About Mark Keegan

The owners, Mark (from Southfield, MI and Mary (from Green Bay, WI) Keegan met at Northern Michigan University and fell in love with the area and have been living in Marquette ever since. They have the best of both worlds, a house on the east side of Marquette and a cottage (or 'camp') as all the 'Uppers' call them. They have renovated both of there properties and love to share there hard work for others to enjoy.

Mark Keegan purchased this cottage in 1993

Why Mark Keegan chose Michigan

Mark is an AVID boater but since boating season is sooooooo short, Mary convinced him that having a house on the beach would provide even more time on the water!! When driving by one rainy Sunday evening (after coming home from Munising to look at buying a 38' house boat), Mark found the 'for sale' sign out in front of what is now their beach house and the rest is history.

What makes this cottage unique

The most amazing benefit to this particular piece of paradise are the Oar boats that skim across the lake and the SUN SETS 'over the city', each one is unique and displays the most vibrant colors. Afterwards, the city lights come up just before the moon rise and if you are lucky enough you may even see Northern Lights late in the summer. Of course the sunset wouldn't be as spectacular if the light were not reflecting in the pristine waters as it laps up the edges of our endless beach...and this can all be seen by just sitting on the couch enjoying a glass of wine and the comfort of an air conditioned home (but I would suggest getting out and walking the miles of beach or like we so often do, just the property line).

The other amazing benefit is that the cottage is so close to Marquette, a beautiful city that must be experienced. There is so much going on all year long.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy our little place on the beach!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for letting us sty here. It's really nice and we loved it so much. We were staying for the Junior Olympic skiing try outs. We did great too!

Beautiful Beach Escape

  • 5 of 5

A group of friends and I had the best time at this lovely beach house. It is right on the water, which we jumped into every day. The trees surrounding the property make it a secluded peaceful escape. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and with four levels of sleeping possibilities, so everyone in the group was able to retreat to their own private area. The fire pit was perfect for evening fires, and the lawn was immaculate and soft for afternoon games such as bocce and badminton. We all had a fantastic time and would absolutely stay here again.

Had the time of our lives!

  • 5 of 5

Last week I, my son and 2 grandsons, age 4 and 7; spent a glorious week at this home. We spent the majority of our days on the private sandy beach. Some days the water was like glass, and other days the water had fun waves. The boys loved playing in the sand, splashing in the water, jumping waves, being pulled around in inner tubes, walking the beach looking for treasures, etc. We made pizza's and s'mores on the fire pit every night. The home was beautiful, comfortable, spacious...with an amazing view of the lake. This was the best vacation, and I will hold the memories in my heart forever!

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at this spacious and comfortable home for 10 days with my two teenage kids during the winter. The views are spectacular and the weather was snowy and cold but nature was a tremendous sight through the glass windows overlooking the lake from the warmth of the house. The house has a great main floor where we watched TV, listened to music (great sound system) and ate meals together. The lower level give the kids privacy with their own living room and separate bedrooms and the upper level was great for me. Can't wait to try the house in the summer - as the place connects with the lake beautifully. Our host Mark was accessible and enormously helpful.
