HI, I am the owner, diane powell. I only added this site this past month...may 04. We have plenty of comments in the guest book I leave at the house. But, I'm not sure many people will use this after they have left.
Mostly, people have commented on how much fun they have had and that they want to return. I have had a few comments on how much nicer our place is in person. The pool is a big hit. I really haven't had any negative comments. diane powell
None of us knew what we were in for when we arrived to this beautiful oasis we now like to call our home away from home. The main house gives you an immediate feeling of island coziness overlooking the beautiful water, completely furnished and stocked with plenty of towels, packing light is a must. Pool is refreshing after basking in the sun from an all day fishing trip. Enjoy some surround sound music while the drinks are cold and the catch of the day is being fired up on the grill. There are two kayaks available to venture out on the water and watch the horse shoe crabs, blue crabs, star fish, hermit crabs & plenty of fish enjoying the warm water. The guest house gives you that nautical cottage type of feeling with plenty of room to sleep peacefully. Wifi access, television, washer and dryer in both homes & plenty of bedding. So pack light & enjoy a peaceful escape to a very secluded oasis.
This is the third time we've rented in the Keys and it was by far the best!! The pool was perfect. Big with a water fall and perfect temp to cool off on hot days and warm enough to go in at night!! The two houses were perfect for our group. Lots of space for everyone to have room to strech out with lots of privacy. The main house was perfect for the four of us who shared it and set up perfectly with the two bathrooms although we never showered inside once!! the outdoor shower was great. Dianne was great to work with and very responsive. Eddie, the propery manager is very responsive and soo kind. Thanks for the treat Eddie, you missed out on some great Spaghetti though!! The place is close enough
to get to Key West in a short time but far enough away to be away from all the traffic. There is a great restaurant called Kiki's within walking distance with some of the best Lobster Bisque soup!! You have everything you need once you arrive at the Powell House to have a great vacation. We fished, kayaked and swam!!! Thanks to Dianne and Smitty for sharing their Paradise with us. We are just headed home by way of alligator alley and already planning our next visit!!
Very nice property! We will be back. Everything you need is there. Dianne was very good to work with and very accommodating. The pool is very nice too. This place is a rarity property in the keys. Ed is right across the street and can take care of anything you need. If I could sum it up in one word it would be "relaxing". Thanks Dianne! Also if you are looking for a charter to go fishing look up Nick Woody. He works hard for you! Very good young man with customer satisfaction in mind.
What a great place! We have rented a lot in the keys but this is by far the best (HOME) it feels like home you can tell the owners love their piece of paradise. We have a large family (11) plenty of room for everyone. It is nicer than the description and photos. The owners are quick to answer any questions. Everything is in great order. All you need is your clothes, food and fishing gear. Plenty to do close by but you won't want to leave the property. Thanks to the owners for sharing their home with us. God Bless Gary
We had a small family reunion at the Powell houses. The property looked good, so we were thrilled when it exceeded our expectations in many ways!
The owner was easy to work with and very gracious. She provided several extra photos of the property, and always answered emails promptly. The photos were very accurate, by the way. They actually don't do the place justice, as they don't convey how private and homey this property really is.
The yard was large and nicely landscaped. Parking was roomy and easy to navigate, even with multiple cars. The pool was well situated between the two houses, and the little tiki bar and screened porch provided shade near by. There were plenty of chairs for lounging, speakers that allowed us to have music both inside and out, plus two hammocks with great views of the water. The house was extremely well stocked with beach towels, and there was a great pair of washers and dryers in each house to keep up with the demand. There were two docks: one on the bay that easily fit the 24 foot boat we rented, and a smaller dock on the canal, which was a great place for the kids to fish. The fish cleaning table was large, and the hose was handy for cleaning up the boat and fishing gear. The freezer at the back of the house was a nice touch, giving us a place to keep bait and fish fillets from our catches.
The guest house was every bit as nice as the main house. It had a full kitchen, which was nice as we didn't have to walk over to the other house to get things. We really enjoyed the porches on the front (one open and one screened). They were a great place to sit and watch the water while having our morning coffee, or having a drink in the evening.
The manager was very quick to respond when we contacted him. He was also very knowledgeable about fishing in the area, and gave us good advice on how to rig up our gear for the area.
We really enjoyed that the area around the house was quiet, but we could easily drive down to Key West within a half hour. We also enjoyed snorkeling at nearby Looe Key, and taking drives on Big Pine and No Name Keys in the evening to see the key deer.
We would gladly rent the Powell houses again!
What an amazing week!!!! Thank you so much Diane and Smitty for blessing our family with such a grand property. The house, guest house, and grounds are immaculate and absolutely beautiful. We spent one day in Key West, the rest of the vacation we spent on the property because you don't want to leave. Also, thanks to Eddie (manager), he is so kind and saw to any needs you may have. We will definitely return to this true piece of paradise!!! Thanks again Diane for an awesome week and for your hospitality.
