About sherri mansell

My husband and I have 4 children ages 12 to 25 and live in South Florida. We have vacationed in western NC for over 25 years where my parents have a home.

sherri mansell purchased this cabin in 2008

Why sherri mansell chose Black Mountain

We chose this location in Black Mtn because it's a very quaint town with great restaurants and so close to the city of Asheville with an airport, university and culture events.

What makes this cabin unique

What we love best about our property is that we are located in the mountains and surrounded by nature, but only 10 minutes to the grocerty store and other amenities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your beautiful mountain home gave us wonderful memories...thanks you from my heart for the chance to enjoy a warm fire, sit on your porch and listen to morning, hike the streams and hills of North Carolina...I am restored and refreshed. I hope you keep sharing this beautiful place on earth...I count myself among the lucky ones. Thanks,

Excellent, relaxing, beautiful, clean, spacious, retreat-feel, want to come back!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from staying at your beautiful Highrock Meadow cabin. It was absolutely beautiful, and we fell in love with Black Mountain and North Carolina! We would recommend your home to anyone we knew coming to this area. You all did an incredible job having it built, and it was so difficult to leave! it looks brand new.

Our weather was perfect and we were able to enjoy the property and the cabin in addition to going white water rafting on a 9 mile level 4 trip on the French Broad River; zip line in the canopies of the mountains; spend a day at the Biltmore estate and ride horses at their stables; spend a portion of the next day at Chimney Rock followed by the joy of shopping and dining in Black Mountain. We absolutely loved the Red Rocker Inn (family favorite!) and My Father's Pizza per your suggestion. We also enjoyed Que Sera in Black Mountain and Tupelo Honey Café for dinner in downtown Asheville. The book of information you provided in the cabin was so incredibly helpful.

We would come back in a heartbeat. Playing horseshoes, roasting s'mores in the firepit by the pond and hiking on the neaby trail on our final night was a highlight as well. Our children, ages 16 (female) and 11 (male), equally loved it too.

Thank you again for allowing us to be guests in your beautiful home. Great vacation!

Prichard Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful family reunion. What a perfect place to have it. We went to the Biltmore, White water rafting, hiking trails and enjoyed downtown Black Mountain's shops. There was so much to do at the cabin that we just stayed and enjoyed ourselves there too. Plenty to do for the kids too( they loved the campfires) The hot tub was a bonus. The cabin is beautiful and cozy at the same time. Everything you would need is there. It was awesome to just sit on the porch rockers and enjoy the view. Thanks again for sharing your home away from home. Paul and Debbie

Secluded, Tranquil, Rustic Cabin In the Mountains

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is comfortable, cozy, and well appointed. The pond and fire pit out front offer a great space for relaxing in the evening with a camp fire. The trails beyond the pond, once we found them, were a delight. There are a number of great activities in the area and Asheville is a fun day trip.

However there are a few things you need to know before you go. It is remote, a good 15 minutes down some rough roads to get anywhere off the mountain. Although this is mentioned in the materials the owners send to renters, if you have AT&T cell phones you do NOT have any service on the mountain. When we arrived the Internet router had been changed and the information in the guest book had not been updated. We had to drive down the mountain to get service to call to get the new internet information. I placed the new information in the guest book.

Overall we had a great time and I would recommend the cabin.

Owner's Response: It's great to hear that the renters found this luxury cabin well appointed and enjoyed the Western Carolina area - so much to enjoy for all ages! There is a 1.5 mile gravel road to the property that takes 4-5 minutes to travel. and then it's 4.5 miles paved road to downtown Black Mountain. Although the gravel road is a little bumpy, 2 wheel drive is acceptable except in winter months in case of snow. We send a Welcome Letter with additional cabin information to all renters upon receipt of their final payment. That information specifically states when Four Wheel drive is required and also explains the cell phone communications on the Mountain, it states "Most all cell phones work in the cities of Western North Carolina (Asheville, Black Mountain, Hendersonville, Swannanoa, etc…). As you get closer to High Rock Acres and on the property, only Verizon or US Cellular will continue to work . . .". The renters are accurate that the internet password was not in our cabin manual. This was our mistake and very embarrassing. We had ATT and the service was inconsistent and poor, so we had just changed (a few days prior) to a new service (Hughes.net) to provide better connection for our guests. The new password is listed on the side of the router, but was not listed in the cabin instruction manual so the guests did not know where to find the password. The manuals have now been updated.

Beautiful!

Our family had a great time! It was a beautiful cottage with absolutely everything one would need, and the scenery was a perfect mix of feeling secluded, yet also still nearby civilization. A perfect location for our family's stay...thank you!

Perfect mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved every minute of our stay. We especially enjoyed the firepit at the pond and the trails inside the property line. The roads getting back to the property can be a little treacherous at first but not bad once you've made the trek a couple of times. The cabin itself was great. Very clean and well maintained. Included everything you need for a week's stay.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay. The gravel road can get bumpy at times but they are graded regularly. It sure beats driving in city and dealing with continuous traffic jams, and the end result is nature’s paradise. Two wheel drive vehicles are acceptable except in case of snow/ice (late Dec to end Feb 4 wheel drive is required). Hope you had the opportunity to see the many stars at night which is something we miss in the city.

Welcoming and Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our time at High Rock Meadow cabin! We found it to be sufficiently clean, well maintained and well supplied. The pond, hammock and trails provided lots of fun for our kids. We were able to explore lots in Asheville and Black Mountain. Thanks so much!
