This house was built by a French architect and decorated by his house and we were lucky enough to purchase the house just shortly after it was built. The house is well built with spacious rooms, nice-sized bathrooms, and lots of private outdoor space.
The house is located within walking distance to Chedraui - the huge full size grocery store that opened in late 2011. Being able to walk over and stock up on supplies and fresh bread and produce daily is a real treat! And if you don't feel like cooking, you can reach several of the island's best places to eat on foot within minutes. Taxi's are plentiful on the island and you can grab one outside of our front gate within minutes. The home is very private yet close to fabulous restaurants, beaches and downtown.
This house totally exceeded our expectations! The home is lovely, with spacious bedrooms and bathrooms and a well-equiped kitchen. The private pool with a waterfall made it feel like a tropical paradise. Everything was very clean, the property manager made us feel like we were close friends and he made sure that we had everything we needed to make our visit perfect. I was a little worried prior to going there because the house was not in the heart of the activity at Playa Norte. After our first day, I was so happy to get back to the privacy and relaxation of the house after a day at the beach or in town shopping. The cab ride was only $2 for the entire car and we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for a cab. We rented golf carts and mopeds for the first day and toured the entire island. What a great experience! After that, we did not need transportation. Isla Mujeres is like taking a step back in time. In our opinion, Isla gives you the opportunity to get a glimpse of the simple life and culture of the people, without all of the hoopla. The restaurants were excellent and extremely inexpensive. We had planned to cook a few nights, but ended up eating out every night. We couldn't wait to try all of the places. We ate at Medina Tacos, Bamboo, Angelos, a great Cuban place, and a Bistro on a corner of Hidalgo that cooked steaks and fish right outside on a grill. The drinks are two for one almost everywhere and are excellent. We especially enjoyed the Pina Coladas at the tiki bar behind Posada Del Mar. We went diving twice and went snorkeling at Garrafon Castillo,North Beach was not crowded and the water was beautiful. We rented chairs from Sunset Grill and stayed to watch the sunset. Best of all, the cost of our umbrellas and chairs ($30 for 2 umbrellas and 4 chairs) went toward the cost of our food and drinks. We ate lunch, had snacks, and 2 members of our group drank Sol beer all day. It only costs us about $40 - so our umbrellas and chairs were free!
One recommendation is to bring lots of $1 bills. We brought 100 ones and went through them pretty quickly. Cash is best. The beauty of not having a commercialized vacation spot made it worth having to pay cash often.
I would strongly recommend La Casa Luna Y Sol to anyone who is looking for a peaceful vacation in a tropical paradise. We cannot wait until we can go again! Make your reservations now!
Casa Luna Y Sol was a great place to stay. It had a very nice pool to relax in. The house was clean and comfortable. Each room had a fan and air conditioning which was needed and it had it's own bathroom. There were several patio's to relax at. They provided bottled drinking water for your stay. Jugna, the owner was very efficient and very kind. She let us come in early since we had an overnight flight and came in early that morning. The grocery store was a 5 minute walk and had everything you needed. To get around, we would just go out our gate and there were always taxi's within a few minutes. You are about 40 minute walk into town or a 10 minute taxi ride. I would recommend this property if you would like a nice, quiet home away from the downtown area.
Great place to stay! House was clean and ready for our arrival with more than enough room for 5 adults. The location was great and with the use of a golf cart could get to any location on the island within minutes. We epecially enjoyed the pool and outdoor seating area. I would recommend this property to a friend.
My boyfriend and I rented this picturesque house for just the 2 of us. We wanted a quiet, private retreat where we could recharge and enjoy each others' company. This house was just perfect. We spent a lot of time in the gorgeous private pool and lounging on the patio. The kitchen had everything we needed and we cooked at home several times, and kept ourselves stocked in daiquiris with the blender. Chedraui is like a Wal-Mart store and has everything you need in a 5 minute walk from the house. It was also easy to catch a taxi outside of the gate and zip into downtown for dinner or the beach, and the restaurant recommendations given by Jugna were spot-on. We had breakfast 3 times at Mango Cafe - the best Eggs Benedict I've ever had anywhere, and my boyfriend loved their fish tacos, which were huge. We also had a wonderful lobster and filet mignon dinner at Ballyhoo on the ocean, which was more food than we could eat, and very inexpensive. We also rented a golf cart one day and had fun driving all around the island. I'd recommend doing this one day early to get a feel for where everything is on the island. Otherwise, taxis are cheap and easy. We spent a couple days on North Beach in rented chairs or beds. They're about 200-300 pesos per person for the day, and that amount comes off the food and drinks you purchase. We also went to the turtle farm and to the south tip for the mayan temple. Both Jugna and Drew, the property manager, were very helpful, answering all of our questions. I would love to go back to Isla again, and would rent this house again for sure. It was just perfect.
After travelling from Hamilton, Canada to Isla Mujeres by plane, ferry and taxi, my girlfriends and I were so very happy to enter the welcoming, clean, cool and calm Casa del Luna y Sol. Entering in the late evening we were able to access the gate and house easily, per directions from the owner. The house was bright, organized and air conditioned. The next morning, not too early, we met the property manager, Drew, who gave us helpful tips about the house, the flora and fauna, the water refills in the garage and advising us the schedule of the house and pool maintenance. Since it was very hot, for us "Northerners" when we were there in late April, the pool and air conditioned rooms were so very much appreciated. It was such a calm, easy and fun vacation celebrating our 60th birthdays. Communicating with the owner, Jugna Shah was pleasant and efficient. We very much enjoyed the island restaurants, snorkeling, beaches and people but couldn't wait to get back to our little Oasis to have a beer and watch the sunset from the roof.
We chose to spend spring break with our family of 8 (ranging from ages 7-73!) on Isla Mujeres and were very happy with this vacation rental. It slept all of us fairly comfortably, although it would have been nice to have a pull-out sofa for flexible sleeping arrangements. Overall, we loved the central location (super close to Chedruai, which we visited at least once a day!) and we enjoyed exploring the surrounding local Colonia neighborhoods and discovered the walking path around the salina for daily walks. A few of our party walked into town (it took about 30-45 minutes), although most of us relied on a rented golf cart for transportation around the island due to the intense sun and warm temps during the day. The house has a unique layout where the bedrooms are spread out throughout 3 stories, which allows for plenty of privacy and separate sleeping spaces; we mostly convened as a group in the outdoor living space and had plenty of meals on the patio. The kitchen was pretty well-stocked for moderately complicated cooking experiences and we had many meals at the house; we also found some great restaurants, including Oscar's for delicious pizza (within easy walking distance) and Menino's (tasty seafood in the sand near North Beach). The main issue was learning to sleep with loud A/C units (but we were very grateful for A/C!). The owner (Jugna) and the property manager (Drew) were both very helpful and responsive and we felt very well taken care of. All in all, we would highly recommend a vacation on Isla Mujeres - there is so much to do, from relaxing on the beach and swimming in the clear, perfect waters of Playa Norte, swimming at the protected Playa Secreto (great for kids), taking a snorkeling excursion (we had a good experience with one of the local cooperative companies), walking along the malecon (path) with expansive views of the Caribbean, reading in the hammock at the house, watching the sunset from the top balcony, cooling off in the pool, and exploring sights on the island. For a group that has traveled quite a bit in Central and South America, we found Isla Mujeres to be a friendly and safe vacation spot with many offerings for all ages (esp. if you want to just relax!) and still a good dose of local culture. La Casa Luna y Sol served our group very well and we would recommend it to families or larger groups looking for a nice, centralized spot, where you can get away from the bustle of town in this great retreat!
Isla Mujeres is a small island, but there’s a lot to do here. The gorgeous white sand beaches on the island’s north and western sides are ideal for an afternoon of sun and relaxation. Rent a golf cart to take a tour of the island, and stop for snorkeling and lunch at Garrafon, the island’s southern tip. You can also take a boat trip with Isla’s fishermen and snorkel, fish, or visit the nearby bird sanctuary.
Playa Norte is Isla’s largest, longest and most popular beach. You can rent water toys, kayaks, snorkeling gear, chairs and umbrellas. There’s no better place to while away the afternoon at an open-air restaurant or in a shaded lounge chair. A variety of restaurants line the beach where you can enjoy fish caught moments ago, elegant Mayan-inspired cuisine, or a simple dish of beans and rice. Sunsets are particularly stunning from this point. You can even find wireless internet access at the Sunset Grill on Playa Norte.
Come and explore this gracious warm vacation home.
