Lattice House is the ultimate tropical villa. Set in a 60 acre private reserve, 3 minutes above beautiful Playa Hermosa, surrounded by jungle, you will enjoy spectacular ocean views from every room, from the decks, and the infinity pool.

Enjoy its unique Bali modern architecture, and custom-designed finishes and furnishings, all imported from Bali.Lattice House was built and has been lovingly maintained as my home, and you will feel as though it is your own private paradise for you stay.

You will have an onsite manager/concierge to take care of your ground transportation, activities, catering, restaurant reservations, so that you can spend all your time just enjoying your stay.

Lattice House is conveniently located half-way between Dominical and Uvita, right off the coast highway. You won’t have to spend your valuable vacation time driving up and down mountain roads to enjoy incredible views and privacy. The reserve encompasses large park-like spaces, orchards, and even more area maintained as jungle, with trails leading to numerous streams and waterfalls. In any direction, you see only white water coastline, mountains, or rain forest. On any given day, you may see (and hear) howler and white-face monkeys, coaties, tayras, agouties, sloths, toucans, aracaries, hummingbirds, parrots, and dozens of other bird species, all from the house decks.

Lattice House is a spectacular place, and I am happy to share it with our guests.

The master bedroom (king) and bedroom/office (double daybed) and two full baths are on the main level; two bedrooms (one queen, two twins) and a full bath are on the lower level. There are two sofas in the living room that can be used as additional beds.

About Patricia (Pat) Williamson

My late husband and I purchased the property in 2000, and finished our retirement home in 2007. We loved the whole 3 year process of working with the Costa Rican and Balinese architects and designers and overseeing the building of our dream home. We originally planned to live there full-time, but that was before 15 grandchildren came along, and we decided to split time between Costa Rica and Houston/Galveston. Unfortunately, he did not live long after Lattice House was completed, and I decided to spend more time at my home in Galveston, near family and friends, and to share my home in Costa Rica with others who will love it as much as I do. I still get to spend about 3 months a year there--mostly in the summer when I can escape the Texas heat! I have wonderful friends there and treasure every minute I am there. We have wonderful times---hiking, swimming, boogie boarding, bird watching, and sharing wonder meals at home and in local restaurants. The picture is from a dinner at Lattice House on my trip last summer--me in the middle rear, surrounded by some of my closest Costa Rican friends who are fortunate to be full-timers and Michael McCoy, second from the right front, from Bali, who was the primary designer and who continues to send new furnishings. Since that picture, he has had made for me beautiful new coconut dining chairs. Lattice House and Reserva de Achiote are my love, and all the rental income goes to its upkeep and improvement.

Patricia (Pat) Williamson purchased this villa in 2000

Why Patricia (Pat) Williamson chose Puntarenas

My husband and I wanted to retire to the tropics and in the early 90's started looking in Costa Rica. We loved the idea that it was so democratic and had no army. The first place we visited in 1993 was Dominical, but at that time there was no paved road from Jaco, and we decided it was just too remote for our later years. We looked all over CR, and by the time we decided no place was as beautiful as the southern Pacific coast, the road had been paved to Quepos and there were a few crucial amenities. We spent 3 years looking at property and finally in 2000 found Achiote, the most beautiful, accessible, and private property in the area. I retired in 2005, and the next day we were on a plane to our paradise.

so fantastic it made me cry!

This is going to take awhile.....I have so much to say about this stunning property. Following the homeowners very specific directions, you come upon the driveway into the property and it looks hidden and non descript. You turn off the coastal road and enter the property through a simple gate.......then you're eyes start to buldge because you can't believe this is where you have come to stay. A beautiful upward curving manicured tropical drive is lined with palm trees. This goes on for a good half of a mile as you ascend the reserve-like (I think it is a reserve - 50 acers) property. Then you see the house. Wow. I said to myself, "All my hard work in finding the perfect house for the perfect family vacation (my parents included) and I DID IT!" The house is soooo perfect. The photos say it all. It should be in architectural digest (remember David Bowie's house in Bali - this is as close as you'll come to it without traveling over the pacific). The views are stunning and dramatic. This is a great location for a photo shoot. I am an architectural designer and this was nirvana! I took soooo many pictures and hope to put them up on this site if there is a way to share them. Stop your search, I have done it for you (40 hours of house hunting - no kidding!) This is the place for you! The house itself is peaceful and secluded. Several mornings I woke up early and hiked up behind the house into the ancient forest to discover tree frogs, monkeys and toucans The dining is great in the dominical area and grocery shopping is 10 mins down the road. The caretakers are very enthusiastic and a wealth of information. Dominical is the place to go because it is still the unspoiled true Costa Rica. This may be over the top as far as a review but when you have a vacation this great after putting in so much time and energy you feel like you've won the Oscar for travel planning.

The small print: I am in no way related to or knew the homeowners when I booked this house. I just loved it in the photos and made the contact!

You won't be disappointed!

Consider yourself lucky to have the opportunity of staying at Lattice House. The design, view and amenities are tip-top. Ana, the house manager, was great and provided an excellent introduction to the house as well as some great tips for places to eat and things to see. The owner, Patricia, was a pleasure to deal with and promptly responded to all of my emails.

There's lots to do in the area but our favorites were: horse back riding, zip lining, hiking, visiting the beaches, an inexpensive but excellent massage in Dominical and just hanging out at the house reading a book by the pool.

The area is not overly developed (no high-rise condos or hotels here!), has very good restaurants and places to stock up. Wildlife abounds.

We'll definitely be coming back!

Lattice House was a Costa Rica paradise!!

  • 5 of 5

The Lattice Housd was AMAZING!! The house manager, Ana, was awesome! She arranged us transportation from and back to the San Jose airport for our 2 families, for a total of 8 people (kids ranged from 14-17 in age). She also arranged for us to have rental cars delivered to the house. (This is a must to get around the area and explore! - 4 WD is highly recommended for several places we went to.) The evening of our arrival, she meet us at the house and arranged for us to have dinner prepared (full course meal - and they cook an clean up!) by a local lady named Alexandria! She was amazing and it was very reasonably priced for what we got compared to cooking ourselves or going out to dinner!! Well worth it!! We had her come back 2-3 additional times!! One of the best things we did!!!

Ana showed us all around the house! It's gorgeous! The master suite was incredible! The other 3 bedrooms are very roomy and comfortable as well! There are 2 queen rooms and a room with 2 twins! Perfect for our families! All bedrooms were air conditioned! The kitchen was very nice and well stocked! The pool and back porch area is where we stayed the whole time if we were at the house! We ate most of our meals out there too! The infinity pool was incredible! Everyone loved it! The view to the ocean was amazing and breath taking! Couldn't get over it every morning how beautiful it was!!

The beaches are very close! Just down the driveway and a short distance down towards Uvita! But check out all the local beaches! They are incredible!! The property has several hiking trails and a waterfall and tons of wildlife!! We saw monkeys, birds, and tons of other stuff every morning! Our kids loved doing that more than hanging out at the beach! They loved exploring and hiking to waterfalls! But they loved the beach (whales tail especially) too! Plays Ventanas was very fun too! We also took a day to do Antonio Manuel national park! Go early and spend all day!!

Ana also arranged our 2 excursions. We did horseback riding to Nauyaca Waterfslls!! Along with the horseback riding adventure, we got a light breakfast and a full lunch!! The price was a bargain for everything we got on this experience! It was amazing!! Most of us climbed the waterfall and jumped off and swam in the water! It was very fun!! The guides assist with that as well! The other excursion was Osa Canopy Tours! It was incredible! We loved it!! This was by far one of the best vacations we've ever taken!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND

This was our second stay at Lattice House........and we RARELY go back to the same place twice.

  • 5 of 5

We travel to the tropics one to two times a year and generally try and find new places to explore. Lattice House and the Uvita/Dominical area are the one exception. The house, the grounds, the view, the wildlife and this area of Costa Rica are breathtaking. If you enjoy nature or just want a place to relax this is absolutely the place for you. Pat and Ana are great to work with and they truly want you to have the best vacation of your life. If you're considering Lattice House for your next vacation we highly recommend you book now as you won't be disappointed. We are already trying to decide when we can go there next.

Trip of a Lifetime

  • 5 of 5

Lattice House was a Dream come True!

Coming up the drive and you have a feeling come over you that you made the right choice in a vacation rental. The long drive of a manicured orchard and estate is so beautiful! When you get to the house and see the Pacific and infinity pool you don’t ever want to leave.

Ana is awesome! There was a security guard during the evening and night, so you always felt safe. The house is beautifully designed with an open air feel. The house is beyond perfect with much wildlife and birds in the area. We kept the windows and doors opened during the “awake” hours and never were bitten by a bug once. The sounds surrounding the Lattice House still echo in my mind as I desire to still hear the crashing of the waves, sounds of the toucans, parrots and howler monkeys are etched beautifully in my mind. You can’t go wrong with the Lattice House. All the reviews are spot on. Our two teenaged kids loved the house and especially the pool. The pool is awesome.

The area is so beautiful and the people are so laid back there with an easy going atmosphere. We never felt nervous at all. The people and lifestyle around the Dominical area are great! Loved, loved, loved this trip and this part of Costa Rica! I’m still in aw!

Thank you Pat for sharing your blessing of a house!!! We hope we can return to this beautiful home and make more everlasting memories!!!

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

When I decided our next family vacation would be to Costa Rica, I was torn between choosing Lattice House and one other property. I certainly made the right decision choosing Lattice House. From the beginning, Pat, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with. She was kind and answered all of my questions. She went above and beyond and I truly felt she wanted us to have the best Costa Rica experience we could.

When we arrived, we were awed by the house and property. It is so beautiful-and I have high standards. The pool, the grounds, the deck, the bedrooms, the kitchen--it is all great. The outdoor shower and bathtub off the master were perfect! You can look out into the jungle and watch the sunset in the evening and listen to the jungle noises. What an awesome way to get clean.

We used Alexandra twice. You won't get a better view in any restaurant, so it was nice to have her cook for us at the house.

It was also very helpful to have Ana, the property manager, available. She booked us a car rental in San Jose and had it delivered to the hotel where we had to stay before we drove to Lattice House. She also booked our zip lining (Hacienda Baru-great!) and our horse-back riding tour. She was very responsive and attentive, but also would leave you alone if you wanted.

Being on a 75 acre nature preserve is also a unique experience. We hiked to the waterfall and were totally alone, swimming in the cool water. This isn't an easy hike, but it is worth it.

I was also worried that we would be too far from the beach. Not the case. In 3 minutes you can be at Hermosa beach. We felt that our stuff was safe there too.

One thing I didn't realize about Costa Rica, is that it is HOT-and I live in Arizona. It was kind of a shock. Thus, it was really nice to have A/C in the bedrooms.

As for the Zika virus scare--I saw a total of about 3 mosquitos our whole time there. We didn't even need bug spray in the jungle. I don't think Zika is really in Costa Rica. Don't let this affect your decision to go to Lattice House and have one of the best vacations ever!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write such a great review. I am so glad you were so pleased with Lattice House and Costa Rica. I agree with your assessment of the heat in March. It is the most popular month, but for those of us who live in the South, May-September is the time to go to Costa Rica--to escape the heat and, for me, the Texas mosquitos! The afternoon rains (if you are lucky to get them) cool everything off, and the Pacific Ocean breezes and the cool air sliding down the mountain can make the evenings deliciously chilly. The Off Season is a big misnomer--beautiful sunny mornings, gentle afternoon rains or occasionally exciting tropical thunderstorms, cool nights sleeping with the windows open--I think it is the best season.
