HACIENDA DELICIAS is set on a 6+ acre property in the hills above Montezuma. We are located 700 feet above sea level but a mere 3-5 min from the waters edge and Village of Montezuma. The Hacienda, which faces east, offers spectacular sunrises overlooking the Gulf of Nicoya and the far distant mountains of Manuel Antonio and Jaco Beach Coastline. Beside offering a unique scenery from the upstairs and downstairs teak verandas, the main focus tends to be the 2 ancient 120 year old mango trees and the surrounding tropical gardens, the mature palms and fruit trees. The tranquility of the property, with horses roaming freely, monkeys howling in the jungle, and enchanted birds, will give you an unique experience of Costa Rican living.
The property is filled with mango, carambola (starfruit), maranjon(cashewfruit), orange, limon, guanabana, banana, and plantains to list a few. (Peak Fruit Season March-June)

How nice it was, to be close enough to town and the beaches, but to have our own little sanctuary in the jungle. It was wonderful. The friendly locals and fresh fruit on the property made it hard to leave!
Really gorgeous and quiet place. Far enought to enjoy the nature that surounds it and close enought from de beautiful village and beach of Montezuma. You can also get easily to Mal Pais. t's a really nice place to relax and have some fun.
The owner is also really kind and gave us some tips, do's and don'ts, to make sure we have a great time
We just felt in love with this place and we will come back for sure.

Just returned from a wonderful vacation at Hacienda Delicias. The house was more than we could have asked for. Beautiful property, great location, and a very comfortable and spacious house. The kitchen was well-equipped to be able to make meals at home, and as much as we enjoyed exploring the country, we also loved the time spent at the Hacienda. Laundry was a great bonus, as we found ourselves and our clothes very dusty from all of the ATVing we did. Miguel was super friendly and helpful. We stayed for ten days and didn't want to leave! Definitely recommend renting an ATV for transportation, which can be easily arranged in Montezuma. Will definitely come back!
Let's start with the host. Miguel was absolutely gracious and hospitable. He lives in Montezuma, so helped us plan our trip in advance, and his advice was spot-on:
- He told us to book our ATV's in advance (highly recommend doing this) and then helped us negotiate the rates.
- He recommended that we use our ATV's to go beach hoping along the coast, and then recommended restaurants and beaches along the way (probably the highlight of the trip).
- He set us up on a Montezuma Falls/ziplining tour (a must for the area).
- He helped us book the Tortuga island/snorkeling daytime adventure (definitely recommend doing this), Be sure to book your tour through Zuma Tours.
The house is actually on a farm, nestled in the hills/jungle of Montezuma. The property is huge, and it's fun to explore at night when you're tipsy and full of wonder. There are no neighbors within earshot of the house, so you're nice and secluded and free to blast music and start bonfires (he has a fire pit and a lot of wood) and look up at the crystal clear sky.
The beach and the waterfalls are both within walking distance of the house (downhill/approximately a 20 minute walk). However, I recommend cabbing it from the beach to the house (there are cabs in town). This might sound like an ordeal but it's not. Plenty of people take cabs from town to their home, and the cabs are dirt cheap (like $2 a person).
Now some people prefer to rent a place on the beach. My thought? Don't. Why? Because Montezuma is equal parts jungle and beach, and this house offers you the best of both. The town of Montezuma is incredibly small and generic. It's built for tourists and is good for groceries and cheap restaurants. The beach in town is more crowded and less beautiful than the beaches you'll find along the coast. So you can stay in town, but...
I'd rather stay in the jungle. The house itself is huge. 4 bedrooms: 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs. 3 of the bedrooms have one queen or full size bed (perfect for couples) and 1 of the rooms had 3 beds (perfect for single dudes). The house has two bathrooms: 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs. All four rooms open to the outside, kind of like a hotel. Upstairs also has a nice patio area with a hammock and lounge chairs (perfect for an afternoon siesta). Downstairs there's a kitchen and a stereo that is iPod compatible.
Miguel will stop by from time-to-time to make weird and delicious tropical smoothies (rum optional). Pura vida.
We recently vacationed at Hacienda Delicias and I would not have had it any other way! The house was amazing and more than accomodating for our party of 7 including our 3 year old daughter. Miguel and his wife gave fantastic recommendations for food, excursions and local places to check out. The house itself was very well maintained with beautiful gardens and delicious fruits. The town of Montezuma was charming and everyone we met was friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone and everyone. If you do go, check out Puggo's downtown for some delicious fish. If you make the trip to Santa Theresa, Chicken Joe's has the best fish tacos!! Pura Vida
A very comfortable place to stay with the most interesting hosts. No wifi.
The center is not within walking distance and car\4x4 is necessary to come home from bar at night. Watch For snakes, scorpions, frogs, rats and the occasional Ginger.
Good place to chill. If you dont have a car .. You better have a good book!
We had the pleasure of spending four wonderful weeks here. The owners were so helpful making sure that we were happy. And we were by god. A 4x4 is required for transport, like all of Costa. A little slice of heavan in the costa rican jungle!! The town of Montezuma is as special a place you'll ever find. We still can't get over how friendly everbody was.

Hacienda Delicias is located at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, about 10 min from the first national park of the country, The Cabo Blanco Absolute Reserve, and just 5 min from the Village of Montezuma, offering all the activities of a beach town, but it's size and laid back attitude really give you the true sense of being away from it all. From sport fishing & snorkeling, day trips to Tortuga Island, horseback riding along the Playa Grande to experience a waterfall that drops right into the ocean - just explore the miles and miles of untouched pristine coastline, pull over anywhere you like and take a break, a swim, or a picnic beneath the palms and beach almond trees.
If what you're looking for is the feel of authentic Costa Rican life, the natural untouched landscapes, and the beauty and simplicity of life in its most natural state, then Hacienda Delicias and the Southern Nicoya Peninsula is for you.
