Franklin House Rental Photos and Description

This mountain home sits alongside a small natural spring fed stream that trickles and pools thru the wooded 2.5 acre property. So serene and relaxing. A covered deck faces the stream and features an outdoor fireplace so you can enjoy the peaceful setting and s'mores year-round.

This home can accommodate up to 8, however it is not a large home so it does work for just a couple wanting a romantic escape. King Master on Main. If you are traveling with friends or family, the house's layout allows privacy. 2 additional bedrooms upstairs and a finish lower level with 2 twins. (*see details below).

So much to do or simply get away and relax. Waterfalls Abound: You can spend weeks getting to them all. Beautiful falls within just a few miles of the house. Our activities Book will keep you busy for days, weeks or months! Paved Road to paved drive so great for motorcylists too! Come hike or take a scenic drive, fish, raft, kayak, hunt for antiques, shop, go gem mining, attend festivals. It's all here! Our location is close to all our mountain activities but away from noisy tourism. Experience all Western NC has to offer from our comfortable home.

Decor is not the usual rental type but rather features leather and upholstered furnishings, comfy mattresses & pillows, wool rugs, local artwork (owner is a decorator). We are particular and it shows. Our renters tell us we've thought of everything... from walking sticks to wood for the fireplace and blankets to snuggle on cooler evenings by the fire. The gourmet kitchen is well equipped to cook (saving money on eating out). There's even a crockpot & popcorn popper. Wireless Internet & DirecTV. Get away and pamper yourself at the same time. Nothing finer than to come back after a nice hike or day exploring our beautiful area, put on comfy clothes, build a fire, grab a beverage of choice, and relax on the incredible timber framed deck.

Layout Detail: Timber Framed Home with beautiful exposed beams. The main floor is one large room - living area, dining & open kitchen. There is a King Master Bedroom with en suite bath off the kitchen area. a powder room is off the entry/foyer. The ceiling in the main living area is vaulted to the second floor and there is an open staircase that leads to the second floor bedrooms. You can look over the railings into the living area below. The two bedrooms upstairs are private (not lofts) one king and one queen, each with an en suite bath. The basement/lower level is finished and works great for children as it becomes 'their' space with TV, bathroom, table & chairs, DVD, 2 twins and a sofa. The stairway leading to the lower level is enclosed and the entire lower level is carpeted. The rest of the house features wood floors.

*Note: MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY IS A TOTAL OF 8 (adults & children) no exceptions. Not suitable for children under the age of 6 due to loft and open staircase. We do not allow large family reunion groups, weddings, parties, etc.

Share the Expense of Vacation: Bring along another couple or two, or family and share expenses. Less than the cost of hotel rooms. Hotel rooms shared with your children can be stressful, and eating out every meal gets expensive, you'll save by being able to eat in and pack a picnic.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an amazing time here at the Cottage. We did so many fun things like going gem mining, Ziplining in Highlands, horseback riding at the Dillard House and just walking around the town of Highlands. Not to mention the beautiful waterfalls, my personal favorite was Dry Falls.

The house had all amenities needed and provided a nice and cozy place to spend the nights and mornings. We are so grateful for the little treat basket you gave us.

Thanksgiving in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

Thanksgiving 2008 .... The chill was in the air, but when family gets together and snuggle around either the indoor fireplace or the outdoor fireplace, the warmth generated by both the fire and the reminscing of family times past brings a coziness and comfort that warms not only the body, but the soul ..

The incredible attention to comfort details were unsurpassed .. Impeccably clean, with all of our needs given the utmost attention .. State of the art kitchen and bathrooms ... All we needed to bring was our clothes and some food..The scenery breathtaking .. our wish was the owners command ... they bent over backwards to accomodate our family of 10 ( ages 11 months to 60 yrs) during this special time ... Rooms large enough and interesting decor that gave us not only space for the family to congegrate, but also gave us individual space for "quiet time"

A stone's throw from entertainment and restaurants... yet privacy at the utmost.. To hike to the top of the mountain gave us a glimpse of Heaven .. Watching the fog roll up from the valley was breathtaking .. There was something for all ages to experience that created memories that will be close to us for a long, long, time to come.. This place is excellent for a family get together, or a romantic get-a-way for couples of all ages..

The only minor inconvenience was having to take our trash to the local landfill ( but it was on the way to the local Bi-Low grocery store) .. The owners treated us in such a way that we felt they were caring for our comfort as if we were their best friends ..

If you can't tell that we enjoyed ourselves so much that we plan on returning at a later date, you haven't been paying attention to this review !!!

Owner's Response: We are interested in our guests and try to go above and beyond to make sure their visit is memorable, comfortable, and relaxing. We have the best housekeepers and do our utmost to keep everything in working order. And, yes, as Paul states, since this is a mountain community, we cannot have trash cans outside and do ask our guests if they have more than a bag or two to run their garbage down to the nearby trash/recycling facility. This is normally necessary for larger groups who stay more than a few days.

Peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our group enjoyed our annual reunion of college friends at the cottage! The setting is peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed sitting out on the large, shaded porch, listening to the sounds of nature. The home is beautifully appointed and we enjoyed all the conveniences of home. The location is great for local shopping and lovely scenery. We really enjoyed Higlands and touring the nearby falls. We have rented many homes through the years and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

Incredible, relaxing,and GORGEOUS!

  • 5 of 5

Our mini vacation in this incredible home could not have been more beautiful! Before we arrived there was great communication with Pam about the area and things to do which was very helpful. When we arrived Tony was there to greet us and give us a tour of the home and all of it's wonderful amenities. He was awesome and also let us know where all of the best waterfalls were and what else was going on in town .Pictures do not do the house justice at all. This place is so beautiful and Pam made sure that every need is met. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans and even a couple of waffle irons. We cooked or grilled at the house for every meal except one and had everything we needed. The deck is so serene with views of the babbling stream and the woods. This sets the perfect scene for a fire in the outdoor fireplace, a glass of wine and s'mores..we did this every night and it was so relaxing and lovely. The beds were super comfy as well as the furniture and the decor was stunning! For a family of 5 this was the perfect home. Everyone had their own space and none of the kids had to share a room or bathroom. This was a fabulous way to spend time with our adult children and one of the most relaxing vacations ever! Thanks Pam! We loved it!!

The attention to detail was unreal!

  • 5 of 5

The stay at the cottage was by far the best place we've stayed.

After making reservations we received a phone call fairly quickly and the customer service was fantastic. We then received an email with just about everything to do in the area so our homework was already done.

Upon arrival, there was someone to meet us that was a complete gentleman. He brought us for a tour of the house and answered any questions we had.

During the stay we found that they had everything stocked full in the kitchen with really top of the line cookware and cutlery. The attention to detail at every moment was perfect. The welcoming package was nice, the instructions for anything you'd have a question for was great!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Tony loves meeting our guests. And it helps you not have to go looking for things or wondering about operational issues. We travel too and its terrific to get a feel for the area before arrival, so we put together our favorite things to do for our guests and email that ahead of time so you can start planning. So happy to hear you and your family had a wonderful time. Thanks for choosing our home. And, thank you for appreciating all that we do.

Beautiful Home!

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent spring break at The Cottage and we had a terrific stay! The home is gorgeous and Pam thought of everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The home is very private - sitting on the porch while enjoying the fireplace and the sound of the small creek which runs right behind the home, you can only see one other home off through the trees (and this is Pam's other rental home!). Even though it's private, it is not out in the boonies. We enjoyed exploring Franklin which is only minutes away. We also made day trips to the Biltmore Mansion, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Waynesville, Highlands/Cashiers and to Helen, GA - the home was a great location for all of these. We will be back and we'll tell all of our friends to stay at The Cottage when they need some time away!

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to write a review. It is so appreciated, by us as well as future guests. Sounds like you kept busy...there is so much to do so you'll have to come back. The Cottage is such a peaceful spot, and yes, in the winter months you can barely see our other home through the trees on our 2.5 acre property. Once the leaves are on the trees it is a woodland oasis. A Spring Break your children will remember I'm sure!

Awesome is the best way to describe our visit to The Cottage. We were so warmly welcomed by Pam and Tony with true Southern Hospitality. Our grandsons were so excited to find a gift of S’mores and Hot Chocolate. This was so gracious of our host! The cabin was so beautifully decorated and CLEAN. The kitchen was very well appointed and contained everything in an orderly fashion to prepare our Thanksgiving Feast. The dual fireplaces were a great gathering place. The deck was a wonderful place to relax with the sounds of the stream and beautiful smell of the trees. It was a treat to have ample firewood and starters available for our use. We are a family of three generations and the little boys loved having their own ‘apartment’ in the lower level. They spent time exploring the woods and mining in the creek. They were even more excited to discover ‘gold’ in the water.

We spent time at Dry Falls, Clingman’s Dome, picnicked by a river and hunted for rocks, had a nature scavenger hunt at the cabin, went gem mining and cut our first Christmas Trees at the Tom Sawyer Tree Farm. We shopped in Highlands and saw the Christmas Display at Biltmore. The boys were amazed to pick icicles in the Smokey Mt Park. We also spend lots of time on the deck roasting marshmallows and just relaxing by the fire. The information provided by Pam and Tony helped provide an action packed week. It was our first trip to the Franklin area and we hope to return over the summer.

A special thanks to Pam and Tony for ensuring that we had everything necessary for a wonderful trip at the Cottage. As our grandsons said “This was the best vacation ever.”

We agree, the Cottage is an outstanding home, located in such a great central location to enjoy all Western NC activities. The mountainscape is lined with many hiking trails, including the famous Appalachian and Bartram Trails, both accessed 25 minutes drive from The Cottage.

Located in the southwestern corner of North Carolina, Franklin serves as the southern gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains and Great Smokies.
