Our home is heated and cooled to offer the greatest comfort. The four bedrooms--three queens and one twin bed bedroom plus a queen sofa bed in the living room and a roll-away single bed for an extra guest--can accommodate up to 8 adults and 2-3 children. The house is amply spacious and comfortably furnished to instill an at-home feeling for your important stay. The maximum number of guests is not to exceed 11 people, infants are not included in this maximum number.
One of the most wonderful things about our house is the large comfy screened in porch. Sitting on the porch in the mornings having our cups of coffee and enjoying a relaxing drink in the evenings, watching the birds in the front garden, and treasuring the quiet, is bliss and our rental families' favorite past time.
A home-away-from-home. Get re-acquainted with your graduating marine while enjoying Southern hospitality, peace and quiet, plus the nearby activities that await you at this charming, roomy home in the historic town of Port Royal. We're less than a simple 2 minute drive to Parris Island Marine Base entrance. Take time to read the wonderful reviews left by previous Marine families who were thrilled at how close they were to their Marines.
History buffs, nature lovers and those who treasure the peace and quiet of a traditional walking community will enjoy staying with us in Port Royal's friendly, small neighborhood atmosphere. We're only 5 minutes from historic Beaufort with its many shops, galleries and restaurants, 30 minutes from Hunting Island's 5,000 acre State Park with its long white beaches...all open to the public, hiking and bird watching, and also minutes from the many islands that offer endless beautiful scenery, golf course, great galleries, antiquing, restaurants and gorgeous weather.
We would love to share our home with you; a renovated traditional, charming, roomy Port Royal home in the heart of Port Royal. All rooms are cheerfully decorated for comfort and relaxation to help make you feel at home. Come stay with us and enjoy the quiet and charm of Port Royal that we fell in love with. Friendly neighbors and town folk, church bells that ring at noon, birds that sing to bring in the new day, and peace and quiet greets you every day.
Take a short walk or safely bicycle to everything you need to relax and un-wind in a small friendly neighborhood atmosphere. Enjoy the local restaurants, walking trails where you can observe the nesting egrets, herons and other native birds in our town's sanctuary, the water front that offers boat launch ramps, docks, amazing fishing, the community Sands Beach, and a boardwalk with a look-out tower where you can watch the dolphins play in the water and the many varieties of birds fly over head. Enjoy the local activities or just relax on the large screened-in porch which overlooks the beautiful garden.

The proud owners of 1611 Columbia Avenue in Port Royal, S.C.
We are residents of Southern New Jersey, but hope to make Port Royal our permanent home. Until then we have the satisfaction and pleasure of sharing our home with wonderful people who may find our home their home-away-from home. We love Port Royal and its beautiful, peaceful surroundings.
Roberta Hare purchased this house in 2008
Port Royal and the surrounding areas are truly a taste of the South. The pace and friendly people are a respite from our crazy Northeast life style. One day there and the tension melts away. Our home is furnished as a 'lived in' home, not a rental property. We think you'll feel 'at home' while staying with us!
Port Royal village, where the house is located, is isolated from the busier roadways and commercial areas. Once you turn into the Village of Port Royal, off Route 802, there's a distinct atmosphere of calm, quiet and life at a much slower pace. There is no through traffic into the town; and, our home sits on a dead end street so there are very few cars that pass by the house any time of the day or night. Even so, if you want modern life's amenities, they're less than a minute drive away.
Thank you so much for opening your home to us to see my brother graduate from Parris Island. The beds were quite comfortable and the recommendations for places to eat were spot-on.
P.S. We all loved the cats! They were all well behaved and kind, even to the one year old.
We brought our family down to SC for our son's graduation from Parris Island. Other than our GPS not finding the house well the first time and the neighborhood stray cat getting hit by a car in front of the driveway, this was a very tranquil retreat. We arrived on Saturday and were not allowed on base until Wednesday, which gave us a few days for site seeing. We were able to walk down (which I don't recommend on a hot August day) to Sands Beach and walked up the observation tower for great sunsets. We also went to Savannah GA one day, beautiful city. Once the activities on the base began we were so glad that we rented this house for the very fact of how close it was to the base. So easy to get there and back which made our time with our Marine even better. There was plenty of room, clean, close to many restaurants/stores and it was cool! Thank you for sharing your home with us! I recommend it to anyone.

We enjoyed our time here! The house was very cozy! The neighborhood was very quiet and the neighbors next door were very pleasant! Everything that we needed was supplied! Made our stay a little less stress free so we could enjoy going to see our new Marine! So glad it was just right down the road from Parris Island! Mrs. Hare was very helpful in accommodating my family! Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home! I will be referring you to anyone needing to stay for graduation! Thank you from the Clark/Howard family!
We enjoyed our stay, the house and property were very well maintained, loved the screened in porch, nice peaceful quit neighborhood, enjoyed meeting the Nieghbor next door she was very nice and very helpful. So thankful the house was within minutes of Parrise Island, and stores. Thankful that everything we needed was already supplied at the house. I will be referring you to my friends who have recruits graduating soon.
Thank you Roberta and John
From the Stobarts
We had a very nice time for 3 nights stay.... It was a well maintained home and perfect for 4 to 6 people since it has only 1.5 bath. Overall excellent place to stay.
Our group is from New Jersey and is made up of young adult leaders involved in global, education, aid and development, and cultural exchange. We came to South Carolina to connect with and learn more about the rich Gullah/Geechee culture here and to plan our future global service projects. We needed a cozy place to debrief, relax, recover, and refuel after long days out in the context. This home provided exactly what we needed. The owners were very pleasant and easy to deal with, leaving great instructions for everything,
This is a home of comfortable beds. There were eight in our group and everyone was comfortably situated with room to spare. We found the house whistle clean and ready to welcome our group. A kitten was there to great us. Most of our group called him Sergeant Stripes - this is Marine Corps Territory - and others just called him El Gato. The home is set at a comfortable temperature and there are ample ceiling fans to ensure we northerners did not melt.
The home is set in a quiet community filled with beautiful plants, flowers, and trees. It is about a 25 min. drive to Hunting Island's spacious and sparsely crowded beaches. The drive or a walk through the island's lush forest is worth the $5 admission price.
Port Royal is a quaint town and is part of a region filled with history, including some of this nation's most difficult history. It is a great place to study some of the most important issues our nation has and still faces. All this in the context of southern gentleness and a "Yes Sir / No Sir" Marine Corps community.
Yes, an additional bathroom would have been convenient but we managed without much consternation. Basic TV channels only, so bring your computer and your TV to Go apps if you want the latest episode of Game of Thrones or Ninja Warrior. From towels to good clean linens, everything else we needed was there. A quick trip to Bi Lo for food and extra toilet paper and we were set. I've done Home Away before and I must say this house really does fulfill the Home part of the service. Thank you Roberta and John.
This is a very nice, well kept house. Very close to Parris Island which was perfect to get to my son's graduation. I would definitely stay here again.
