Fishing : If you like the convenience of a fully stocked kitchen, groceries can be delivered to villa Amapola. Your catch, if you go on one of the great fishing trips, can be prepared for your dining pleasure, in a gourmet variety of ways. Two boats are available to guests of Amapola for deep sea or shore/reef fishing. They are part of the fleet of the Hotel Punta Islita, and can be booked for half day or full day trips, and are billed separately from the lodging. The fishing is outstanding-catching 3 marlins,(blue, stripped and white -a hat trick)plus 2 sailfish is not uncommon in these waters, in a half day trip. There are also 2 tennis courts are surrounded by tropical birds and lime, lemon, orange, and grapefruit trees-it is gorgeous setting-1 court has lights for an after sunset rally.
Transportation: The hotel provides ground transportation within the village. A golf cart can to rented right at the main desk for simple quick rides to town, local resturants or the beach, from the villa. The front desk can also arrange for a rental car to be delivered to you for your personal trips and excursions to the many beautiful local beaches and pristine dry rain forest areas in the surrounding towns.
Amapola is well situated near an unpaved and windy dirt road which leads up to the hotel. (A brick-paved path for walking or for a golf cart is much quicker and easier!) It makes for a most invigorating morning walk and was a great way to start the day. It passes right by the Ara Project grounds which is now re-introducing beautiful young scarlet macaws back into the area. These majestic birds are a beautiful ( and noisy)sight overhead when we are lucky enough to sight them.
The villa is nicely laid out with a great room that opens right on to the pool. The kitchen area is complete with every modern convenience. The ocean is within easy walking distance where there is a second hotel pool and a lovely restaurant that serves lunch and breakfast. For those who prefer not eating every meal at the hotel a villa is the only way to go. A rental 4 wheel drive vehicle is essential and readily available via the Internet. The owner has done a beautiful job in ensuring total privacy -with dense lush tropical plantings- in the enclosed area in the rear of the property where the pool is located.
Although we booked the Amapola sight unseen, we could not have been more pleased with the choice.
As the previous reviewers noted, this is a fantastic villa. The descriptions and photos are entirely accurate. The layout suited our family (2 children) very well for the 5 days/4 nights that we stayed there. The villa has more privacy than those that are more closely situated to the restaurant/reception area but is only ~3-5 minute golf cart ride away....and it is one of the closest villas to the beach. The condition of the villa was virtually perfect with brand new appliances, fixtures, furniture, Wi-Fi, and satellite TV. The daily housekeeping was regular, well done and virtually invisible to us. We are definitely coming back to Punta Islita and this will be the villa we hope for again.
We spent a week here and it was awesome! The photos are accurate, it really is that beautiful!! The house is VERY private, nice private pool, hammocks, A/C if you want to use it. The beach is a short walk away and a great place for surfing or just hanging out. There is a hotel nearby so we had dinners there or at a small local restaurant, There are activities available through the hotel -- zip line rides, kayak trips -- lots of fun and it is right there, very convenient! The hotel spa is fabulous, very tropical and relaxing. This spot is "off the beaten track" so it has a real jungle feeling but with plenty of comfort features. In the evening we sat on the roof deck and listened to the monkeys while we enjoyed the sunset ocean view. We would definitely recommend Amopola !! The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful and had lots of additional information for us. We plan to go back!!
We just returned from spending a week in February at Amapola. We loved it. The house is beautifully designed with light-filled rooms, views, and privacy. The natural materials used (stone, teak, stucco, palm fronds) provided a soothing and visually-pleasing atmosphere. The hammocks were welcoming and frequently used. The bathrooms with their courtyards and tropical plantings added a touch of the exotic. We enjoyed using the private pool everyday: in the early morning as we listened to the howler monkeys and in the late afternoons when the swallows would join us for a dip. The robes and bath supplies provided daily added a real touch of luxury.
The amenities that come with the house are fantastic. Eating at the 1492 Restaurant at Hotel Punta Islita was romantic; torches, candles, open air, white linens and the sound of crashing waves. The beach with the mountains coming down to the sea and views of the rugged coastline is stupendous. There is also a pool, a restaurant and wonderful palm trees that make spending a day at the beach very pleasant. The spa is world class and should not be missed. The infinity pool by the hotel provides one of the most beautiful views ever. My husband enjoyed a daily round of golf. Top all of this beauty and nature (we spotted over 60 types of birds, monkeys and iguanas) off with a wonderful staff who take care of your every whim. It does not come any closer to heaven and appeals to all ages (my husband, 82 year old mother and 11 year old daughter).
