Forest Lakes Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin # 2 at Harolds Resort

Harolds Resort Is located.. at the end of the road.. off the highway, in the woods and surrounded by Spider Lake on 3 sides. Go back in time to a much simpler time. Take a break from the crazy life and relax. Fish, Swim, Bon Fires, RELAX. Play some games with the kids, RELAX. Cook dinner on your own Grill right at your own Cabin on the Lake RELAX. Each cabin comes with a Row Boat ( Memorial Day - October ) Rent a 5hp outboard motor for the row boat and go fishing or a Pontoon boat for exploring the 459 acres of Spider Lake with all of it's bays, coves, islands, sandbars and sandy bottom warm swimming holes. Read our 69+ reviews at property # 158840 & look at the RATES section to see what we have open each week. This listing concentrates on Cabins 1 - located on the Point of our Private Peninsula. We also have 6 others, ASK me which is best for you.. Sorry, no pets on the property please.. not even to visit ..thanks !

Family Quality Time: Bring the family up for some quality time. Bring them to a place that time forgot. Remember going up north to the lake as a child? Well bring your children to the same place. Bring them to a place for some good ole fashion R & R. Bring your favorite board games, books, deck of cards, beach toys and fishing poles. I bet they don't ask for a TV all week... a miracle... After fishing, and swimming and chasing each other around, after dinner and a bonfire with roasted marshmallows and s'mores... they'll hit the hay and never even notice the TV is not there. Rainy day -- that's when the games come out... or a trip to town to the Children's Museum - waves of wonder, or just a wet day outside... even if it wasn't raining, they'd be wet... right?!!! Rainy days are when the fish bite best... so hopefully you'll get at least one while you are here. We love pets, BUT they are not allowed on the property and will be asked to leave.

You don't need the whole family to:: Come up to the North Woods for a Color Tour Weekend - everywhere you go up here is a 'Color Tour' - cruise the lake on a pontoon boat (rentals available here) visit a winery, casino, or fabulous restaurant - we have plenty in the area. Hiking and Mountain Bike Trails nearby for a real color tour thru the Pere Marquette State Forest. This cabin will accommodate one couple, and we have 7 cabins here - and we have other accommodations on Spider Lake for larger groups too, Ask about a Cozy Log Cabin with Fireplace viewable from bed with special linens and comforters and your own private Hot Tub on the Screened in Porch ! ( see property # 158840 for HOT TUB CABINS)

Traverse City has never been a better place to visit. And having your own little cabin in the woods is the best way to truly experience the north woods.

About Kathy Schliess

We came to Harolds Resort in the Fall of 1989 and fell in love with it and the whole area - found out it was 'For Sale' - bought it and moved here in April 1990. We have raised our 2 sons here and now we have 2 grandsons.

UPDATE:

It is with a broken heart that I tell you of the passing of my husband Rolf on Friday, January 29, 2016. He passed unexpectedly and peacefully. He loved Harolds Resort as much as I do, and I will continue to run the Resort with extra help from my boys, and local contractors. His spirit is alive and well everywhere I go. In and around the Cabins and Resort property, I see his handy work, his blood, sweat and tears. Our goal was to always have a place where families and couples could come and spend quality time together, doing the simple things, and that goal has never been stronger or more important. If you knew Rolf, don’t be sad, be happy for what he did have and what he left behind, because he left it to me, to share with you... Kathy

Kathy Schliess purchased this cabin in 1990

Why Kathy Schliess chose Traverse City

At the end of the road, off the highway, in the woods ! When you are here you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. But easy access to Traverse City and all the wonderful things it has to offer.

What makes this cabin unique

No TV's, No Microwaves - Just good ole fashion family fun ! Swimming, Fishing, Bon Fires - just as you remember from your own childhood !

Excellent, amazing cabins on beautiful spider lake

  • 5 of 5

Great opportunity to get away and relax! It comes with your own row boat for each cabin and you can rent a pontoon and really get out on Spider Lake! Very clean, clear lake friendly people and atmosphere. Cabins were cute, clean and adorable. We didn't want to leave...:)

Quaint and warm cabin on the lake

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was lovely and had everything one needs to get away for a while. The cabin was neat and tidy and it was clear that the owner put extra effort in the details making sure we had everything we needed and understood where everything was. I was particularly impressed when the one bed had a bed rail on it for my toddler so she wouldn't fall out along with a children's book. It was clear Cathy took the time to make sure we had what we needed to enjoy our stay. Also, they were extremely kind when my husband ran out of gas on the way to the store and got him from the side of the road and got him to the gas station so we wouldn't have to leave the car there over night! We can't thank them enough for the amazing hospitality and lovely place!

Owner's Response: We have been in the Family Vacation Business here at Harolds Resort for 25 years. We give personalized service. If we know the ages of your kids, what activities are on your "to do list", any special needs.. we try to be a step ahead of you. You can come here and get your quiet, private and secluded R & R and never see us and be totally "on your own" and that's ... OK ! Or we'll be that 1 extra person you need for your volleyball game ! If we ran out of gas in the dark unfamiliar forest - we would want someone to rescue us.. and that is what we did for them. We treated them, like we would want to be treated. And that's how it should be everywhere ! Kathy

Very relaxing vacation!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our time at Harold's resort very much. The cabin was clean and well equipped. It was ready when we arrived and we felt right at home. It is very seculded and great for those looking to get away. The provided row boats are great too, however we struggle to catch much fish! The owners checked in on us our first full day and they seemed ready to help if we needed anything.

Our Special Place

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful lake and perfect location. On the lake but also still in the woods. The accommodations make staying there easy. Went here on our honeymoon and liked it so much we came back for a stay on out 5 year anniversary. Pleased to say that it hasn't changed! Still the same great getaway we enjoyed so much the first time.

Owner's Response: Thank you for choosing Harolds Resort 5 years ago for your Honeymoon. And starting your life off on the right foot.. spending quality time here together. Everything we do, we have "you" in mind, I listen, I read, I dream, I imagine... all so I can have this wonderful place for you to come when you can. Every couple needs some "alone time" and it's wonderful to vacation with the kids too.. but don't forget.. it's OK to come here with out them ! Hope it's not as long as 5 years before we "see you" again ! Kathy

Peaceful, Tranquil, RELAXING!

  • 5 of 5

Harold's Cabin was the perfect place to get away and relax. Particularly in the winter, the cabin is pretty isolated, so you really feel like you have time to THINK! The fireplace keeps the cabin at a perfect temperature, and the bed is extremely cozy. I loved the little touches that Kathy left: the cinnamon tea, coconut body wash, the local information (you can tell she knows the area!).

Within a short drive, you can get into town (Don's Drive-In is close, and the food is terrific!). Downtown Traverse City was about 30 minutes for me, and this was under pretty bad road conditions. It was awesome to experience Traverse City in the winter; it was quiet, but everything was open. I went to the Bayou Theatre, which I strongly recommend -- the staff is extremely nice and welcoming, and the theatre is adorable and cozy. Also drove up to the Old Mission Lighthouse, about an hour drive in the weather, but so worth it! Along the way, you will drive next to the Bay and pass vineyards and road stands selling cherries, syrup, etc.

Overall, a wonderful experience - can't wait to return in the summer!

Owner's Response: Yes Winter is Special - even more of a Quiet, Private and Secluded feeling especially coming during the week - you may be the only one here ! And even though you feel isolated in the woods, it's a very safe place to be - so relax and enjoy ! This one was brave to venture out during a Winter Weather Advisory - but if you take is slow and aren't in a hurry, and stop and "smell the roses" along the way - you will not only make it to your destination but will find some gems along the way - just like she did. Long Overdue Review

  • 1 of 5

Forgive the delay in writing this review. My sister and I drove up to Michigan from MO for a kayaking vacation and booked Cabin #1 at this "resort". It was poorly maintained with torn screens, worn-out mattresses and some type of animal feces under the dresser in the common area. I dropped a rock and it rolled under this dresser on the 5th day of our stay - disgusting. This caused us to look under our dressers and beds!!! Uugghh! PLEASE hire a cleaning person. We stayed out of the cabin as much as possible during our week there. Why did we stay? The lake is lovely, we had prepaid and had driven 1000 miles already. This could be such a nice place if it were properly cleaned and updated. We have no plans to return EVER. Please email me if you'd like photos of the dirt and disrepair.

Owner's Response: First we want to apologize to these guests for this experience. It is obviously not the experience we want our guests to have. We are disappointed that we were not told of this for months. We would like to know about any problems ASAP and have a chance to correct them. Over our 25 years here we have worked hard to maintain and clean the cabins and give our guests a true Up North, On the Lake, In the Woods experience at this one of a kind beautiful spot. Nothing like this has ever happened in our 25 years here. We have 6 listings here at “Homeaway” with 12 other reviews here at this listing and a total of over 100 reviews for all 6 and if you read them all.. Nothing has ever happened like this before. And now that we know about this, you can bet that we will make sure it never does. You can always contact us for a personal explanation. Kathy
