meeting spots. The Retreat was the largest of the 3 homes, and has a gorgeous view of the mountains - great for big dinners out on the deck. The one drawback was the steep gravel driveway to get to the homes, and it was difficult for the older adults to walk between the houses up the hill. We came from far and wide - California, NY and Florida, and everyone truly enjoyed the homes and location!
