The home is located on Lake Keowee in South Carolina off Highway 188 on Maughan Trail, approximately six miles from the town of Seneca and only 16 miles from Clemson University.
This exquisite 7,000 square-foot lakefront home was built and decorated by the family matriarch with the goal of having a vacation home large enough for her six children and fourteen grandchildren to enjoy together. The main house has 8 bedrooms and 5 ½ baths, with the owners suite (Master) on the main. There is an additional 1 bed/1bath apartment over the garage. All of the bedrooms are very spacious and beautifully decorated.
The gourmet kitchen was built for a CHEF - features include a nine-foot island with a prep-sink, double oven, a five-burner gas cook top, and a pasta faucet. The dining room has 2 large circular tables. Each table has a lazy Susan and can seat 8 to 10, plus there is counter seating for four. Also, there is a small wet bar with an ice machine close by! The spacious deck has two picnic tables for enjoying lunch outdoors in wet bathing suits. The picnic tables can seat 12 to 16 kids/adults, and are less than 10 feet from the kitchen.
A fixed, covered wooden dock with attached gazebo overlooking the lake and three undeveloped islands, offering peaceful serenity. In addition to a swing, the dock has a water hose and power is available. The 18,000 acres of water and a 300-mile shoreline make Lake Keowee a popular place for boating, fishing, water-skiing, swimming, camping and picnicing. There is a public boat ramp a few minutes away, so you are welcome to bring your boat and leave it at our dock. The house also has two kayaks to explore the pristine lake with all of its natural beauty.
The backyard has a level playing area with room for volleyball, three-legged races and other activities for the children. Large hammock for watching the late night stars. Below the level playing area, the backyard gently slopes down to the lake. The driveway has ample space for ten cars. Downstairs has a children’s playroom filled with toys and a separate family room so the adults can enjoy the peaceful upstairs living room. There is a separate card room for the adults. Wireless internet access is available, so bring your lap top to stay connected.

Welcome! The extended Maloney Family thanks you for considering this home for your next vacation. The six of us are spread out up and down the East Coast and this is the perfect location for our annual Family Reunion.
Michael Maloney purchased this house in 2004
Our mother built this house as her seasonal residence. It is on the SW side of the lake, very close to town and Clemson Universitey. This home is not decorated like your average lake house. Every room has it's own fine touches. It is perfect for multifamily groups, since the kids have plenty of beds in their rooms. It has been a rental since the summer of 2007.
Welcome to the largest and most luxurious rental on Lake Keowee. This house has everything you need for the perfect stay. Make sure you check out our slideshow that had an additional 75 pictures of the home.
The following review was submitted in our guestbook:
This was our 4th year getting together as a group (14 adults & 14 children) and I believe I speak for each of the families by saying that this was the best rental we've had yet. The location is perfect and so is the house. The kids loved riding scooters in the large level driveway as well as playing soccer and duck, duck, goose in the large grassy areas in the back. The beach area was perfect for all ages. Inside the home was also the perfect set up. The kitchen is well equipped and there was plenty of seating. The many t.v. viewing areas were nice for kids and adults with different tastes for television programming, haha! There were plenty of bedrooms/beds including the space over the garage. We never felt cramped or crowded with all the indoor and outdoor spaces. We would love to continue this tradition and hope to be lucky enough to rent your home again next year and beyond.
Thank you
We had a marvelous weekend reunion with space for all the grandchildren and quiet bedrooms for the older couples, too. Has a nice little beach for outdoor play, a walled yard, and brand new 2nd floor deck off the kitchen and great room. Plenty of dining space and chef-equipped kitchen. With 2 ovens, we were able to make a wedding cake, and served home made pizza to all our guests. Great price for early spring, and enough to do indoors to cherish rainy days as much as sunny ones. Beautiful location; though there are neighbors, it felt like we were isolated from the world. Would definetely return and recommend!
What an amazing time we had here. All of the adults (18 ranging in age from 18-53) have made many comments about how awesome this vacation was. From boating to swimming to playing volleyball and the many other activities we did the fun was never ending. The kids (7 ranging in age from 1 month-8) really enjoyed the play room and the secret room as well as the lake and outdoor fun. From a family who enjoys the water and usually spends our family vacation on the ocean somewhere this one ranks at the top for most if not all. We even talked about how we wouldn't mind returning for another one sometime in the future.
This is the perfect spot for a small ( 25-30) family reunion/vacation. The house is spacious enough that you aren't walking over each other and can have your own space when needed. The lake is absolutely by far the best. The water is clear and pristine and while we were there very quiet. Which made it that much more enjoyable. It was like we had it all to ourselves.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a place where 25-30 people could be under one roof yet not under anyones foot.
We were at the Maloney Lake House for a celebration. Michael is prompt and sets a high standard for all of us. The house is in a beautiful location, easy access to the water. Rooms and common spaces are well appointed.
Thank you Michael for offering us such a wonderful experience
Beautiful and roomy home. Beautiful view of the lake. And 32 family members from GA, NC and PA. We all had a wonderful time. Loved the kitchen and the porch. The yard was great for corn hole, playing tag and hiding Easter eggs. Though the water was cold, the little ones and the teenagers didn't mind getting wet. Michael was great to work with also. We definitely will come back for future reunions.
What a wonderful vacation our family experienced at the Maloney Lake House! The house is so comfortable and the rooms are larger than represented by the pictures. The kitchen is well appointed and equipped to handle preparing and serving meals to a large family (although two nights we had cooks nights off and got pizza one night and Mexican food another night)! We had 21 family members, representing three generations. There is a large laundry room off the kitchen with an additional refrigerator which we used for soft drinks, water, beer and wine. The tables in the large dining area easily accommodate everyone for sit down dinners. We also rented the garage apartment which is nicely appointed and larger than pictured. The driveway easily accommodated four SUVs, a pickup truck and 2 mini-vans.
There are grocery stores in Seneca, about a 15 minute drive from the house. Our favorite store was the Ingles, an upscale grocery store with a Starbucks, huge bakery and deli.
The back porch looks out on the beautiful lake, and has big picnic tables for outdoor eating. The screened porch, off the Master suite, quickly became the favorite adult evening gathering spot.
The beach area and quiet cove are beautiful, with clear water. Plenty of seating on the beach, and in the gazebo and deck overlooking the beach. The gazebo offers shade, and the deck perfect for sunning. We had 2 boats and 4 wave runners; there was plenty of room to dock these and still have room for swimming. The little kids really enjoyed the beach and swimming area, and went swimming every day. With three little grandkids, ages 2, 3 and 5, we really appreciated the outdoor shower. We were able to rinse off the little ones after swimming. There is also a convenient stand next to the shower to hang kids life vests, swimsuits and towels. After rinsing the kids, we would wrap them in towels and enter the house through the cabana bath, where they could dress before going off to other areas of the house. So well planned for families with little kids!!
We used the full service Keowee Marina (about a 10 minute boat ride) for the boats and wave runners. Everyone there is so friendly and attentive.
MIchael Maloney is also great to talk with! We had to query him several times with various questions in the months before we arrived, and he always answered promptly!
Our whole family loved the beautiful Maloney Family Lake house!
Change doesn’t come easily for most of my family. So when I recommended moving our multi-generational family vacation to the Maloney House, I knew there was a high probability I would be wearing goat horns before the vacation was over. I knew getting our big group all together on the same property (instead of split up in three different houses as we have done in recent vacations) would not only enhance our experience, but also push certain boundaries.
Meeting the diverse vacation expectations of 20-26 people from ages 2 to 86 means the bar is set pretty high. Throw in a few people who will complain about anything from a dull kitchen knife to a faulty gas grill (operator error, of course) and you can imagine the tension I felt knowing it would be all my fault if the new accommodations were less than spectacular.
Maloney House met and exceeded my expectations! The house and rooms were even more spacious than they appeared in the photos, giving us plenty of space to spread out and even get a little privacy. Who knew what a joy a separate built-in ice maker could be? Most rental lake homes have little to offer those without their own power toys. The paddleboards and kayaks were a definite plus!
Those seeking to be entertained enjoyed: fishing at dawn, watching the sunrise, soccer, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, paddle boarding, basketball, corn hole, disc golf, biking (around the neighborhood, on the Swamp Rabbit, and mountain biking at Fant’s Grove), playing in streams, feeding the resident Mallard family, visiting waterfalls, and white water rafting the Chattooga. A special highlight of our vacation was going on a pontoon boat ride at Lake Jocassee to see the waterfalls with my mom and dad. With Seneca’s proximity to Clemson, Greenville and all of the outdoor activities on the Scenic Highway 11 corridor, our adventure-seekers still have plenty of new places to explore.
Needless to say, we have already booked for next year. I’ll bring my own chef knife ;))
Funny, no one seems to remember that it was my idea to change venues in the first place. And they probably won't ask me to write the review again either :) Oh well…
