About The Owner

Mark and Ashley are a husband and wife team that have one foot planted firmly in Chicago. As a former Chicago resident for 10 years, Ashley has both friends and family in Chicago. We have twins who love to visit Chicago! They both know that Dad's favorite building is the Hancock.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2008

Why The Owner chose Chicago

There is only one Gold Coast in Chicago and this historical building is in the heart of it. Our endeavor started out with simply wanting a place to stay when we would visit and eventually use in retirement. We love Chicago and all the City has to offer...from great food, to world class shopping, to museums, architecture, sports, name it and Chicago has it all.

What makes this apartment unique

The location cannot be beat. Chicago's epicenter for nightlife is at the end of the block with fabulous restaurants like Gibson's, Tavern On Rush, Morton's, etc. coming together in a perfect triangular parklike setting. If you want to feel like a true Chicago resident in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Chicago, this is the place. The tree-lined street is a perfect prelude to your arrival at this historical building. Shopping on Michigan Avenue is just a block away as well. It's an AMAZING location!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time in Chicago. The location of the brownstone was perfect- we walked everywhere and were able to jump on the L close by. I don't have any criticism- thanks for making it such an easy process.

Great Location!

  • 3 of 5

Property was clean and well appointed. Loved the location - easy walking to all the great restaurants, etc. The property was very clean inside - the outside needs some TLC. Was disappointed the A/C was ion in the bedroom and the small unit in the front barely covered the job when it got hot. Extra sleeping situation is a mess. the pull out couch is not an option and the blow up mattress has a leak. The owners were non responsive to several e-mails once the property was booked and paid.

Great location

This is one of the best locations. We had a fabulous time. The apartment is close to everything yet very quiet at the same time. If we visit Chicago again we would love to stay there once more

Good neighborhood experience

  • 4 of 5

We were back on a familiar street where we once owned an apartment. The location is perfect for transportation, Chicago downtown and beach activities. Only problem was a mishap with owner's cleaning company when the cleaner did not show up. Substitute cleaner was very efficient and conscientious and we only asked that the essentials be taken care of. We couldn't get into apartment until 18:30. Ashley told us our cleaning fee would be returned. Towels were limited and would suggest beach towels on hand in summer and perhaps a parasol. Air conditioners too loud to sleep with. Comfortable apartment and felt quite at home in the apartment. We had a lovely stay despite initial problem. Would recommend Apartment 2. Neighborhood changing. We had one last chance to enjoy Big Bowl, Corner Bakery, DaLobster (formerly Ashkenaz Deli). They all closed the week we were there -- buildings being converted to shopping.

Perfect location and charming street

  • 5 of 5

This location can't be beat! We were on a sister's trip celebrating an upcoming wedding. We were able to do everything we wanted mostly by walking. Beach and shopping if you walk out of the charming brownstone to the right. Rush Street to the left with amazing restaurants and bars. The owners were very accessible and prompt with the two inquiries during our stay. We will be using this VRBO again, hopefully very soon!

I recently spent 5 days in Chicago and this brownstone was the perfect thing. Great location in terms of restaurants and shopping. The neighborhood is very safe and the accommodations were VERY nice. The mattress was exceptional, bathroom is great, kitchen is perfectly adequate. I would stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this apartment to anyone!

The only thing I'd watch out for is the front steps. They are slippery and dangerous when wet!

great location!

  • 4 of 5

Loved being so close to the beach and Lakeshore Drive. Rented the Divvy bikes just down the street to get all was great. (FYI - Divvy are self-serve rental bikes that only cost $7/day as long as you redock every 30min). Had an issue with a blind breaking in the living room, but owners responded quickly and assured me it was no big deal and they would take care of it. (so glad they include renters insurance with their bookings!) Only suggestion would be to install blinds on other 2 living room windows vs shutters because one side can't be closed with the airconditioner box in the way and then it gets too bright in the am if someone is sleeping in the living room. Speaking of sleeping in the living room....don't bother with pull-out couch, use the blow up mattress instead. Couch mattress, not so good!

Only thing missing in kitchen was a saucepan, unless i missed it. Had nowhere to boil my pasta except in saute pan...

Overall, cute condo in a great location. Best for 2 people, unless others don't mind the blow up mattress. TV in bedroom a little tricky to figure out, but eventually did and same goes for the shower knob.

This was the 2nd floor unit, and like all old buildings, we could hear every foot step above us, especially the small child - who I presume was doing laps in the mornings chasing a ball or something! :) Besides the footsteps though, the walls provided good sound barriers.

Will hold onto this address for another visit!
