Having lived in North Carolina, Colorado and Montana, I highly recommend the peace and tranquility that the Montana mountains offer. I enjoy vacations where there are fewer people, I can breath easier, and let my hair down, so to speak. At Cedar Grove, you will feel this way and more. It's a relaxing mountain home with all the modern amenities. Get outside and take a walk to Elmer's Pond, sit down on a bench and allow the water to mesmerize your thoughts. After your trip is over, please let me know what you thought. Thank You Very Much for Your Reservation! :)

CEDAR GROVE MGMT TEAM purchased this house in 1998

Why CEDAR GROVE MGMT TEAM chose Whitefish

Of all the vacation rental options in the Whitefish area, Ptarmigan Village offers the most amenities in the Flathead Valley: large indoor pool and sauna with outdoor hot sectional pool that can fit up to 25! (See photos) Plus, Outdoor pool, private beach on Whitefish Lake. Walking/hiking paths, stocked children's fishing pond, tennis, basketball...

What makes this house unique

Have you ever seen a "Ski Garden" before? You will at Cedar Grove, along with an outdoor swing with one of the original ski chairs from Big Mountain Ski Resort in Whitefish, now called Whitefish Mountain Resort on Big Mountain.

Consumed in a mountain cedar grove, Cedar Grove Vacation Rental promotes a feeling of seclusion while being hidden from the few surrounding neighbors. You'll find lots of privacy, peace and quiet while enjoying your stay at Cedar Grove.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our last two February reservations have exemplified the perfect guests! We couldn't be more pleased with the care and kindness given to Cedar Grove, and for that we're all very thankful. They are the reasons we keep our cleaning costs lower than the area rates.

Safe Travels, Everyone! And give Cedar Grove a try.

Best wishes from CEDAR GROVE MGMT TEAM

Great home base for our Glacier vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This house was very cozy, comfortable and restful after a day of exploring Glacier National Park (took 40 min. to get to the west entrance of the park). We enjoyed having a home to come back to and not a motel room. We had three adults and three kids in the house and it was sufficient space for us. In one place it says that it's not suitable for children, though my boys--ages 2, 4 and 6--had their own toys and left all the "stuff" in the house alone so I think it's a fine place for kids. We took advantage of the pool in Ptarmigan Village and went to Whitefish Mountain, but most of our time was spent in Glacier.

We cooked a number of meals in the house and it was adequately stocked with the necessary cooking and storage items. We also made use of the washer and dryer. The town of Whitefish is charming and we would have loved to explore more.

There was a list of instructions, including check-out instructions, but that didn't bother us. It really didn't take that long to put towels/linens in the laundry room and take out the trash. It's not any different than what I would do when staying at someone's house anyway. The caretaker checked in with us periodically and took care of a slight mishap; she was great to work with! We would definitely consider staying here again if we ever have the opportunity to return!

Owner's Response: Hi Melanie and Family, Thank you for being such wonderful guests at Cedar Grove. We really appreciate you treating this home as your own. Your comments are extremely helpful, as we don't want any surprises when you arrive. We're especially pleased to hear that this rental was suitable for children. That is awesome. We hope you can bring your family back this winter and try Whitefish Mountain Resort on Big Mountain - Lori can even give you all a family ski lesson! :) Best wishes and continued happy travels, CEDAR GROVE VACATION RENTAL Luke and Lori

OK - Not an inviting home

  • 3 of 5

The house is OK. Location is OK for a Glacier NP focused vacation. Everything seems to be a long drive in Montana.

The owners (or caretaker?) live on the main level and you get the second and third story. The house is overloaded with stuff, not leaving much room for your stuff. Look closely at the pictures as they do accurately represent some of this. The house is mostly carpeted which is old, worn, and stained. The house has a unpleasant odor you notice when you walk in. The house does not feel clean. No pets allowed but there were a couple of baskets of dog toys in the living room - odd.

They have built barriers out of stuff - like blocking the stairway with random suff like a kitchen stool and ribbons between the main and second level - the separation between us and them. They have ribbons holding cabinet doors shut and tape on many different drawers to prevent guests from messing with their stuff. If you want to rent your property, please declutter and move your personal valuables out of the house instead of all these odd tactics used. A rental should feel like a hotel - this does not.

Like another reviewer stated, you are greeted with a huge list of things you have to do or cannot do during your stay an upon checkout. You get an extremely detailed double sided sheet stating all the rules upon arrival - kinda crazy. I have never been required to take out trash, strip linens, close doors, not touch this or that, etc. I have not had owners food in the freezer in past rentals with notes to leave it alone.

The house does not have AC as stated in the overview. It does have minimal windows you can open (many don't have screens or have lights taped to them or knickknacks in the way. There is a box fan you can put in the window at night and it cooled off nicely.

Nice neighborhood. The pool areas are nice. There is an outdoor pool you can walk to. There is an indoor pool and outdoor hottub you drive too.

The management was fine and helpful. They do want you to enjoy your stay. We had a fine time at the cabin - but it could be a lot better.

Great rental experience!

  • 5 of 5

The Cedar Grove property was a great place to stay! It was very clean and was very comfortable for our family of four. The location was very quiet and the caretaker, Lori was awesome - she was quick to respond to any questions we had. We also enjoyed the amenities that the property offered. We had a great experience and would stay here again if in the area!

Wow! What a FABULOUS time we had!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 10 adults (plus one baby) visiting Montana for the first time. The property managers for Alpine Chalet in Whitefish were absolutely wonderful to work with. They helped us not only with securing a place to stay, but they also helped us with so many other things we needed to know to make our stay more enjoyable.

Alpine Chalet was incredibly clean and well equipped. We enjoyed the secluded location, yet it was only a six minute drive to downtown Whitefish! It felt like escaping the real world and entering a fantasy in the mountains.

We all arrived with excited anticipation and departed with total satisfaction. Skiing was incredible, as was the outdoor hot tub. All ten of us soaked in it and didn't even touch. Some in our group also really liked that the indoor pool was salt water (I was told to mention this because apparently it was a lot nicer than chlorinated water).

All of us would recommend this comfortable home. Even though there were ten of us in this home, the separation of levels helped us feel privacy in our own space. AND... at a GREAT RATE!

We hope to return some summer to witness Glacier National Park, and we hope this home will be available. THANK YOU ALPINE CHALET!

Wrong execution of the right idea...

  • 3 of 5

I truly enjoy giving glowing reviews of properties we have stayed in thru VRBO. However, this time I cannot give a terrific ''thumbs up". The house is nice but there are lots of 'gotchas' along the way... some things could be fixed easily if the owner (or management company) would re-think their approach to dealing with renters.

For starters, we booked four nights and paid in full in advance. While making the two-day drive to the property, first we were emailed apologizing that the TV was broken (I ended up fixing the remote!) Then we received a call from the property manager contritely informing us that they double-booked our last night and that we'd have to vacate the property a day earlier than planned. Since this was just one piece of a longer vacation, we had to waste much of a day finding another place for one night.

When we arrived we were greeted with a punitive departure checklist showing fees if not completed before leaving. Keep in mind we were charged a cleaning fee as part of our package. Nonetheless, we were instructed to strip linens from beds ($25 ea.), run dishwasher ($20, btw dishwasher drawer was broken!), close all interior doors ($5, ea.), empty all trash into dumpster across the street ($15, ea.) There were several more cleaning-chores thrust on us, but you get the idea!

Ironically, upon arrival we found soiled bedding on one of the beds and the dishwasher was full of dirty dishes - sheesh! Another annoyance is that the master bedroom has no blinds or shades so if you DON'T want to wake up at daybreak while on vacation (or if you are concerned with privacy) don't sleep in the MBR.

Those things aside, The house is nice and in a quiet neighborhood. The master bathroom is wonderful. Perhaps they've had some bad experiences in the past with renters which could explain the onerous threats of financial penalties. However, we've stayed in MANY rental properties and have never encountered such a heavy handed approach like this. Getting booted from a rental a day early was not the way we wanted to start a two week holiday!
