we had a nice time,....But there are several shortcomings w/this rental....There are stairs everywhere.... to get in the get to the lake. The firepit is uncomfortable...benches... and too close to the fire. The bbq grill is a joke..a small weber...try cooking hot dogs and hamburgers on it for 10--12 people. The boat is O.k. but needs repair and it came w/virtually no operating instructions.. The swim dock you see in the pictures is in 10 to 15 feet deep water.

Not real friendly for kids. There is no AC. Other than that...there was good space & relatively clean.

Owner's Response: So glad you have a nice time and there was space for your whole family. Yes the house sits up on a hill, and that means stairs - there is a picture of the house taken from the lake which shows stairs going from the lake up to the house. This listing does not show that this house has A/C, but does have many fans, ceiling and portable. A/C is just not a normal amenity up north and on the lake. All Swim Rafts should be placed in deep enough water so that if someone jumps or dives off they do not hit bottom, they are not intended to be places in shallow water. We understand that this place may not be for everyone, but for the lucky ones, this is an Awesome Property !

Very Comfortable Home / Nice Pontoon Boat

  • 4 of 5

We had a family of 10 rent Bass Cove Cottage for a week in July. The home was very comfortable, spacious, and clean. Beds & linens were nice. Hangers were even in the closet for us.! Each room had a ceiling fan and that was perfect for the 85 degree days. No need for AC. Bathrooms were very nice. We had good water pressure and always plenty of hot water. The kitchens were well stocked with pots/pans, bowls, utensils. Having 2 full sized refrigerators was a plus.

The upper outside deck always had a breeze and comfortable furniture. We enjoyed the picnic table, the fire pit and especially the dock area & swim raft. Fish were caught just off the dock. The pontoon boat was a pleasure for fishing and evening cruises. Plenty of room for all of us.

An especial thanks to Kathy, the property manager. She communicated by text. She was always prompt to respond. Renting kayaks and paddle boards was easy and a lot of fun. When the boat needed more gas, she responded promptly. Written information about the boat, the house, the procedure for trash and recycling was spelled out and helpful.

The only drawback to this rental for us was the charcoal grill. We would have preferred a gas grill and the hard water turned some of our whites orange due to the sunscreen we wore. Colored clothes were fine.

Spider lake was lovely. This home was very comfortable and clean. I would highly recommend this rental.

Cute Cozy Cabin - 25 minutes to TC

  • 3 of 5

I recently rented the Bass Cove Cottage along with 4 other couples for a birthday weekend. The cottage was cute and cozy. The hot tub got plenty of use and the pool table. There were plenty of instructions and well detailed at that; "do not put dirty dishes in cupboard", "put utensils back where you got them", every light switch was labeled for each and every lamp and light fixture - which was helpful. Garbage cans were labeled and marked for recycle and garbage items. All in all, the cabin was perfect for 2 nights.

We went into Traverse City 2 nights in a row, I was told the trip was only 10 minutes and a $20 cab ride, however it was more like 25 minutes and a $50 cab ride.

There was no store around, without driving to Traverse City (that we found or were aware of), so make sure to stop or bring what you need. There was a paper towel roll for us and toilet paper in each bathroom. Towels were also supplied, and plenty of them in each bedroom.

Cute, cozy cabin :)

Late Spring weekend on Spider Lake

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a long weekend at Bass Cove-the perfect setting for rest and renewal. So many blessings- morning coffee on the deck overlooking peaceful Spider Lake, enjoying the private hot tub on a cool evening, watching movies by a crackling fire and preparing leisurely meals in the well-stocked kitchen! Then, you add the quaint shops, interesting restaurants and scenic walking trails in Traverse City, and we had it all! The cleanliness, beauty and quiet of this home are amazing. Now we need to return with more family and friends!

Terrific Summer rental for families

  • 5 of 5

Bass Cove House was just perfect for our family vacation.

The lay-out was great for our multi-generation group (Grandma, Mom & Dad and Adult children). It provided the perfect blend of privacy and comraderie. The pool table and fire pit provided lots of fun. Although we didn't use them much, the Wi-fi and tv provided good entertainment. The lake and house amenities were the stars of the show. One consideration is that there are quite a few stairs in the house and down to the lake.

We spent many hours on the pontoon exploring the various coves and islands on beautiful Spider Lake.

I would highly recommend this property. We had a really fun stay.

Exceeding expectations & new family favorite!

  • 5 of 5

We actually stayed here in July 8-15, 2012! I have been meaning to write this review for quite some time. This was our second stay on Spider Lake, but our first stay at Bass Cove! We had the same Hosts at both locations and needless to say they were phenomenal!!! We have traveled to Canada many times and once we stayed on Spider Lake and received the hospitality of these host, we have found our new vacation tradition! These hosts take care of all of the details and make you feel at home. The house was very clean and well kept!!! The pontoon was an added bonus and well taken care of as well! The ages of our party ranged from 13 to 80! All had a great time...especially the teens/young adults...they want to go back. Couldn't make the trip in 2013, but looking forward to 2014! Thank you again for everything as described and the exceptional customer service!

Owner's Response: Thank You, Thank You, THANK YOU ! for loving Spider Lake and Bass Cove Cottage as much as we do ! We came to Spider Lake 24 years ago and fell in love with is so much we moved here from San Diego and haven't looked back once. Spider Lake has it all.. with that "in the middle of nowhere" Up North feeling to the Wonderful Downtown Area, to the Wineries and Breweries and now Distilleries, and all the Natural Resources and Beauty that you can only imagine. Spider Lake is an "all sports" lake - clear and clean, good for fishing, swimming, and exploring. Keep a look out for wildlife: Loons, Bald Eagles, Muscrats, Blue Herons and more. The house has some new updates and is more fabulous than ever. We have vacation rentals on Spider Lake in all sizes and shapes - so let us know your needs - most are available all year long ! Spider Lake in Traverse City, Michigan

Other Activities: Snow shoeing, X-country skiing, snowmobiling, hiking

Golf: Would you rather stay 'off the beaten path' and Golf a different place everyday, or get in a few hours of fishing after the back nine ? Why stay in a hotel room when you and 3 other couples can feel cozy and at home on the lake.. When you are here, you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, but will have easy access to 'town' and all the Golf Courses in the area - and there are lots !

Ski: Over 200 inches of snow fall in Grand Traverse County every Winter, we can't always predict when, so be ready for it almost anytime... ! Could be in November or March ( or April ) But pretty good chance for Dec, Jan, and Feb - that we will be covered in white when you get here.. even if it's green 'downstate' ... We are close to Holiday Hills for great Family Skiing, Beginner/Intermediate Skiing, Snowboarding, and Snow Tubing. Muncie Lakes Pathway is a nicely marked and groomed X-C skiing , snowshoeing and hiking trail system a few miles away. Timber Ridge nearby has x-c ski and snowshoe rentals and lighted trails that hook up with our VASA trails. The bigger hills.... Crystal Mtn and Shuss & Shanty Creek are about 45-60 minutes away .
